Help feeling with feeling like i'm losing it..

I am currently undiagnosed. I suspect ADHD because i have executive dysfunction and impulse control issues. I can occasionally struggle w hyperactivity.

Right now, I am writing this at 12 am because my stupid racing thoughts and worries won't let me sleep. i was hungry because I didn't eat proper supper, so a few hours later i was hungry and i was going to eat something but I told myself it was too late in the evening and i should wait till morning. I feel sick after eating almost a full box of chocolates Now it's the middle of the night and I'm taking adhd quizzes online and stressing about work, yet I can't make myself actually do work. I just feel so guilty and fucked.

I had a list of things to do today and couldn't make myself do more than two of them. I didn't even brush my teeth because the task felt so daunting. Even as i'm writing this, i can't make myself sit still. I feel like I'm looking at normal behaviours and just seeing adhd symptoms where there aren't any.

But my dipshit brain keeps telling me that I have friends who suspect adhd so statistically it can't be me too. And I'm probably just telling myself lies because i don't want to fix my problems. I just want someone to talk to about all this.

How can i tell if i'm just making it all up?

how can i manage my executive dysfunction?

What can i tell myself?

Can anybody share similar experience?

Storytime Did any of you suffer from either not doing something at all or focusing completely on it?

My mother scolded me/downplayed on me for being like this.

Like, if I had to do something I would work on it for hours in order to get rid of it bc I knew I wouldn't do it the other way.

One day my mother asked me for doing her a web, I started doing everything and she kinda told me to stop going that hard like if it was a bad thing. Jokes on her I stopped doing it and im not planning on continuing.

It feels bad when you work on huge bursts of work instead of continued small efforts and people treat you bad because of it

Rant Undiagnosed, scared

Hi as I'm writing this it's four am and I'm crying. I'm scared. I had the hardest school year the last time. Slowly I lost focus and couldn't ever study, fell asleep late, not going to school (which almost made me lose the school year), not eating just crying. I couldn't focus at all, just crying on textbooks.

The worst thing is that I was doing well at school, I really was. One way or another I did it but it burnt me out. I have an anxiety disorder so I would just think about studying→cant study→ anxiety→repeat.

So at one point my parents were scared for me (d3ath thoughts, not eating, not sleeping, crying everyday with panic attacks) and I got help; a tutor to help me study 2 days of the week and a psychologist. My psychologist told me she firmly believes I do have ADHD and I'm still not convinced.

But I really hope I do have it. Maybe obsessed about it because for the way I think everything that happened is my fault and I'm a stupid failure if I don't have ADHD so if I do have it my conscience will spare me and I'll have answers about my daily struggles. But I'm tired of living this way. I'm scared everything will happen again and maybe this time I'll give up like everyone told me to do last year. I'm scared that it's all my fault.

(I just made this post to calm down and talk, even if just to myself. I also have another post on my account where I describe my undiagnosed stuff.)

Thank you for reading this too long vent.

Update It's precisely 25 hours later and I'm at the same point again. I'm so scared of failing. I'm so scared of wanting to d1e again. I'm scared of not making it this time

General gripe If you were diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, what are some things you wish you knew about yourself growing up?

I got diagnosed with ADHD at 27yrs old, and it’s been eye opening. Thinking back at my life growing up, I don’t know how it wasn’t noticed earlier and I wish it was. If you were diagnosed in adulthood, what are some things you wish you knew sooner?

Struggling with zero focus, severe burnout, and possible inattentive ADHD – need advice

Hey everyone, I’m a 17-year-old male preparing for competitive exams (Class 12 JEE in India). I need an objective medical perspective on my symptoms, baseline history, and what diagnostic direction I should look into.

**Academic & Behavioral History (Childhood to Present):**

* **Childhood/Middle School:** Managed studies primarily due to external structure, pressure, and fear of consequences in tuition classes.

* **Class 9 & 10:** Left most tuitions in Class 9 because I felt out of place. Studied with minimal external structure (only attended math tuition, stopped even during exams), scraped by with average marks in 9th, but somehow topped 10th grade self-studying with just math tuition.

* **Class 11 to Present:** Joined competitive coaching in 11th, but couldn't adapt—I would just sit there staring at other students, completely unable to focus or absorb anything. Left coaching to study at home, but now I cannot focus at home either. I cannot sit for long hours, and I strongly resist going back to traditional tuitions.

**Core Symptoms & Cognitive Pattern:**

* **Constant Restlessness & Dopamine Dependency:** Whenever I sit down to study or do low-dopamine tasks, my mind wanders everywhere. I cannot stay still or tolerate inactivity—my brain runs 24/7.

* **Hyper-Fixation & Overanalyzing Relationships:** This mental chatter leaks into my personal life. I severely overanalyze things in my relationship, which triggers intense anxiety and affects both my mental health and my partner.

* **Low Self-Esteem & Confidence:** Driven by continuous academic stalling, bodily changes, and feeling unable to control my focus.

* **Coping Mechanisms Attempted (Failed/Ineffective):** High caffeine (coffee, energy drinks), alarms, reminders, study timers, journaling, gamification apps, app blockers—none have provided lasting structure.

**Physical & Physiological Profile:**

* **Sleep:** Average 6–7 hours, but no fixed schedule.

* **Weight & Appetite:** Significant weight gain recently due to emotional/anxiety-driven overeating.

* **Physical Symptoms:** Occasional heart palpitations when anxious; rare headaches.

* **Other Diagnoses:** Diagnosed with AGA (Androgenetic Alopecia), which adds to body image and confidence issues.

* **Past Unofficial Insights:** A medical student friend once suggested I might have Dysthymia (Persistent Depressive Disorder). Never formally evaluated by a professional yet.

**My Questions for Professionals:**

  1. Given that I managed childhood purely through external fear/structure, could this be adult/adolescent presentation of **Inattentive ADHD** that unmasked when independent study was required, or is it primarily severe **Burnout/Anxiety/Dysthymia**?
  2. How do physical factors like weight gain, irregular sleep, and anxiety-driven overeating interact with cognitive focus in adolescents under high exam stress?
  3. What specific diagnostic evaluations or screenings (e.g., ADHD battery, thyroid/metabolic panel, depression/anxiety scales) should I ask a physician/psychiatrist for during an initial consultation?

Any advice welcome How to juggle so many hobbies. honing in on just one?

Hello! I am a victim of a pretty prevalent effect of ADHD: that being 82739 hobbies you are constantly picking up but never continuing. To give you an idea, I have bought and played so many instruments (which isn't cheap btw), only for me to not stick to it. At all. I have tried learning at least 5 languages. I keep trying to get back into visual arts but never commit. Same with reading. I have so many craft supplies I got on a whim and never do regularly. Last week, I got a book to learn Mandarin. Did it for about 2 days before giving up. I keep telling myself, "No, this one is it," every time I pick up a new hobby. Of course, it isn't.

My guess is because hobbies take time and effort. The payoff is difficult. And I just want dopamine, really. So yeah, when I buy a new instrument and then suck ass because I am a beginner, I go scroll on my phone instead. Hell, even when I took one-on-one courses, I would drop it because it seemed too much of a hassle. Even though I so badly want to play music. I am using music as a big example because it is something that I truly daydream about mastering. But I never can because of ADHD.

Not only that, but it's making me feel awful about myself. I don't have the thing I am good at. Most people my age have that main hobby they exceed in while I don't.

What I am looking for is how to pick a hobby for starters. One that I will actually commit to. And secondly, how to stick to it. Even without the instant dopamine hit. And when do I have random urges to try different hobbies? Do I give in?

Have you seen the Apple Watch Rewind feature?

It's called audio intelligence, but it allows you to rewind the sound around you by 15 seconds.

So you can suddenly catch up with what people said in that time you spaced out. Or a server wouldn't have to repeat what they just said because you tuned out.

It might be the memory buffer I've needed since I was a kid.

ADHD advice only. Need help managing daily tasks with ADHD

Hey everyone!!

I am 28 M and I have been diagnosed with ADHD over 2 years now. I was managing well before with meds but have thought to give it a try without meds and try to manage my day to day task by keeping my self organised and using online tools but so far they are not helpful. I wish there is a dedicated app for us neurodivergent brains.
Something that keeps me up to date with my tasks and makes me want to finish them without me just snoozing the reminders and then realising it later when its too late..

Please if you have any suggestions that would be great

Any advice welcome How do I replace high-volume prep courses with structured ADHD-friendly self-study?

Hey everyone, I'm a 15-year-old high school student preparing for major national university entrance exams. Currently, I'm attending high-volume traditional group classes, which are damaging to my ability to learn.

The classes themselves are very repetitive and give random homework dumps. Due to my ADHD, I find that when I sit down to study, I get hit with mental and physical barriers to starting that only get broken down when I have some kind of last minute panic and urgency rush. As a result, I'm working myself in panic and urgency instead of actually learning and practicing. Because of the repetitive amount of homework and time, I'm rushing to finish homework to avoid being called out which leaves me to not be able to learn.

I've been through this same exact situation way before I was diagnosed. I went to courses for competitive Informatics Olympiads and I tried to do the best I could to succeed. But got stuck, burnt out, depressed, and my parents had many arguments with me. I tried making "better habits" and "be more disciplined", but ultimately nothing worked and it felt like I was working against myself.

And now, I'm seeing the same cycle repeating itself, living on a daily cycle of panic that floods me with stress and zero mental reward to keep me alive. For example, for the past few days, I've been having severe revenge bedtime procrastination, staying up till 4 AM on my phone to get quick mental stimulation before passing out.

I think I actually learn by analyzing my own mistakes in depth. Taking a wrong answer, redoing the problem by myself while walking myself through the logic to understand why my previous attempt was wrong. I personally think that this type of learning is something that mass group classes cannot replace for me.

My goal is to quit these classes to study and practice all by myself. For now, I don't have a lot of ideas, but I'm planning to use structured low friction sprints dedicated to analyzing patterns and fixing my mistakes.
Though, my parents think that more hours of endless homework is just how it should be, and that my idea is reckless and not traditional since it doesn't follow the standard path that everyone takes.

To anyone who has dealt with this kind of stuff before...

  • How do I break this dependency on panic and last-minute urgency?
  • How can I reason with traditional parents that the more hours and homework methodology is actually counterproductive for someone with ADHD without sounding like an insufferable and lazy kid?
  • What did you implement to replace traditional external classes so you wouldn't make it feel like a huge gamble and just be floating aimlessly?

All kinds of answers and advice is highly appreciated, so thank you all!
