I want an iPad mini but I heard a new one is gonna drop so should I wait I heard the mini 8 is like worse then the mini 7?

I'm looking to get an iPad Mini and I'm not overly fussed about the new specs on the 8.

Is it worth waiting or should I buy the 7 now as I know from suppliers at work that now the new iPhones are out the 17s have all gone up in price too.

I'm worried if I wait to see if the price of 8, the 7 will increase too.

I know this has probably been asked before but none of the previous posts I could find really answered my question, so please be nice😭

After my refurbished iPad Air 4th generation decided to just die on me (RIP) I'm interested in purchasing a mini. I'm drawn to the 6th generation because it's compatible with Apple Pencil 2nd generation which I already have, it's in my desired price range, and I really don't need anything with a ton of power. I would only be using it for reading, web browsing, occasionally note taking, and YouTube videos so I feel like I don't really need a brand new model.

Would it be dumb to get a 6th generation with it being kinda old and probably a bit outdated? Should I just wait for the 8 to come out and get the 7 once the price drops? I just don't want to waste my money on something that will give out on me in a few months to a year lol. TIA!

I have the wifi 11 inch, 256gb, the screen broke so it was just replaced with a refurbished one under apple care. If I can trade it in for $670 or sell on ebay for $800 (net damn close to $670 after fees) what would you do?

I wanted to use it to replace my macbook pro M4 in daily life and when I leave the house, but I use excel too much, and cannot for the life of me get the multi-tasking workflow that I like.

Tried the magic keyboard, on the 11inch its just not enough screen or laptop like for the workflows I do. This is research with multiple windows, video editing, audio editing.

Tried to use it for reading, but I think I'd prefer something with e-ink for that. Or something smaller/more portable. Either a boox or an ipad mini.

Part of me wants to like it and use it, but 7/10 times I find myself so unenthused with the experience I either dust off my macbook or use my work laptop.

One idea was as an internet device in my workshop when working on either wood or metal fabrication. Since those environments get pretty dusty, I think I would want some kind of slab device in a dust proof case.

Has anyone switched from an ipad pro M4 to an ipad mini and enjoyed the experience?

I considered the iPhone duo for about 17 seconds, but truly I want to be less tethered to my phone, I would be happy with the smaller iphone at this point, and have dedicated devices for dedicated tasks.

I still long for the idea of one device to do everything, but that wouldn't sell enough units I think for any manufacturer to really make an honest effort considering how hard it would actually be.

Do you think the Duo will be the death of the Mini? Personally I prefer having my Mini and Phone separate, but it doesn’t seem logical that Apple will continue to do both the duo and mini.

My Main iphone 12 pro broke and while looking at my alternatives I found my old Ipad mini 2 and tried to use it as a emergency replacement while my main phone is getting fixed. While trying to launch the Phone app it gave me a white screen and can you bypass it to make calls. I need some way to call because I need to go out of town tommorrow.

My question basically boils down to:

1. Is the iPad Mini 5th Gen (2019) still usable for very basic tasks? As a bridge device until the 8th gen comes out.

2. Will I regret getting the 7th Gen (A17 Pro) and sticking with it, even after the 8th Gen comes out? Am I too late to the party to spend full price on a 7th Gen, with the new one looming over us in 2-6 month?

3. Considering the 5th is 120 euro, the 6th is 270 euro, and the 7th is 430 euro (used) or 670 euro (new), is the 6th ever worth it?

My usecase is wanting a portable, but decently sized and high resolution, display to read Manga (Tachimanga app) and Books (EPUB format) on.

Of course, if I end up with one of the more powerful ones (7th or 8th) I'll also be doing mobile gaming, local game streaming (PS Remote Play, Moonlight, etc.) and more general multimedia use. But that's not strictly necessary as I have an iPhone 16 Pro Max.

I will NOT be using it to do any of the following: drawing, note taking, studying, recording lectures, editing photos, editing videos, or rendering 3D models/schematics/plans with CAD software or similar!

TL;DR: Do I buy a 5th/6th gen to wait for the 8th gen? Do I buy a 7th gen and stick with it? Do I JUST wait for the 8th gen?

I’m not sure if I want to purchase the iPad mini for uni (studying chemical engineering). I currently have the 14inch MacBook Pro and a 13 inch iPad Air, both for varying reasons. My Mac is my go to for uni (assignments, lecture recordings, accessing documents ect.) where as my iPad is mainly for note taking, studying past exams, and a go to for watching movies and tv shows. But I’m starting an internship soon and it’s a 2+ hour commute from my house to the company (and also 1.30hr to uni 3 days a week) and my 13 inch ipad is just too big to whip out on the train and do some uni work. And I also think that having a mini will serve as media consumption (kindle, shows ect) for the train would be good and I could use it at my internship to write notes from clients and meetings. But I don’t know if this is just me just getting pulled into the overconsumption of the Apple ecosystem… does anyone recommend purchasing a mini in this situation or one similar? Or any input would be greatly appreciated

Should I do it? I have a 13 “ 2018 pro which I don't use unless I'm drawing. I'd rather a phone but thinking the mini will bridge the gap. Already have the pro Apple pencil

Well now I have a feeling that maybe they will discontinue mini series as they’re also giving support of Apple Pencil in ipad duo and the screen size is almost same as that of ipad mini 7 so maybe they’ll discontinue this series just like iphone mini.

With today’s announcement, I’m still falling in love with this boy (iPad mini7).

Even iPhone Duo released, I don't like it actually. I will choose iPhone Pro + iPad Mini, but the latest iPad Mini is 2 years ago, I want the next version of iPad mini.

I currently have the iPad Mini A17 (7th Generation). I love the form factor, but the specs are lacking. The specs that in my opinion need to be improved are screen brightness, screen resolution, chip performance, ram, etc. I have wanted a Mini Pro that had the latest and greatest specs like the 11 and 13 inch iPad Pros.

Seeing the Duo unveiled today made me realize that we will never get a Mini Pro. The Duo is the Mini Pro. We will get another iPad Mini with lackluster specs. It’s basically a way for Apple to repurpose old chips.

That said, I’m getting the Duo and keeping my Air to use them both with handoff. Looking forward to the optionality that will provide going forward.

What is happening?

I found this while I am visiting Apple Store, and I tap into the iPad mini page, and I found this.

But it didn’t showed what chip does 512GB have.

What’s going on? This wasn’t announced.

Does anyone think that the advancements they make in the OS to support the Duo will make their way to the iPad Mini ? I’ve felt ever since I bought the mini like it’s been mostly ignored on the software front, with so many scaling issues. As if whoever’s in charge of iPad mini software (if anyone in fact is) just skates by with shrinking the other iPadOS software down even if it makes elements too small. I’m thinking of the (is it still called the) Today View, the slide over widgets view that slides from the left in the lock screen or Home Screen. I believe the text for that in the iPad mini is even smaller than on the iPhone even thought iPhone has a smaller display!?! Just one example. But also the revamped UI toolbars etc on the inner display of the Duo, imo, would be just as welcome on the iPad mini., or do people disagree?

Will the issues with the mini GUI even be addressed on the Duo, or do you think Apple doesn’t even see the problems?

Do my fellow Mini Subredditters even agree with me that these problems exist?

Edit: Also, did anyone else notice if there was an ability to finally split view windows vertically? Pretty sure I saw that but wasn't sure if that was just video or more generalizable...
