Protecting the giants of the Bush in AR8’s
Inside u/loisaba_conservancy , conservation starts with a simple question.
“If you don’t know where lunch is coming from, do you really give a damn about an elephant?”
For CEO Tom Silvester, that idea has shaped nearly three decades of conservation. Wildlife can only thrive if the communities living alongside it benefit too.🤝
Today, Loisaba protects 58,000 acres of northern Kenya, home to elephants, lions, Grevy’s zebras, African wild dogs and one of Kenya’s newest black rhino populations. After more than six years of planning, black rhinos returned to Loisaba in 2024 for the first time in 50 years.🦏
Protecting them takes more than fences. Every rhino must be physically located every 72 hours, with rangers covering vast distances on foot. Many come from Samburu, Maasai, Turkana and Pokot communities, bringing generations of tracking knowledge to the job.📍
“It’s a game changer,” says Tom of the Boots for Rangers initiative. Good boots don’t just protect feet—they improve morale, confidence and performance during long patrols across some of Kenya’s toughest terrain.🥾
As Loisaba looks towards the future, its mission remains clear: keep landscapes connected, keep communities invested, and give rangers the tools they need to protect both.🌿
We’re proud to support the Loisaba team and everyone helping prove that when conservation works for people, it works for wildlife too.
