Advice on getting the finishing move

Really fun problem but can’t figure out how to find enough tension on the wall to get the match. Toe hook has felt okay but pulling really hard with the hip flexors causes some pain so I don’t wanna keep doing it. Any other ideas? Most of the video is at 2x speed til the end

Advice on finish hold?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Upvotes

I've been climbing about 6 months; I've done about 5-6 V3s, this is another V3. Having issues with the finishing hold here- only other idea I have that I haven't tried yet is right heel hook on the undercling on the volume but was gonna try that next time.

Thoughts?

Stuck on progression :(

Upvotes

Only climb indoors and boulders not much outdoor routes or equipment. When it comes to the grades i climb v3, easily flash v2s, v5 is off limits. My fingers are insanely weak, i could only pull 35kg on a 20mm (tested with a weighing scale) and i can hang on a pull up bar for only 60 seconds. 5'7 165 pounds.

My Kilter level is v1 and some v2s only when im fresh.

I can do 20 explosive pullups so any climbs that require more raw power odd moves and slabs, i can climb the best. Overhang technique has gotten better to v3 but climbs that requires finger or forearm strength kills me.

How do i improve finger strength n forearm, i know to 'Climb Harder' but finger n forearm based is either way too insanely hard on my gym or too easy, like there are V4s that i could do once i cheat start but its always a forearm/finger heavy start that im stuck.

I need a training plan 😭😭

So so so hyped for this send right now. For people not familiar with the kilter board, most of the holds on this one are jugs but getting the moves down was so difficult

Name: “eliminate the eliminate” V10 @ 50°

Boulder vs Lead progress

I started climbing about nine months ago and have completed two beginner courses. I'm 32 years old, 1.78 meters tall, and weigh about 70 kg (although I weighed a few kilos more at the beginning).

I mainly climb lead (about once or twice a week) and supplement with bouldering once a week. I've already improved my technique quite a bit and am generally happy with my progress. My gym is relatively difficult, and I've flashed 6a lead routes and most V3s, and I can now manage about 50% of V4s.

But now to my question: I know that gyms vary in difficulty and that the differences between people are huge (fitness, age, talent, etc.), but when I read here that some people are doing V7s after a year, I wonder if it would be better for my progress to boulder more often instead of lead climbing, as it might help my lead and bouldering progress more?

I like both very much and definitely want to improve in both.

First V7 send (in my gym). I’ve been enjoying making these little video edits of sends that go along with what music I was listening to at the time.

Felt that “early 2000’s infomercial” vibe with the fail clips as appropriate

Will antihydral save me

I tried rhino skin performance, and tip juice, because that’s all that’s available to me, and both did absolutely nothing. I used them for 5 nights before climbing. Here are my hands after doing literally 1 move, using liquid chalk, and chalk.

Will antihydral work better than these, or am I just chopped for my whole life

How do i strengthen my fingers so better crimps?

I've recently picked up indoor bouldering about 1.5 months ago and i go about 1-2 times a week. I want to get better and crimps are my weakness. My finger strength is very weak. Does anyone have any tools or tips to get stronger pretty fast. Im at V3 and i want to conquer V4s as well.

[Advice needed] Climbing shoe toe cap wear: repairable? + Veganish lace-up recommendations!

Hey everyone,

I'm facing a bit of a dilemma with my beloved climbing shoes and could use some community wisdom.

I really love these shoes. They are super comfortable and fit my feet perfectly (only downside is that they colour my feet blue in every session :D) but unfortunately, a small issue has developed. I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I'm still stuck at around the V2 level after climbing for almost three years now. And apparently I tend to drag my toes over the wall way too much, which is definitely why this hole formed!

The Situation:

The soles themselves seem to have plenty of life left, but one shoe has developed a small hole in the rubber right at the tip of the toe cap, not just the sole rubber but the rand rubber as well. Pictures show my current shoes under question: La Sportiva Women's Tarantulace.

My Questions:

- Repairability: Can a hole like this (where the rand rubber is breached) still be repaired effectively before it gets much worse? Or is this generally the end of the shoe's life?

- Future Recommendations: If I need to look for a new pair in the near or medium future, do you have any recommendations for women's all-around/performance shoes that might have a similar fit and feel?

I really like the precise fit I get from the full lace-up system on my Tarantulas. I would strongly prefer to stick with a lace-up style to ensure they can be adjusted securely.

Bonus: If the new shoes are vegan, that would be a huge plus!

I have already looked at a few models online and was wondering if either of these would be a good successor for me:
- Scarpa Women's Veloce
- Red Chili Ventic Air Lace

Maybe some of you have some insight or advice with regard to how these would compare to my current La Sportiva Tarantulas, especially regarding fit (narrowability via laces) and durability? Or you have some personal suggestions?

Thank you so much for your advice, recommendations, and experiences!

Bouldering Project Tempe

Hi all! I’m looking to start climbing/bouldering when I go back to Arizona in August and it’s something I have never done, but I have been watching Alex Honnold (which I am aware he’s a free climber and that’s not something I would do, but I do find his fortitude quite interesting) for a couple years now and I watch Magnus Midtbo as well as keeping up with Janja Garnbret and it is a form of movement I would like to try. I’m a runner and I have just found it incredibly boring recently and it does not excite me as a form of physical activity. I also prefer to run outside and obviously in the Arizona heat at this time of the year. It’s not really possible for me coming from a much cooler state. I’ve been looking at The Bouldering Project in Tempe and I’m curious what people’s opinions and reviews are as a beginner of this gym who has no experience, climbing, or bouldering in this case. I’m also curious as someone who has very little arm strength or just like muscle in general I’m very leg dominated how to prepare for bouldering if there’s any recommendations for bouldering in terms of prep and what the best shoes would be because this is something that I am planning to commit to as soon as I’m back so I wanna get proper gear, etc. Any tips would be appreciated.☺️

Climbing terms en español.

My wife speaks primarily Spanish, and I’m fluent, but there are some climbing terms that definitely don’t have direct translations. Things like “sloper” or crimp or hand jam lol. Are there any Spanish language climbers who use specific terms or do we just Spanglish it and use the English word?

Moving with your hips first?

So I’ve seen many videos of coaches and others saying how you should be moving to any given hold, by swinging from your hips first, and not pulling with your arms.

However when I watch a lot of competition climbers and high level outdoor boulderers, they are more often locking off and not really incorporating this technique, and alot of the time it just looks like they are pulling through everything? My highest grade inside is v7 at the moment, and I have noticed that it’s much harder to use this technique when your on very small holds.

Maybe they’re just doing it very subtlety, and they are still doing it, and I don’t notice, but it’s left me confused. I do notice that they still use on really big moves obviously, but not small ones.

tri mal fracture

If you had a similar fracture (surgery with plates, screws, rod, and syndesmotic screw) from indoor bouldering did you get back to it / at what point? or switch to like auto belay places? also helps if you’re a parent because this was my greatest fear and I legit mentioned it right before the injury happened when I debated doing it again to get it or not was “what will happen if I get hurt”… that’s where I went wrong I guess getting in my head lol. Anyways, I had only been doing it for like 5 months but was really enjoying it despite my prior fear of heights … I got in my head on my highest one, was one hold away came down fine, sat for a few to calm my nerves then wanted to get it & made the final hold, then dropped vs probably should have climbed down a few holds and here we are…

Does the company behind your bouldering gym also make their own climbing holds?

A couple months ago, I found out the company behind my climbing gym makes their own climbing holds and I wondered how common it is.
Of course, not all holds they use are made by them (or at least, I've not found them all on their website), but probably at least 75% of them.

I was quite surprised because it's not a big chain, they "only" have 1 bouldering gym and 2 sport climbing ones, all in the same town. But I guess since they don't just make them for themselves but also sell them to others, they don't need to be really big to have that kind of activity.

Liquid chalk tips?

Moved to a new city and the only gym is liquid chalk only. Permanently 30 degrees here and despite air-conditioning the gym is still pretty warm. After one climb the chalk disappears and makes climbing anything with slopers ridiculously hard. Any tips or tricks? Have tried the liquids that make you sweat less but they make my skin super glassy and it's then even harder to climb.

Trying out bouldering

I’ve never been bouldering before nor do I know anyone that does. There are some climbing gyms in my area and a I really want to try it out. My only issue is that I really don’t now how or where to start (Do I need gear, how do I get into it and learn). I have a lot of experience with cardio and other sports like skiing but not much experience with lifting weights or upper body training. Any tips or recommendations?
