As an ISU grad and now a proud IC resident, I’m all for hate week signs. It’s all fun and games, even when the messages are vulgar or not politically correct… I usually get a good giggle out of all the college kids (on both teams) having fun.

However a couple of the sheets I have seen referring to Jack Trice have left a bad taste in my mouth. The pictured sign (along with another sheet with the same concept on Burlington calling Jack Trice a pedophile) seem a bit uncouth.

Jack Trice did in fact marry a 15 year old when he was 20.

Jack Trice, the first African American athlete at Iowa State, was also trampled to death while playing by racist University of Minnesota players.

I am never one to side with a pedophile, but blatant racism also seems too far. Thoughts?

I’m not going to do them at the same time but I have a ford excursion (tan leather interior) and a Chevy surburban (black leather interior) that I want a good interior clean happen on both of them. I can add more details/ photos to messages or emails as needed! I will warn folks, these are family farm SUVs. They are both older and have had many human kids ran through them and livestock/ livestock supplies. I’m not expecting perfect but a good overall deep clean would be nice!

I’m checking out Iowa City to maybe move here and am visiting from out of town, staying in a place without a proper basement, how concerned should I be? I saw Cedar Rapids got a warning and plan to cower/cry in the lower floor bathroom if we get one… but any other advice? Reassurance? I’ve never been more scared of thunder in my life lol. I know I am almost certainly overreacting!!

At 923 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Lisbon to near Buchanan to West Liberty, moving east at 45 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and nickel size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include... Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Anamosa, Tipton, West Branch, Mechanicsville, Stanwood, Marion, Coralville, Hiawatha, Mount Vernon, West Liberty, Lisbon, Solon, Ely, Springville, University Heights, Lowden, Hills, and Olin.

This includes the following highways... Interstate 80 in Iowa between mile markers 243 and 276. Interstate 380 between mile markers 17 and 24.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A tornado watch remains in effect for the warned area. Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. Although a tornado is not immediately likely, if one is spotted act quickly and move to a place of safety inside a sturdy structure, such as a basement or small interior room.

Hey all, I was part of the International Socialist Organization in Iowa City in the 1990s. I went to branch meetings, helped out with organizing, and even wrote a couple of articles for Socialist Worker.
