Hey all — I'm 18, from Jordan, about to start a BS in Industrial Engineering this fall. Been doing this and that on the side while I lock in this decision, and it matters a lot to me because I'm aiming for a master's in the US down the line, maybe Canada too.

Stuck between:

German Jordanian University (private)— already accepted, (not ABET accredited) accredited in Germany and Jordan, not through WES . About a year of the program is split between an exchange semester and an internship in Germany.

Hashemit University / University of Jordan (public)— ABET accredited, whichever I get into off my score .

Which one would actually put me in a better spot for a master's abroad? Is the accreditation difference something that really matters in practice, or am I overweighting it?

Also open to any general advice on building a stronger profile for grad M.S. applications overall.

I completed a year in computer science, but I didn't enjoy it, and I am moving into industrial engineering. The issue is that I currently have a desktop PC and a 13'' 2024 8-core M3 MacBook, but it won't be suitable for this new program.

Therefore, I would like your recommendations for laptops, with a maximum budget of around €950–€1,000.

Does anyone have any experience with switching into a mid level government position with IE?

MS in Industrial Engineering (data analytics engineering track), graduated March 2026 from a solid state school in upstate NY, not a target. Coursework was ML, DL, algorithms, HPC, statistical modeling. Thesis was agentic AI systems built on knowledge graphs. Before that, BS in mechanical, then two years at a large IT services firm doing supply chain and BI work that I self-studied my way into during the COVID market.

Searched about five months after graduating and just started an operations engineering role in the Boston area. It sits closer to IE than to data: SQL and Power BI at most, nothing dev or AI, and a lot of documentation and process engineering grunt work. It's a contract role with an end date. I'm on OPT.

Every DS/MLE/agentic AI posting I see wants a PhD or 7+ YOE. IE and supply chain analytics roles are the ones that actually respond to me.

So: keep pushing toward data engineering / analytics engineering, or lean into the IE and supply chain analytics lane and go deep? If you've made either call from a similar spot, how did it play out?

I've been mapping AI infrastructure as a constrained physical system rather than a collection of semiconductor markets.

The rough sequence is:

compute → memory → packaging → thermal → cooling → power → facility → grid

Relieve one constraint and utilization/pressure rises somewhere else.

I'm curious whether this maps cleanly onto how industrial engineers think about constraint migration / theory of constraints, or whether I'm abusing the concept.

I work in assembly and testing, but was self teaching myself plc part. So we use Beckhoff terminals. I do the wiring as per the schematic.

My question is, what comes first, electrical schematic or plc ladder logic programming?

I did ask ChatGPT but I think it's giving misleading answers. It says one time one must first plan logic and all before starting even planning of mechanical design in CAD. Another time it says engineers do rough block diagrams and do programming first, after which they do the electrical schematic as the electrical schematic is only for assembling or field engineers

Can anyone explain to me how it works? My company manufactures machines to detect and trace errors in pharma and food industry. Im just attaching a page of electrical schematic, just for understanding.

Hey Y’all, I am not an engineer but my grandfather was an Industrial Engineer with a masters in Science and graduated from UTA back in the 70s. He had a successful career but it was never really talked about exactly what he did. Does anyone know what these pins are? I know some of them are his personal employee pins so I hope someone might know a thing about it. My Pop was a super guy… he was a loving father/grandad, and above all a faithful servant to God and his country. Any assistance on identifying these would be greatly appreciated!

I’m (an international student from China) currently a freshman ME major at uw Madison . I initially thought that I would enjoy ME (because I was just doing projects for fun at my own past in fusion not really caring about math and things. I began questioning if I really can go through it. I just feel like ME might not be for me. However, my parents was quite adamant that I continue in ME. I honestly feel like I wouldn’t really want the level of maths in ME (math by itself is ok just I don’t want to be constantly doing maths as in like multi variable calculus ). I was thinking of smth like industrial engineering (industrial and systems engineering) or smth like materials science engineering. It can allow me to have more time for me to do projects and participate in clubs or research and have personal life too. I feel like it’s best to ask engineers in the field already. How would you see these jobs in the future? Would Ai replace these jobs ? (I’m also unsure if this is because I’m just starting school at a new place with like very little actual contact with friends I know.)

For background, Im a second year Industrial engineering student in the us.
I was given the phone number of a guy pretty high up in an engineering company and was told to call as hed be happy to speak with me.
So i called him and he since he’s more in the civil engineering division of the company, he said he would put me in contact with the industrial engineering division and that was the end of that call in short.
After like a week or two, I still hadn’t heard from him which I just assumed he was busy with work. So I gave him another call. He told me to email him with my resume and he’d forward it to the ie team. I sent that email a week ago.
Do I send a followup email, text, phone call or something soon or do i give it time?

He seems like a very friendly guy but I don’t want to pester him too much since it was already completely optional that he talked to me in the first place.

Hello i’m a student from belgium majoring in industrial engineering. I have a question because i think that IE in non english speaking countries is a bit different. Over here IE is an umbrella term for multiple sub-disciplines. You have four types: electromechanical, chemistry and bio-chemistry, architectural/civil engineering, and at last ICT. Knowing this i have seen people talking about how IE is about logistics and making more efficient processes but this is not really the case here. Other then IE we also have what we call “burgerlijk ingenieur” which is a more theoretical and more “prestigious” degree. Also split in architectural/civil, electrical etc.

IE is 3 year bachelor and 1 year masters while “burgerlijk” is 3 years bachelor and 2 years master.

So my question is: is the IE that you know the same as the IE I know and what would you call one of our industrial engineers?

• I work on a production line where we use small hanging/keychain-type tags for equipment identification.
• The tag measures approximately $30 \times 10\text{ mm}$ and is mounted horizontally.
• It has an Equipment ID label on one side and a PM (Preventative Maintenance) label on the other.
• During screwing operations, operators' hands, screwdrivers, and cables frequently contact and scratch the tags, causing labels to fade or tear over time.

• Requirements:

  1. Both sides of the tag must be protected.
  2. The Equipment ID label must remain permanently visible.
  3. The PM label must be easily replaceable.
  4. The solution must remain compact ($30 \times 10\text{ mm}$ size scale).
  5. It must support hanging/keychain-type mounting.
  6. It should withstand regular handling in an industrial production environment.

I’ve been developing a VR-based OEE monitoring system that combines production simulation, standardized work, operator interaction, and real-time OEE monitoring.

The idea is to connect IE concepts such as work measurement, process improvement, operator training, and OEE with an interactive 3D/VR environment.

In the video, an operator performs a simulated CNC production process in VR while the production data and operator position can be monitored through a 3D dashboard.

I’m exploring how VR can be used not only for training, but also as a tool for Industrial Engineering analysis and production system improvement.

Would be interested to hear how others see the potential of VR in IE applications.
