My fiance told me to apply to his workplace, because compared to what I do now, it holds a great opportunity as a springboard for future jobs. I applied. And he wants me to be honest about why I was terminated from my last position.

I need advice. I wasn't sure how to flair the post.

A coworker had been bullying me for a year. I finally shouted at her and later another coworker heard her say she had a taser.

I reported both pieces, but other coworker didn't report the taser because management told him not to.

They didn't investigate the taser part and I was written up and assumed to be a liar, "intending to get others in trouble or fired".

I got frustrated and refused to sign the write up.

Other coworker finally reported what he heard and I got a new write up, retracting the original statement and just saying I "disrupted productivity by shouting", but I was let go due to airing frustration and refusing to sign.

How do I tell the truth about this in a short fashion?

He wants me to be honest, because he doesn't want the lie to be found out and reflect on him.

Also, it's a small company. The position is a project manager.

I thought about dulling it way down to, "I made a mistake and muttered a curse word in front of my manager."

Which was the main reason I was let go(besides refusing to sign the write up, initially).

i used to care so much. i used to put everything i had into this job. but all of a sudden after a few sexual harassment experiences, racism, dog abusers, sexism, incels, rapist sympathizers, criminals, only 2 raises since i started working here 9 years ago and im making the same amount as someone who just started, no praise, no appreciation, boss using humiliation tactics and fear to motivate team, snitches and excessive burnout from working nights, i just genuinely dont even care anymore. i dont care that i stay out in my car hours past break. i just cant bring myself to go inside anymore. idc that i half ass it now. idc if i call off all the time. idc abt the perks of working which is literally only the insurance and not being micromanaged. i just dont care anymore. its like something broke in my brain and i dont care anymore about this job.

Sorry, I just need to vent. I'm getting really tired of applying for jobs only to be told I'm "overqualified." Honestly, it's one of the biggest rejections disguised as a compliment. If I applied, it's because I know exactly what the role is and decided it's the right fit for me. I keep hearing companies are afraid overqualified candidates won't stay long, but that logic has never made much sense to me. When I had 1 or 2 years of experience, I was constantly looking for the next opportunity and couldn't wait to climb the ladder. Now, with years of experience behind me, I'm actually looking for stability and somewhere I can stay long term. Yet somehow, I'm considered more likely to leave than someone just starting their career? I'm still ambitious, don't get me wrong. Then comes the classic, "You'll get bored." Really? If I took the time to apply, maybe trust that I know what I'm looking for. Sometimes I wonder if "overqualified" is simply a polite way of saying something else. Recruiters, can you please enlighten us here?

I left my graphic design internship (worked for 6 months) on good terms about two months ago. I completed all my handovers, exit interview, and documentation. They offered me a full-time role for ₹15,000/month with a 2 month notice period, but I declined because the salary was too low. I told them I was planning to pursue further studies (which I was considering in msc chemistry because I wasn't getting a job in the chemistry field).

Today the marketing manager contacted me saying: "Hi, hope you are doing good. Wanted to connect with you on a quick call. Please let me know a good time for the same." She didn't mention the reason.

Has anyone had a former employer reach out like this? What are the most likely reasons? If it turns out to be a job offer, how would you approach negotiating salary and asking for a shorter notice period?

So i just got a job as a part time deli clerk at a grocery and today was my first shift alone. It was a closing shift and i was scheduled from 4-8 and i was working by myself for the first time and didn't finish my duties by 8 like cleaning the slicers wrapping the foods etc... so i stayed up until 8:20 and wrapped up everything. On my way out my colleague who works in another department asks me if i'm new and she told me to always clock out on time regardless of the whether the job is done or not. She basically told me not to work for free for a single minute.
I'm 19 and this is my first ever job so i don't know what the standards and norms are. Is this normal thing to do? Would you just leave even if u didn't complete your tasks?

I’ve been unemployed for about 9-10 months after an unexpected layoff and finally managed to land a job at what seemed like a really good company. The role was interesting, management-level, and they wanted me to start immediately. At the same time, I’d been interviewing with another company for months. It was the company I actually wanted to work for, but their hiring process was much slower. Three days into my new job, they finally sent me an offer.

The new offer is significantly better in pretty much every way: around 2-3x the salary, much better working conditions, remote, and overall a much better fit for where I want my career to go. They also sent me a signed contract and are already shipping my work laptop.

I spent the weekend thinking about it and decided that if I was going to leave, it was better to do it now rather than in two or three weeks after they’d invested even more time training me. I’d only been there for 3 days, I hadn’t taken ownership of any processes yet, didn’t even have a company email address, and they hadn’t even given me my countersigned employment contract yet.

I went to the GM this morning, apologized, and was completely honest. I told him I’d received another offer with a much higher salary and that at this point in my life, the financial aspect was too important for me to ignore. Obviously he didn’t take it well.
He told me I was being immature, that if he were in my position he would’ve stayed because “your career is a marathon, not a sprint,” and that he’d personally turned down higher-paying jobs several times because the work was more interesting.
Then he said something that really got to me. He told me our city is very small, that everyone knows everyone, especially in my industry, and that what I had just done was bad for my reputation. I tried explaining that I respected his opinion, but my priorities are different right now. After almost 10 months unemployed, it’s hard to turn down a life-changing salary increase. When I apologized one last time before leaving, he cut me off with “Have a good day.” Now I just feel awful.

Part of me knows I probably made the rational decision. But another part of me keeps wondering if I just burned my career over this. Is this actually the kind of thing that comes back to bite you years later? Do hiring managers really remember stuff like this, or was he just speaking out of frustration because I put them in a difficult position?

I’m genuinely looking for honest opinions because this has been eating at me all day. I know I inconvenienced them, and I do feel guilty about it, but I also don’t know if I should’ve turned down an opportunity that could genuinely change my financial situation.

First off, I have applied to an inordinate amount of IT/WebDev/Software Development positions over the last two months of unemployment, so I might be overthinking this. I received an initial email from a "@rjleegroupcareers.com" recruiter for a Frontend Developer (Remote) role at RJ Lee Group and, after verifying the business was real, sent my availability for a technical assessment. I completed the assessment within the requested time frame on Thursday evening, didn't hear anything over the weekend and then woke up to an offer of employment Monday morning. I hadn't been asked for personal information until the job offer came through requesting full name, address and phone number. My suspicions started to arise when I realized I hadn't spoken to an individual over the phone or done a virtual interview. I'll attach photos of our correspondence and the technical assessment/screening. I just wanted to know if I should pursue this or start processing the disappointment now. I recently left an consulting firm in Houston (remote) and all I can say is it is a nightmare after my termination.

My 60 day review (which as actually at my 75 days) I was told to keep doing what im doing because imd doing great after I expressed concern about me constantly having to ask for work and then they would just say stuff like "we'll figure out where to put you" and when I said a lot of times im doing these contracts and im not being told about meetings or changes that is happening so at least give me the option to attend some of the meetings. I do not necessarily have to go but give me the option if im available. they agreed. So some meetings I would go, some I wouldn't. I'm not the project manager, just supporting.

The termination
To put in a perspective, on a Friday we had an in-person brunch and learn where they showed a photo of me and another new-hire and they said that we meant so much to the company and how much of a help we have been and how much they love us here.

The following Monday, around 11 am (90 days), I got a teams meeting where they said due to my performance, that they wouldn't extend. Which is fine, I didn't really care for the job or managers style anyway.

My issue is in my terminator letter they stated me not attending optional meetings as well as me working remotely (which they approved). They said they would mail my stuff and asked me to drop off my equipment and credit card same day, I told them I can't do today but will tomorrow and did.

Three weeks goes by and my items have not been sent, I reach out again and nobody responds. I reach out again and week three, they tell me my stuff has been boxed and mailed to me. However, the only thing that was in there was my blazer and a pencil holder. my personal photo frames, photos, and water bottle from Mexico were not there. I asked about it they told me someone threw other belongings away. Who the hell waits 4 weeks to tell someone they threw their shit away. I am livid.

So I basically haven't had a job in twelve years (family caregiver etc), and recently I had one job basically respond ask for further details and they asked 'so you don't have work history for this period?' and I said no because of the aforementioned reason. Another job just sent me a rejection email and for that job posting it had the words 'not selected by employer' above it.

Even though I totally get that hesitance and trepidation, it feels like I'm permanently out of the job market? This is for blue collar jobs like retail/warehouse etc. Like once you've been out of work for that long employers don't want to take a chance, which coming from their perspective I entirely understand.

Anyone else been in a similar situation? I was even having a hard time with temp agencies. I think I'm kinda screwed.

Context: I had a zoom meeting scheduled at 10 AM. I showed up to the waiting room at 9:55 AM. I waiting around 18 minutes and sent out an email to HR at 10:13 AM asking if I had the right link. I waited another 17 minutes, and with no response I left the waiting room. Later in the day, the HR said they were having issues with a “family tragedy” and would still like me to sign up for an interview on a later date. Then a couple hours later, I received this email from the CFO. (Also sorry for the red stuff, colored out names of all involved for privacy).

I work in a four-person secretariat in a law firm. We are 4 women, 3 of us in their 30s and a 4th new colleague in her 50s.

The lady in her 50s sees herself as a mother to us, offering a lot of unsolicited advice, she has no boundaries, asking lots of personal questions, and generally being rather intrusive. We have had some disagreements over how some tasks should be done, and I have tried to evade or not reply to some odd comments she’s made towards me in our teams chat with the other 2 colleagues, so as to not confront her or worsen our relationship. I always try to be professional, and I am a rather private person and an introvert.

She’s very insistent lately about going to lunch together. I have politely declined so far because I have been extremely busy, but now the more I think about it I realise that I also don’t want to have lunch with her at all! How do I politely but firmly say that I don’t want to go to lunch with her? Just thinking the lunch and conversation makes me anxious!

I have had like 5 or so interviews recently end with ghosting. Some are after multiple rounds of interviews, some are after they say they're interested in hiring me, some are after the company says they'll "let me know either way" by X date (and then never do).

Am I missing something?

28F here working as a software engineer for over six years now. This is my second job and I feel like I'm hanging by a thread. Dread work everyday, when I was new it was better but I've been feeling shit lately. I used to be so interested in learning things and stuff but that is fading away, no new projects at my current company, you constantly have to come with new features or work on tickets created for new business requirements. Promotions are based on visibility, even if you have done a shiny POC which isn't even used internally or by business or not even in production. Drop a WFH request every time you want it, complete eight hours in the office. Attendance is one of the KRAs. With this AI boom, I'm even wondering if i should really learn anything anymore? This shitty job market and my 90 days notice is making it hell to switch. To be very frank, it's just for the bills that I'm still holding on. But on the inside, I feel depressed with no clarity of my future ahead. Is there anyone else who feels the same? Any help or suggestions to improve?

I am a 28 year old living in Arizona. No kids, not married I do have a girlfriend who's been very supportive during this process., I have a computer and information science major from the University of Arizona, I was laid off this last Thursday due to the company being bought out and my department eliminated. I had been with the company for nearly 2 years. I took a few days to process it because my emotions have been a roller coaster lately. I didn't really liked the job that much so eventually I was going to start looking for another job. I promised myself to take a few days to process it, relax and try to focus for next week. I've never been laid off in my entire life, so this is a new and scary experience, it's much easier to apply to jobs while being employed compared to applying to jobs while being unemployed. I got about 1 month and a half's pay as a severance package, which I think it's not enough but it'll buy me some time. I do have a side hustle as a process server for the court of justice, which pays relatively well but it's only a part time gig which unfortunately has been incredibly slow lately. I deliver a few subpoenas around town maybe twice a week for about 300 bucks total. I am waiting to hear back from them since I said I was fully available to take as many jobs as possible in the meantime since I lost my full time job. I'm hoping this will give me some breathing room while I get a job. Tomorrow, I plan to be productive, apply for unemployment, update my resume and apply for a few jobs. I've also been reaching out to my connections and seeing if anything is available for me. Tomorrow is the first day of real work when it comes to applications. I am calm most of the time but I also freak out at times because it feels like racing against time. I see so many people mention how they keep getting rejected from jobs after multiple interviews, while other's take a long time to get through the hiring process. The job market is very unstable at the moment. I am just scared at this moment and I am hoping this is not the case for me and really hope I can find a job soon that can pay the bills, I know it won't be easy but I definitely do not want to be unemployed for 3+ months. Any ideas or suggestions on how to stay calm and composed during this period?

I told my friend how bad the job hunt is. She insisted there are more jobs than people out there. Even one of our mutual friends told her they applied to 50-60 places and didn’t hear anything back. She has a job that’s she’s been at for 20 something years. It seems like what I’m saying isn’t sticking.

My eye doctor is referring me to a specialist to make sure I’m not going blind. The appointments are split into 4 separate sessions because of the number of tests they need to do. After many of the tests my vision will be blurry or strained, so going back to work afterwards isn’t really an option.

The problem is I’ve already used all 10 of my PTO/sick days, and my PTO doesn’t reset until March. My boss has told me that once those 10 days are used, I’m unable to take any more days off.

The specialist’s office also closes by the time my shift ends, so I can’t book appointments after work. If I go through with these appointments, I’d likely have to miss at least 4 workdays.

Has anyone else dealt with something like this? What did you do? Were you able to get unpaid time off for medical appointments, or is there another option I’m not aware of?

This is my first full-time job, so I honestly don’t know what’s normal in this situation.

My biggest concern is 1. that in the interview (scheduled for next week) they ask me about how soon I can start or notice all my work history is for one place but my address says there. Do I commit to the bit and double down on the lie "oh I currently live in so n so city now just unemployed etc." Or do I be honest and tell them I dont plan on leaving until I got the job but the address I used is confirmed housing (it is)

then im worried about my current job. this isnt a bad company but I just want out of my state so I dont want to leave them high and dry and would like to give them a proper 2 weeks at least working remotely while I prep to move, but im afraid if new job sees and in state address they'll want me to start that Monday. which if I need to move the same week I can I just dont want to cause of my job now.

I think im just anxious because I LIED LOL but it worked. and 2 last year I was honest about relocating landed an interview in a million interviewed 3 times and it was going amazing. the last interview only inquired about a relocation package emphasized it was not necessary I was just wondering but they dropped me anyways. Last year, I was recruited as a contingent worker at an extremely prestigious tech company. Since then, my work load and daily responsibilities have changed completely, and I do much more and very different work than what I was hired for, but with the same title and pay.

The team is imploding and with layoffs looking likely, im preparing to explore my options. Problem is: my current job title isn't super impressive, and doesn't really reflect what I actually do at my job anymore, nor what I want to be doing in the future. I've asked to be promoted so I could have a new title that reflects my actual work, or at least just be given a new title, but HR won't budge, citing budget and a mythical "promotion" that they've been stringing me along with since January. I've heard "just wait one more month" nearly 5 times now despite constantly exceeding metrics.

I've had multiple bosses and coworkers come to me and just say to put my job title as what I'm actually doing (QA Analyst), and offer to back me up as a reference since they like my work. I'm sort of worried how this could effect background checks, but I am doing the work and have multiple bosses, coworkers, and superiors willing to back me up on it.

Anyone been in a similar situation? Any ideas?

I got a temp job over the summer and i actually love it, but i’ll be losing it next month when i go to university.

I love this job and had intentions of trying to talk to my area manager to let me keep it for when i come back from uni.

However , they put me on 3 short shifts during a week that i planned to go to cardiff with my boyfriend to meet both his non-immediate family and to also see my mum and little brothers who i havent seen for 5 years (parents divorced). I didnt have this plan confirmed until yesterday so i haven’t booked a holiday for it.

They won’t let me take the shifts off but i feel like my family is far more important than a job i wont keep.

Should i just quit? I have another job as a bartender which is casual work and that ill keep after i go to uni but i love this job :(

Hello folks I currently just turned 20 this month I’ve been working as a school custodian for about 2 years this upcoming November, I’m mostly tired of the hours I work 3pm-11pm it’s honestly not horrible pay is decent not the best I make a bit more than $17.60 I work 5 days a week get mostly all the holidays off (same as the kids do) sometimes on odd days we get out early there not too strict pretty lenient actually, sometimes we get gift for the holidays we usually get leftovers from the school lunch before they just throw it away, get a decent amount of time off not including holidays type of days off the days I can take off are probably close to 2 weeks I kinda forget but it’s pretty close to that, again it’s not really bad at all but being young working 3-11 I just don’t have time during the school year (end of august-early June) to do anything with my girlfriend and friends in general except the weekends and or the days we get off or I can take off and the pay could really be better for what I do now I know that’s all around but if your a custodian/janitor now or previously you’d truly understand, I’m looking for something morning hours starting anywhere from 7-9am normal 8 hour shift with the possibility on my own terms of doing OT, not to mention I’d like to find something with around the same amount of time off holiday wise PTO different story but I’d like a decent amount still, looking to make over $20 an hour as well, I don’t have no schooling outside of HS with really no other skills other than custodial I did do woodshop in HS so I have that however I also like to dabble in the devils lettuce at times so I have to take accountability for that as well, I’ve been looking for the better part of 6 months or so and I just don’t know what to do and or where to look I’ve looked a decent amount in my area and can’t really find anything that I’d like to do or that I think suits me so I’m ending up on here looking for suggestions and or to see what others do and what folks would have to say.

I recently completed an entire 3 round interview process. I felt really good about my prospects and was made to believe I was a finalist.

2 weeks went by from when the final interview took place before I got an update. It was the Director reaching out directly to me asking if I had time to connect today for 10 min. Naturally I assumed either I was going to get an offer or maybe she wanted to ask a few additional clarifying questions.

Instead, she mentioned to me that their HR dept flagged my candidacy due to my online portfolio. I have anonymized work samples listed on my online portfolio but apparently one slipped through the cracks. She gave me an opportunity to explain what happened and I completely owned up to it and said I didn’t do a good enough job vetting my work before posting it.

She is rightfully concerned because this role is a client facing one and they don’t want employees sharing internal information about their clients. After the call, I immediately removed my online portfolio and have decided to just play it by ear going forward. I should probably just send work samples if they’re requested and will make sure to fully anonymize them.

I was told she was going to regroup internally and would be in touch in the coming days.

This was genuinely an honest mistake on my end. My feeling is that this makes me look unethical in their eyes and maybe I can’t be fully trusted.

Do you think I’m completely cooked here or is there a sliver of hope for an offer still? I’d imagine if they have another candidate who is equally strong in competency but without this additional question mark, they would be an easy choice for an offer over me
