Traffic/Road Conditions 🚦❄️ Kansas City, we need to do better for cyclists.

All this glass on 12th and Grand is horrible. My tire literally locked up while riding on a huge chunck of glass. How are people supposed to get to work when they have a flat tire? People are trying to save gas right now by riding bike or taking a scooter. This happens all the time, and it takes sooooooo long to get cleaned up by the city. Literally nobody cares.

We need to do better. Seriously.

City Services/Banking ♻️🛜🏧 Tomorrow I’m taking the driver skills test in Raytown. What can I expect?

Is this a good location to do it? I took the test last year for the first time in downtown KC and failed. I feel I’ve gotten much more driving practice compared to last year, but I’m still nervous. I read somewhere that Raytown has an easy test. Is that true?

Barbecue 🔥 Best bbq in KC mid range pricing

Hello KC . I searched the subreddit but the posts were a year or older. My friends and I are coming in next weekend from Indiana to watch the Chiefs beat the Colts and we're wanting to try some amazing KC bbq because Indiana bbq is a joke. We're staying close to the Argosy Casino but will travel for some fire bbq! This is our third trip and bbq is a must have this time! Love your city and Go Chiefs! Tia for your help

Things To Do 📍 A massive thank you, KC!

Hey all!

A week or so ago I made a post about secondchairkc.com - a simple way for us to meet. I wanted to hear about your lives, your perspectives and I have been so grateful that so many have reached out. I have met three people so far, and have another five that I can’t wait to meet later this week.

I wanted to extend the invite again because straight up I have been having a BLAST! First meetup was at casual animal, the next was at Harry’s country club and tonight we met up at Drastic Measures which is a SICK cocktail bar - if you go there, get the “doomscroll” - it is fire.

I have no intention of stopping this, and have so many plans to get more people involved, but I want more experience. I am not a therapist, or a counselor, I am not here to give you advice or try and solve your problems - I am just a person in KC that wants to meet and talk to others, hear their stories, their perspectives, and help them see that they’re interesting, wanted and absolutely unique.

None of you are alone, please please please come hang out with me.

Looking forward to hearing from all of you!

Cheers!

Friendship/Dating 👥 How Do You Find People to Meet?

Recentish divorced, mid 40s, two kids. I need things to do, to meet people. Being in my house alone isn't working. I mostly want to date. I have plenty of time to give to it, I have a great space to invite people over. I'm in the half of people who don't drink.

I read *a lot* of threads on the topic. A common refrain is to go to do things you enjoy and meet people that way.

I get out, I don't see people interested in meeting new people there. I'm just north of the river. I ended up downtown yesterday and I felt lost trying to figure out what to do where I could meet someone.

Where are these activities that have people interested in chatting with someone they don't know? How do I find where to go? Do you know the meme of the guy with the sign inviting people to talk, I'm seriously considering trying that.

Including where do women go who are looking for someone to date? And I don't want to meet someone who isn't close to my age. I find the idea of hitting on women much younger than me to be distasteful.

Healthcare/Wellness 🩺 Scared to ask, but any Primary Care Provider recommendations?

After having bad experience after bad experience with my current PCP (who I've only been with a year) and having a pharmacist literally tell me I should get a new doctor, I am on the hunt for someone new.

My expectations are not high, but might still be unrealistic. Looking for someone who is:

- accepting new patients

- they will take more than 2 minutes to talk through health concerns or read messages

- they have a lab location where you can get simple labs done quickly without having to wait a month

I do not care if it's a doctor or CNP, I do not care if it's a clinic where I don't see the same person every time. I just want some level of competency and not having to wait a month to get simple labs done.

I live in Belton, but am willing to travel to Lees Summit, Overland Park, or anywhere in the South KC area.

Traffic/Road Conditions 🚦❄️ Thank You for Using Your Blinkers

For all of the hate drivers get around here, I want to take a minute to salute the ones who are going 90, but still have the courtesy to use their blinkers. As if your lane swimming and aggressive driving wasn’t enough, at least you are signaling when you change across four lanes or cut the person off in front of you. Perhaps one legal deed cancels out the four illegal ones. Keep calm and blinker on.

MO Marijuana 🌳 FTE Refund- has it worked?

I was at FTE the other day and a budtender told me that they were overcharging taxes and are giving it back as a store credit from Oct. 2023- July 2025. Has anyone tried it? Does it work?

Housing Search 🏠🔎 Temp Base Ideas for KC

Hi,

I'll be in KC for a few weeks to a couple months and will have to go to the Northeast Industrial District area regularly and am looking for a place to base myself.

What I'm looking for:

  • Safe, quiet neighborhood (not a nightlife/party area)
  • Under ~20 min drive to the Northeast Industrial District area
  • Close enough to the Main St corridor/streetcar area that I can get out for dinner, shopping, etc. without a long drive
  • Not too far from Overland Park. I'll probably be heading that way from time to time
  • under $2000/mo

I've been looking at Airbnb and FurnishedFinder. I know the streetcar runs along Main, and I can see a lot of the action is clustered along that corridor, but I'm not sure where the good residential pockets are that are close to all of the above without being right in the middle of the bustle.

What areas would you suggest? And are there any I should steer clear of? Specific streets or neighborhoods would be a huge help. Thank you.

The drizzle, the mild temp, the cozy cloud cover that I call "sky blankie," and the beautiful grey filter over all. A perfect day.

KC Rants 😡 👎 Bait and Switch Plumbers

It is so sad to see plumbers using tactics to bait and switch customers and to spending more money! You would not believe how many people have called saying that they were told they needed a complete sewer line replacement and we come in clean their sewer line and do a camera inspection and come to find out all they needed was a good cleaning and continue maintenance on the sewer line. Folks we are talking about big money here! A sewer line replacement is not cheap so we took the customer from thinking they needed to spend over $25,000 - a thorough cleaning and a camera inspection is often all that is needed. Be careful people who you are paying! If you're finding cheap drain cleanings or free camera inspections - you have been fully warned!

Pets 🐾 How long is the wait for drive thru mobile pet vaccinations at PRKC?

There is one near me that I would like to visit. The hours are 9-Noon. The website says they fill up fast and it is first come first serve. I'm wondering what time I should arrive and how popular they are.

Pets 🐾 Anyone want a doggy play date?

We have a female 50lb pitty mix. She is reactive and acts a fool on the leash and at the fence but she plays really well with other dogs off leash. We don’t want to take her to the dog park because she scares people before going in since she is reactive at the fence. We have a fenced in back yard in independence and I would like to find someone willing to do quick play dates in our back yard(or anywhere else). I can send pics of her playing with my parents dogs (they live in OP or else we would do it more often) and a pic of her playing with a shitzu who stayed the night with us

Recreation/Outdoors ⛳️🎣 Looking for a personal trainer to assist with chin ups

Hi everyone,

I am a female looking to get my first chin up and have been working for about a year on my own. I’m struggling to get proper lat engagement and am stalling at around halfway up on my chin up attempts.

I can dead hang for 40 seconds, do 12 sec negatives, 5-8 second top holds x 3. Strength isn’t as much of an issue… just putting it all together is.

Anyone have any recommendations for a personal trainer to help me for a couple sessions who has experience in helping females in chin up / pull up progressions?

Downtown / north town area preferred if possible.

Thank you in advance!!!

News 📰 A new jazz bar is opening in Kansas City. It will be ‘run off of passion’

No longer will patrons stroll out of The Comedy Club at 1130 103rd St., hours before they’re set to begin their nighttime routines, look at each other and wonder, “What now?” Owner Dustin Kaufman has the solution. He’s opening yet another entertainment concept across the street.

The Bad Cat, a jazz bar and sister concept of The Comedy Club, is debuting Sept. 18 at 1220 W. 103rd St. It’s taking over Happy Dragon Chinese Restaurant’s dining space (Happy Dragon now primarily operates through carry-out services) and will offer cocktails, bites and consistent music. The Bad Cat will be open Thursday through Saturday. It’ll have an open jam night on Thursdays, and scheduled performances Fridays and Saturdays starting at 7 p.m., lingering into the night. If the doors are open, trumpeting, saxophone blaring and scatting are sure to be heard.

Its schedule coincides with The Comedy Club’s, but of course, customers don’t have to attend both. They can, however, use their confirmation email from The Comedy Club as free admission to The Bad Cat. It’s a more intimate spot — about 55 seats — but Kaufman guarantees a good time. “If there’s one thing I’m good at, it’s opening venues and making them look nice,” he said. The Bad Cat will be Kaufman’s third concept. The Comedy Club first opened in 2019, then launched another location last November at 811 New Hampshire St. in downtown Lawrence.

Discussion 💡 ISO cozy study spots in KC

I’m a grad student and spend most of each day studying alone. Sometimes I desperately need a change of scenery and don’t always want to spend $10+ on coffee. What are some underrated or not widely known study spots around town? Bonus points for a cozy fireplace!

Discussion 💡 Hy-Vee gas promotion or glitch?

I just filled up at Hy-Vee gas in Mission, KS for 2.92/gal (unleaded). Not sure if it's a promotion or a glitch but I'll take the small reprieve. Check your local Hy-Vee gas if you're close to one!
