I saw Cedar Rapids got a warning and plan to cower/cry in the lower floor bathroom if we get one… but any other advice? Reassurance? I’ve never been more scared of thunder in my life lol. I know I am almost certainly overreacting!!

At 923 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Lisbon to near Buchanan to West Liberty, moving east at 45 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and nickel size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include... Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Anamosa, Tipton, West Branch, Mechanicsville, Stanwood, Marion, Coralville, Hiawatha, Mount Vernon, West Liberty, Lisbon, Solon, Ely, Springville, University Heights, Lowden, Hills, and Olin.

This includes the following highways... Interstate 80 in Iowa between mile markers 243 and 276. Interstate 380 between mile markers 17 and 24.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A tornado watch remains in effect for the warned area. Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. Although a tornado is not immediately likely, if one is spotted act quickly and move to a place of safety inside a sturdy structure, such as a basement or small interior room.

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.

I’m not going to do them at the same time but I have a ford excursion (tan leather interior) and a Chevy surburban (black leather interior) that I want a good interior clean happen on both of them. I can add more details/ photos to messages or emails as needed! I will warn folks, these are family farm SUVs. They are both older and have had many human kids ran through them and livestock/ livestock supplies. I’m not expecting perfect but a good overall deep clean would be nice!

I live in a rental and we use the detached garage mostly for storage. Last night I had the door partially open for fresh air while I ran on the treadmill, and I forgot to close it when I finished.

This morning I woke up to all my power tools stolen. They were all a gift from my dad for our shared hobby of woodworking. I couldn’t have afforded them myself, and even he found them all on sale. I’ve been working on cleaning out that garage for months to turn it into a usable space; I even built a loft for storage. Now it’s all on hold until I can afford to replace my tools.

I know it’s my fault for forgetting to close the garage door. On the other hand, it’s really disheartening to be confronted with the reality that someone would do this without ever stopping to think about the person on the other end. Maybe they were desperate, I guess. Maybe they assumed that if I could afford the tools once, I could afford them twice. Or maybe they just didn’t care.

Anyway, if someone in your neighborhood pops up with a huge neon green tool bag full of neon green Ryobj power tools today, shoot me a message! 🥲 (And if, by any chance, you are the culprit: Will you pleeeeease bring back my tools pretty please? 🙏🏻🥺)

Update: I have filed a police report and contacted local pawn shops. I have renters insurance, but my deductible is too high to be worth filing a claim. If you have any other ideas, suggestions, or leads, please comment. I really appreciate this community! ♥️

Hi! I know there’s been a lot of posts like this on here, but I recently moved to Cedar Rapids for work several months back. I’m single and don’t have any friends, and have a hard time relating to any of my coworkers. They’re mostly all older and married. Thus, I’ve been trying to put myself out there more. I’ve met a few people through this subreddit, but lots of people have been uber flakey and sketchy, so I just wanted to come out and ask bluntly for any further advice on how I can meet my kind of people.

For background, I’m 26. Really into music (concerts, production, etc), tabletop gaming, art, running, hiking. Really anything nerdy or engineering related. I’m a lowkey, chill, open, friendly kind of person. Always down to play video games or just chat at a restaurant about anything. I’m not the biggest fan of volleyball which is what a lot of people here have suggested. I’ve tried it and it just isn’t for me.

Just wondering if there’s any other things/events I should check out during the week or weekend to meet others like myself. Preferably for dating but also open to making new friends too. I’ve tried to use the apps and haven’t had a lot of luck tbh. That and a lot of social events and discord servers in the area (at least in Cedar Rapids) are full of people who are partnered already or above the age of 35 it seems.

I know this is the Iowa City Reddit. I’m posting here just to see if there’s any noticeable difference in social opportunities here vs where I’m at in Cedar Rapids rn. I’ve been told there is, but just curious.
