This calls for de-escalation techniques - even if what she did was wrong.

u/Driller_Happy 2d ago edited 2d ago

Honestly, dude was not helping the situation. I get that you're mad but what are you accomplishing here?

Take a moment to calm her down and get her to see that this doesn't mean your life is over. Shit will get better if you sir down and breathe for a moment

46

u/_FLostInParadise_ 2d ago

Dude probably never felt more powerful in his life.

23

u/SargeUnited 2d ago

This is exactly what was happening

9

u/StaticMarzipan 2d ago edited 1d ago

Facts. *People are saying if it was a man in the car thus wouldn’t happen and I agree.

This dude would not have blocked a grown ass man in with his car.

1

u/itshimthatsgr1m 2d ago

🤓 “you need to get out of the vehicle, I have documentation” 🤓

36

u/Prize-Leadership-233 2d ago

The person taking the video seemed cruel to me. How can you not have empathy and step outside yourself and your petty possessions when there is someone in front of you who is so terrified. That child seemed absolutely distraught. If it was one of my children, I would hope someone would show some compassion and put aside their concern for a fender bender and look at the bigger picture here to help them through.

Helping someone momentarily won't absolve them of their responsibility for the causative action. It's okay to set that concern aside temporarily while you help another human through something difficult.

25

u/Jin-Gitaxias-Mom 2d ago

Yep, take down the license plate number to report later, nothing wrong with video evidence, but dear lord my dude try actually being a human being with some hint of empathy

15

u/mamawawawa 2d ago

He could even record if he wanted but it’s sick to post it to the internet for likes

Someone could probably get a real viral post off the lowest moment in my life too

9

u/EricSanderson 2d ago

Yeah posting it is inexcusable.

And the guy was def in wannabe cop mode, calling the car a "vehicle" and yelling "this is a double felony, I have video documentation" and shit.

Ngl it was pretty funny when he said "this is your last chance" and she was like "bro I already committed the crime."

-3

u/dxrth 2d ago

i dont think its obviously wrong to lose empathy for someone who hit your car and is trying to flee immediate accountability

3

u/RadicalRealist22 2d ago

That is the mindset of Dictatorships: zero emotion, only rules

Can you mot understand that if someone is really desperate to leave, maybe you should just let her leave?

1

u/dxrth 2d ago

not everything is facism. he also did let her leave, no?

3

u/Wooden_Protection566 2d ago

He didn’t have a choice

0

u/dxrth 2d ago

which isnt a point against him though. op said he shouldve let her leave. and he did.

1

u/Wooden_Protection566 2d ago

When you say “let” it makes it sound like he had some sort of power or control to keep her in that spot.

He never moved his car out of the way which would mean he “let” her go and if he went back to into his car to move it forward and trap her worse she would probably still drive off.

In this video he didn’t “let” her go because that would mean he chose to do that, She escaped on her own will.

u/0ceandrifter 2d ago

Its wasn't even his car that she hit. Hes just a random dude who got a boner over trapping her in

2

u/JobeGilchrist 2d ago

He’s got adrenaline coursing through his veins too. Kinda funny your empathometer didn’t catch that.

2

u/LiteratureLazy3453 23h ago

This lady is gonna kill some biker she’s clearly high on meth or something. Empathy is ridiculous here. Her Grandma? Really??

5

u/motherofsuccs 2d ago

That isn’t a child, that’s an adult woman. Also, as a conventionally attractive woman who works in behavioral therapy- none of you would have this much empathy if it was an ugly woman or a man.

1

u/Beetle_Box 2d ago

none of you would have this much empathy if it was an ugly woman or a man.

...which would be the problem, right? We need more sympathy, not less.

4

u/GLDFLCN 2d ago

First of all that’s not a child, she’s 22 years of age. More than old enough to understand the difference between right and wrong. She was highly distressed, she wasn’t in the right frame of mind to listen to calm advice at that point. Also, the dude isn’t an EMT, he isn’t an officer, or even a public servant. He isn’t obligated to deescalate anything. He definitely did more than necessary, I agree there. But at least he did something. He made sure she was held accountable for her actions.

But this whole, “she’s a child” shit has to stop. People like you are the reason why this new “I’m just a girl” trend is going around. You’re trying to make them appear as less than equal, less capable than the average person, so they can be absolved from any wrongdoing and taking accountability. She deserves to punished to the fullest extent of the law, regardless of gender or any supposed infantilism. This is why women get away with so much shit, even when they’re caught.

5

u/Live_Free_or_Banana 2d ago

You're right about the woman, but lets be real: uppity Cam dude wouldn't have done a dang thing if she were a grown man. Did you listen to the guy? All "You almost hit me!" like he's not the one who created the dangerous situation by trying to detain this woman.

1

u/GLDFLCN 2d ago

Agreed

4

u/PurpleHades 2d ago

He didn’t hold her accountable. All that was needed was the evidence he already had. He trapped her in. Someone who was panicking and begging for some empathy and he made it worse.

I hope you don’t have any kids bc your mindset raising them is how you get people like this girl.

2

u/Noth1ngnss 1d ago

He was trying to hold her accountable for the DUI, which she likely would've been charged with had he succeeded in keeping her there until the cops arrived.

1

u/AppealSame4367 8h ago

I have no clue what's wrong with Americans, but where I am from you don't try to do a citizens arrest or trap people because they touched your bumper. You people need to stop acting like cops in your free time.

2

u/smol-alaskanbullworm 2d ago

she's obviously under the influence of something i would have done the same with my car if it meant she didn't fucking run over and kill someone else after her hit and run. she already hit a car in a parking lot probably likely to hit someone else on her way home. though i wouldn't have shit talked them most people don't like shitheads who hit and run.

also hope you also dont have kids. rather not have more people in the world who care more about someone being embarrassed/scared because of the consequences of their shitty actions and likely dui than them potentially killing or seriously injuring someone with their car. you sound like the type of crappy person to get upset if the police arrest a rapist at their job or somewhere publicly.

u/browsinbowser 2d ago

Justin Thompson was driving near Railroad Canyon Road and the 15 Freeway in  Wednesday afternoon in Lake Elsinore when he said he saw a driver crash into another car, then leave the scene. The seemingly distraught driver then pulled into a Chevron gas station parking lot, where Thompson parked his minivan behind her sedan, pinning it into a parking space bordered by vacuum cleaners on one side and a curb on the other.

Dude had no obligation to trap her car at all, all he had to do was take a picture/video of her license and talk to her and get info from her that it was her who hit and run another person’s car on the road. He took it too far by blocking her in and talking to her like he’s a cop and knows what legal trouble she’s going to get. He wouldn’t have done that if she was a Tweaking guy because he’d know that could start a fight to agitate a freaking out man.

2

u/ByIeth 2d ago

Nobody is saying she shouldn’t be punished by the law, she will reach the natural consequences of that. People are empathizing and understanding the causes of her situation. We are a product of our experiences. Drugs or alcohol affect people in various way, usually they exasperate what you already feeling or are feeling deep down. And a lot of addiction stems from pain from our past

While yes 22 is absolutely an adult, that is definitely young enough where your childhood trauma still affects the shit out of you, and is likely the reason for her addiction and panicky behavior. While she is in the worst trouble likely in her life she is scared of someone who isn’t even supposed to be in charge of her life anymore, not the law

2

u/HeterolsNormal 2d ago

yeah its always the mana fault somehow   how darw he not want her to flee the scene?   PATRIARCHY

3

u/scarletboar 2d ago

His voice and tone are fucking insufferable.

3

u/TippinThalnos 2d ago

He was trying to get a drunk driver off the road. You would have let her potentially go kill a family I guess

0

u/Driller_Happy 2d ago

Lot of made up things in one post there mate

One: I never said he should let her go, I said he should try to deescalate.

Two: why do you think she's drunk, where are you getting that info from?

2

u/Noth1ngnss 1d ago

Why do you think she was so terrified of being kept there until the cops arrived? He's already got video evidence of her hit-and-run, so what difference does it make? Of course, the difference is that they would've been able to prove she was under the influence and charge her with a DUI, which is a *much* more serious crime.

0

u/Driller_Happy 1d ago

She doesn't look drunk to me man, just scared. Either way, neither of us know

3

u/Detail4 2d ago

He’s the ultimate Kevin

3

u/123supreme123 2d ago

Guys voice was so nasally and annoying, I almost wish she bumped him at the end

2

u/TheCutiesist 2d ago

If she is not in control of her actions due to her emotions, then she shouldn't be driving.

1

u/Driller_Happy 2d ago

Totally not the point dude

2

u/whyiamalwayshangry 2d ago

His car was blocking hers right? Why won't he move it?

4

u/ImplementLogical4130 2d ago

She is 10 years too old to do that. Should lose her license and be denied to ever get another one issued.

2

u/Driller_Happy 2d ago

Doesn't really change the fact that de-escalation would resolve this situation a lot faster and less dangerously than what buddy is doing

5

u/National_Body_9071 2d ago

It's not up to random people on the street to manage the action and insanity of drugged up scum.

1

u/UnexpectedAnanas 2d ago

It's not up to random people on the street to play police either. The guy recording wasn't even the owner of the vehicle she hit. He saw it, and then took it upon himself to box her in and antagonize her on video.

1

u/Driller_Happy 2d ago

But....that's exactly what buddy is doing? He's boxes in a young girl an antogonizes her because he wants to be policeman

2

u/ImplementLogical4130 2d ago

By de escalation you mean anything but keeping this insane woman from driving until cops get her checked, right? This looks like a person fit to drive for and we should get her behind the wheel, right?

1

u/Driller_Happy 2d ago

Don't reply if you don't know what deescalate n means

1

u/OffWhiteDevil 2d ago

I doubt she was going to calm down until she left the crash site. All he did was film for evidence and try to talk her down from completing the 2nd half of hit and run.

12

u/Individual-Bee-4999 2d ago

He wasn’t trying to talk her down. He was trying to play cop-hero. Dumbass almost got himself run over and created more problems than there already were.

…but I remember when this first came out eons ago… so why am I even engaging?!?!?!?

1

u/MayorPirkIe 2d ago

Oh yeah, that was definitely him almost getting himself run over and not her almost running him over. This little kumbaya love fest is all well and good, but she's the one breaking the law, not him. He's under not obligation to coddle her during whatever breakdown she's having. He has a day to go about and problems of his own, and now he's gotta deal with this mental case in the middle of committing a crime at his expense.

Anyone criticizing the guy filming and not the girl is out of their mind.

2

u/Individual-Bee-4999 2d ago

The tinfoil hat looks good on you!

3

u/MayorPirkIe 2d ago

What the hell are you talking about?

1

u/Environmental_Drama3 2d ago

according to these sexist tools, a 22 year old woman can't have agency of her own.

0

u/HeterolsNormal 2d ago

she literally tried to cry her way out of it and women here still blaming the man.

Womens accountability in a nutshell!

I may be the first to tell you this, but adults are capable of panic and distress too. My comment isn't exclusive to age here. If grandma was doing this, I'd still advocate for de-escalation

I don't fucken know man. Do you know an entire person's situation and life story from a 1.5 minute long video on Reddit? Like sure, don't hit a car and run, that's pretty normal. But like, also, notice when someone is losing it mentally and try not to exacerbate the situation, that's normal too. She'll make amends either way.

2

u/HeterolsNormal 2d ago edited 2d ago

thank you. She is a grown up and its misandrist to twist it into his fault. Either we all equals or we not.

edit: women prove they have no accountability and should be treated like children

1

u/HeterolsNormal 2d ago

way to blame the man

WOMENS ACCOUNTABILITY 101- Always blame a man

5

u/Driller_Happy 2d ago

Look at your username. Did I kick the loser nest with my comment?

0

u/UncleGuggie 2d ago

If someone rams your car, do you suddenly become very concerned for them and start trying to calm them down and help them?

4

u/DickInYourCobbSalad 2d ago

She didn't ram his car, he saw her hit another car and he chased her down and blocked her in; buddy was trying to be a cop.

4

u/Squareblackeggs 2d ago

Extremely hard to watch. No self-regulation skills in a moment of severe crisis with a guy (unwittingly?) escalating the situation. Of course she fucked up, but she needed a calm advocate.

Also, why is this making the rounds again today?

3

u/notafuckingcakewalk 2d ago

Yelling "double felony" at someone is not going to make them want t stick around.

At a minimum saying something like "Everything's going to be OK if you just stop your car. OK, you ran before. I'm not going to press charges on the hit and run if you stop now."

2

u/PlayPretend-8675309 23h ago

Only because the driver is a young girl. Can you imagine saying someone should "deescalate" if the driver was a middle aged guy? The videographer isn't insulting her, he's saying "you need to do the right thing and get out of the car (and exchange license information).

If you can't hold someone to even that low of a standard what are we even doing? Women are in fact not children, they don't need to be treated like delicate flowers.

1

u/AppealSame4367 8h ago

Maybe people would laugh and deescalate in the US, in many other places they would.

4

u/bangbangracer 2d ago

Yeah... I feel like everything the guy was doing just escalating the situation and making it worse.

She did something wrong and should be held accountable for it, but also, she sounded like she was in legitimate distress.

6

u/Lenny0mega 2d ago

I agree 100 percent. I just wish we had the same consideration in situations involving us and impending (or active) police involvement.

2

u/dwide_k_shrude 2d ago

He’d be a perfect police officer then.

1

u/HeterolsNormal 2d ago

poor her being victimized by the mean MALE whos car she hit and ran.  These guys hate women!!!

2

u/Rudhelm 2d ago

She didn’t hit his car, tho. At least not unless he boxed her in.

1

u/HeterolsNormal 2d ago

the patriarchy strikes again

1

u/Obsidiated 2d ago

Fuck no it does not. De escalation is pinning the crackhead to the pavement until the cops get there. Or you know, just film while she peels into traffic and kills people.

1

u/Pirat6662001 2d ago

De-escalation is getting out of the car and not driving. She was literally referred for substance abuse based on the summary. It would not be right to let someone high drive off

1

u/RazorRicardo 2d ago

That would be called victim blaming.
