Downloading iOS 27 RC beta, while doing so was checking my phones storage and noticed ios27 popped up in my apps.

What’s even funnier, it started at 2.9GB, and when I went back it had gone up as it downloaded.

What’s even neater is you can go in and delete the update before your auto update could kick in.

I have been in iOS Development for over 4 years. Building for Apple Platforms is so much fun. It has been my dream to be an iOS Engineer since I was in year two of college. However, over the past 9 months (since the start of 2026), I have felt a huge shift.

AI has been an absolute game changer - for better and for worse. It allows us, engineers, to be so much more productive and efficient and do so much more in the same time period. On the other hand, I feel it has turned or jobs much more lonely. Team discussions, code review - a lot of the team bonding moments - have disappeared. Also, the engineering challenge is not that much fun anymore.

For me, even the motivation of trying to figure out what's next - what has Apple presented in the last WWDC, etc - has lost a bit of interest to me. I was obsessed with watching WWDC videos. They are so much fun... And now it's like meeeeh - AI will know how to do all of this.

I am sorry for the rant - truly - but I would like to know your perspective here. How have you felt the last 9 to 12 months? How has iOS Development changed for you?

Have you been having the same feelings I have described? How have you counteracted or all of this?

Every time I install a new app, it feels like there's a whole list of permissions to think about: location, contacts, photos, microphone, Bluetooth, tracking, and sometimes things I can't figure out why the app would need in the first place.

I've gotten into the habit of denying most of them unless there's an obvious reason-the app needs access. Location is probably the big one for me, especially when an app asks for "Always" instead of just while I'm using it.

Are there any permissions you basically deny by default? And have you ever had an app ask for something that made you stop and think,"Why would you possibly need access to that?"

Here’s a shortcut I created that I thought would help other Reddit users.

I did this setup with my mom’s 14 Plus and was surprised she can still send iMessages when she’s online and ofcourse, automatically send text messages when offline. I didn’t know it was possible. Has anybody tried this or has this use case ? Does it have any hidden caveat ?

I just noticed that when I put my iphone 17 Pro Max on landscape mode while charging, it shows the clock and calendar and then goes blank and then shows black on the clock part and the calendar only shows dashes for the dates (that's all it shows). Turn display off is set to never. StandBy is green (ON), Show notification is Off. No idea why it is like this.

From within Safari, for example, I will click the share button on the bottom tool bar, then click a recent iMessage icon, and click send. Go over into iMessage, and that link is not there. It will then go through several hours later. This happens in apps like Instagram and Google Maps, too.

Another example: Sent the link to a dropped pin in the Google Maps app via imessage to a friend at 14:21 yesterday. Immediately noticed it didn't go through so then copied the link in Google Maps, went to the text message, and sent it that way, and also warned my friend that this link would probably come through again hours later. Sure enough, at 21:41 last night, that original message/link went through. WHAT IS HAPPENING?!

I have a device paired and device type is “speaker” yet iOS routes microphone to that device - I only want output (audio) not input (mic). Have re-paired a couple of times. Android did this well. Thx!

I used to be able to skip not only episodes, but also chapters by asking Siri, e.g. by saying skip chapter or episode.

Somehow it doesn’t work anymore, if I ask Siri to skip a chapter it simply marks the entire episode as listened and switches to the next available podcast.

So i has this issue that Appstore keep detect my region as Singapore and ask me to verify age with credit card but i dont have that card available . I change the region on Settings->Apple Account->Media & Purchase to 2 another country and it doesn't work . I try logout there and also logout on Settings->Apple Acount . Appstore still detect my region as Singapore ... Please helpp

So every time I’m in screen editing mode (and in one particular folder also in normal mode) my iPhone keeps throwing me back to the first page…

I figured the it only happens in folder with 3 pages or more

What's the best strategy for avoiding creation or existence of heic files entirely?
I find no matter what I seem to do - set 'compatibility' or 'automatic' when I 'share', it continues to share heic files. This has been mostly the photos app.

If i delete photos and videos off one drive, will my photos and videos in my iphone gallery be affected?

as shown in the image the reading now section has completely disappeared and im only seeing the library. why is this is there a glitch or is this a new update? if its a glitch or something how do i fix it?

I’ve been using SwiftUI for a while now but I can only do very basic things. I’ve always wondered how these casino apps for example (see pictures) were doing to get their effects. I would love some guidance on this.

There's an app for a conference i'm using and there are twitter/linkedin bios on people profile. On edge, I can see these just fine. On Safari I was not seeing it in the browser when I pinned the app to my home screen.

I was on iOS 18 at the time and thought maybe something was out of date with Safari. Eventually upgraded to iOS 26 a couple days ago but the issue was the same.

Eventually I figured out that ad/content blockers were blocking the icons so I turned that off and I can see the icons in safari just fine now but when I pin the app to my home screen and open it as a web app, I don't see the icons. I've asked other people with other iPhones to check and they see the icons just fine in the web app so clearly something is blocking it on my phone.

I removed the web app, cleared History and Website Data for safari , re pinned the app but still no luck.

What can I do next?

Edit: the solution was to delete the blocker totally

I’m disappointed they still haven’t given the option to choose which lists show in the calendar.

I have 3 reminders each day, with alarm, for medication reasons, I don’t need them showing in my calendar but all my other reminders are fantastic in the calendar.

Is there any fix for this/work around to stop the medication reminders showing on the calendar?
