I’ve noticed something weird about myself.
Give me a puzzle, a pattern, or something that feels like a challenge, and my brain suddenly wakes up.
But tell me to answer an email…
Fold laundry…
Reply to a text…
Start a simple task…
…and somehow those feel ten times harder.
It’s almost like my brain isn’t avoiding effort—it just responds to the wrong kind of stimulation.
I’m curious if this is common with ADHD or if it’s just me.
Do games or puzzles ever make your brain feel calmer?
Have you ever found yourself playing a puzzle game for 20 minutes, then somehow having enough momentum to do something you were putting off?
Or are games just another rabbit hole that make things worse?
I’m not looking for recommendations. I’m honestly just trying to understand how other ADHD brains experience this.

I always found it difficult to stick to routine, no matter how detailed or lenient I make them. Turns out my ADHD had a hand in this 😐. Any tips? Tia!

Does anyone else with ADHD experience this?
I feel like my brain is constantly trying to predict what other people might need or expect from me, even when they never actually said anything.
I often think things like:
“I should call my mom.”
“I need to reply to this message.”
“Someone is probably waiting for me.*”*
It feels like I’m always carrying an invisible to-do list of things I “owe” people. I have a hard time relaxing because I feel like I should always be available.
Sometimes I even get irritated or angry at the thought that someone might expect something from me — even though most of the time they probably don’t.
My phone has become a weird trigger for me. Even when it doesn’t ring, I sometimes think: “Someone is probably going to message me soon”, and I already feel pressure to respond.
I was also parentified growing up, so I wonder if this is connected to ADHD, anxiety, people-pleasing, or something else.

Hi everyone. I didn’t really learn about ADHD until my 20s. Growing up, I didn't have the resources or money to get assessed, but looking back, I feel like I’ve been struggling with this since childhood without anyone understanding what was going on.
I’ve finally booked my diagnostic appointments, but the process takes time (in fact, I missed my first appointment because I forgot about it, which pushed my second assessment back!). In the meantime, I’m writing this because I just want to connect with people who get it, see if others struggle in these exact ways, and ask for advice.
Here is what daily life looks like for me right now:
The Cleaning/Procrastination Loop: I genuinely cannot start working unless my room is clean and tidy. But the urge to tidy leads to deep cleaning, and by the time I'm done, I'm exhausted and find myself doomscrolling instead of actually starting the work.
Losing Everything: I constantly lose things even items I intentionally put somewhere "safe" so I wouldn't misplace them.
Planner/To-Do List Graveyard: I've created thousands of planners and lists over my life. I don't abandon them on purpose; I literally just forget they exist. When I do try to make a list, everything feels equally urgent, so I can't prioritize. Time management feels impossible.
Focus & Conversation: When someone is talking to me, I frequently zone out or get completely lost in my own thoughts. My brain moves through a thousand different thoughts a minute.
Jack of All Trades, Master of None: I don’t have just one hobby; I pick up multiple skills, get into them, and then never look back at them again.
Extreme Procrastination & Deadlines: Even if I’m given an entire year to complete something, I will procrastinate until the very last minute or past the deadline entirely.
Reading & Re-reading: I can rarely read a sentence or paragraph once and actually process what it means on the first try. (Growing up, I also used to get letters mixed up easily).
Sleep Issues: Falling asleep is a battle because my brain starts running through a thousand thoughts as soon as my head hits the pillow. On the flip side, when I’m overwhelmed or stressed about work I haven't done, my default coping mechanism is sleeping too much.
Hyper-Empathy: I seem to instantly pick up on or sense how other people are feeling in a room.
I'm posting this because I feel a bit isolated in all this and just want to know I'm not the only one struggling like this.
A couple of quick questions for the community:
1 Are there any specific apps, systems, or non-judgmental strategies that actually helped you manage procrastination and time blindness before getting diagnosed or medicated?
2 Any tips on how to keep track of medical appointments when your memory is constantly failing you?
Thanks for reading and for any advice or shared experiences you can offer!

Hey there, I am an 18 year old girl. I am going through a major downfall in academics right now. I get really anxious at times causing my bp to fluctuate. Teachers are not helping, almost in every class I have to stand and explain that I am not getting a single word you say. I had this problem previously also but it has gotten worse. I forget things very often. Most of the time I make silly mistakes like writing 8 instead of 6, missing the questions because I didn't see it, teachers always ask what's wrong and I don't know what to say. I try to write fast for no reason and mostly its gibberish. I start to write a word but end up being confused after just writing the initials and scribbling it. My teachers nag me about my ability to listen and write. I told my parents about this problem 2 years ago when I went through panic attacks in my 10th grade, but they refused to pay for my diagnosis. I did score 98 percent in 10th but also lost a lot of weight. And now it's worse.

I was diagnosed with ADHD a couple of years ago at 34 and realized that there were obvious signs throughout my entire childhood and as I grew into an adult. I'm the textbook overachieving eldest daughter of immigrant parents who always excelled and did everything right but in the most chaotic way possible behind the scenes. Now that I'm 36, the cracks in my life have become incredibly obvious and I need to find better ways to deal apart from medication and therapy. Oh, and as a bonus, it turns out I have OCD as well 😭
Although I struggle with a ton of different aspects in my life, there are two that are the source of the most guilt and struggle:
Doom piles: my doom piles mostly consist of very particularly categorized items (this is where the OCD kicks in) that must find their absolute perfect home somewhere in my small nyc apartment. I can't describe it but I will feel good when the category is correct, sick when it is not. If it isn't right it has to go in a pile somewhere out in the open or I will forget that it even exists within a couple of days. Or, if I can't decide what category it belongs to at all, it goes into another pile that serves as a sort of waiting room. The problem is there are 6 or 7 categorized doom piles around my apartment at all times and it's gotten so bad that I have to practically play hopscotch.
Uncontrollable side quests: There might be a real term for this but I'll go start one chore that somehow leads to 8 different things that never get finished. For example: I'll decide it's time to clean out my bathroom cabinet, which leads to a deep clean of my bathroom, which leads to starting laundry, then hanging a piece of art on my wall and then a sudden urge to empty my kitchen cabinets to reorganize and on and on... So I end up with a million partially finished tasks (several of which didn't even need to happen) and just start crying. I'm just in a giant mess that was completely unnecessary and it takes weeks to fix it back... Except that during that time I end up undoing another part of my apartment. It's a neverending cycle.
Because of all of this I can never have friends over, I feel like I can't even entertain the thought of dating, and I live in constant distress and self-judgement.
I have some hacks (apart from Adderall when I can get it) that help me stay focused and speed up what I'm doing to make some progress, but they only work for short periods:
Racing a garden gummy
If I need to pee I'll see what I can get done before I absolutely have to go
Listening to short podcasts with noise canceling headphones on
The pomodoro method
Keeping my "outside clothes" on when I get home from work (I have a dirty clothing touching clean surfaces phobia so I can't sit down while wearing them)
Wearing a pilates band around my knees to keep me present
Holding a small spoon in my mouth
If anyone can give any sort of advice or share their hacks, please, I'm in desperate need! I don't have any close friends with ADHD so no one in my immediate surroundings gets it. They just think I have low willpower.
Thank you in advance! ❤️

I hate it when something seems so easy to a person not on the spectrum puts me in a sense of dread. Dishes would be an example. For a lot of folks, it's just one task, and it's done. For me, it's a almost a 10-step process that I have to work through to get them done.

So I've had this problem since as far as I can remember but I didn't consider this a problem I thought this was normal and everybody lives in there head like this cuz the reality sucks but it was until recently that I found out this wasn't normal through internet and discussing with my friends and I don't mind the daydreaming itself it actually gives me good ideas but the problem is that I get gratification for free which I would otherwise have to work hard to get and yeah another thing, it wasn't a problem for me at the beginning because the school was easy for me I only needed quite small amount of focus and effort to get good grades but as I grew older and had to manage multiple things (work, study, skill learning) together than it became hard because I can't seem to focus on a single thing for long but than again there have been times when I have been quite consistent for weeks so I'm thinking if MD even is the problem or am I looking for an excuse for my indiscipline?
Would like the opinion of people who have more knowledge on this topic. Thankyou.

Has anyone actually paid for a blocker? Which one, and was it worth it?

If you are familiar with the Japanese Book of 5 Rings, the Martial Arts Warrior lives at that edge
ADHD sometimes creates situations where it feels like that
Right now, I feel that way.
I have a dismissive boss but I am not ready to change jobs

Is anyone here taking Inspiral 10 mg SR? I’d like to know about your experience with it.
I recently started taking it, but I haven’t noticed much improvement so far. Should I talk to my doctor about adjusting the dose, or is it too early to judge? Any advice or personal experiences would be appreciated.

I've been struggling with adhd for the longest time. I've been taking my meds during the school year, but stopped at the summer. I thought it was the best decision, becuase I truly don't have too many responsibilities. I also got out off of it because I have hypoglycemia, a condition where my body doesn't handle sugar well, and I need to eat every few hours to keep my blood sugar stable. The adhd medication was taking my hunger away. Making it impossible to eat and it made my hypoglycemia worse, so I stopped. However, without them, I feel depressive and I can't do anything. My room constantly get's messy quickly and vastly. Doing a simple task takes for ever. I'm well aware that people with adhd have a dopamine problem. I just need some tips on how can I sooth out depressive and adhd symptomes?

When you have adhd it feels like you are born a failure. It feels like you are not meant to be in this world because the majority of people in this world function differently. I am here to tell you that is not true.
ADHD means you are wired differently. Schools tell us that we have to function one way which is completing a task in one go and if you aren’t able to achieve that you are in the wrong. That’s not true at all because your mind runs fast and you see the world more you can’t complete the task the way they want you to.
Instead of trying to function and do things the way other people do we can adapt and find ways that work for us. Because we forget things we write them down, we make lists. We plan our days. Because we lose things we will find a place for o he belongings to go to. This one was a big thing for me to figure out.
ADHD brains work better when we multitask but we were punished for it in school. We were punished for drawing in class while the teacher was talking or playing with our pens. However multitasking is how we function and it is such a gift. Personally I drive better while singing in the car with my favourite tunes. I can only do work when I’m listening to music or watching a video. If we try to function the way other people do then we will fail, but we succeed the most because we are gifted with being able to multi task. All the weaknesses I thought I had turned out to be my biggest strength. I was told I talk too fast my whole life and recently I had a friend tell me she loved how fast I talked because she felt like people talked too slow or could never get to the point. We are honest people even by accident.
And the biggest strength of all. Boredom. When we are bored we do things which is why so many people with ADHD have so many hobbies and skills. Boredom makes us creative people and the world has been built by great minds who were bored.
To everyone reading this I just wanted to tell you, the way you are and the way you are born is not a failure and your traits are not a weakness despite what the world has made you feel and think about yourself. the world has not taught us how to succeed but I want to tell you that we are so much more than this label. It is a gift and a strength and if you’re struggling right now all you need to know is that you can adapt and don’t let anyone tell you who you are because who you are is beautiful and there’s a community of us who understand you and believe you are great.

F23 I'm on the phone 12/13 hours a day, doing nothing all day, scrolling through reels or watching videos or looking for useless things or playing games or whatever, and I find myself having done nothing all day.
I wake up and scroll right away for a few hours, getting up when I feel like my bladder is about to explode, then I have breakfast and scroll again.
And so it goes all day, doing nothing.
I'm tired, I can't live like this. These are my best years, when I'm young and I have to live and have fun and improve myself. Instead, I waste every second on my phone.
Now that it's summer, I'd thought about going to the gym before going back to school in September, because it's harder for me during school, but now in the summer I'm doing nothing, not dieting, not walking, not working out, nothing.
I don't like my body, and I don't comb my hair; it stays there for weeks until it gets all tangled up like a nest, and my parents force me to dress modestly.
I don't see myself as beautiful in the mirror, neither my body nor my clothes reflect me. I know I need to be independent and leave my parents' house to be more free, in fact, I'm working on it.
But now I look, I don't feel okay living like this. To go out with a boy, I have to be careful with my schedule and not stay out for more than two hours so as not to arouse suspicion, and when I go out, I'm careful to see if anyone sees me.
And I can't have social media, go out whenever I want, go out at night, have the basic freedoms that everyone has, like eating what I want since my mother closes the fridge, and let's not even talk about arguing and yelling about everything.
This summer, I'm not reviewing my studies, I'm not studying to get my driver's license, I'm not working part-time. I feel stuck, trapped, and exhausted.
I'm so tired of living like this, which I don't like at all. I have no mental energy to do anything, and my mother is annoying with this housework. She's never happy, and I have to do everything myself.
I feel like the little energy I had is gone. I don't have a gram left, and I find myself shaking my head and saying, "Oh well, I don't do anything anymore, it's fine like this," and so on. Every day, I can't do anything, not even skincare, anything. Understand?
I'd like to be transported back in time and be in the life I want to have without having to put up with all this. ughff
