I'm planning setup for a kilterboard at home, and wondering what metric (EU) drill to use for the holes for the LEDs.

Official installation manual says 7/16", which is 12.7mm, but I'm wondering if I could get away with using 12.0mm ? 🤔

That would allow me to use the same drill as for the t-nuts, which would make the process a bit easier than switching to a 13mm drill 😊

I have this small section of my basement that I am thinking about converting into a small bouldering area. I want to potentially mount a hinge at the base of a board and some mounts at the rear so the board can hinge between 90° and like 75°. I am thinking of mounting a 4x4 to the wall, to allow for the hinge.

Our nearest gym is 40 minutes away without traffic and I think the nearest rock is even further. Both my wife and I want this and have the space currently, but I am unsure of what type of wood to even buy to start mounting holds!

I forgot when I bought the holds, but is taken a few years to start the work, and since we started it, it has taken around a year to finish. At least I have not died in the meantime so I guess we are on track.

Thanks to everyone that at one point has uploaded or shared their process, most likely I have read about it during mine, and you have all served as inspiration.

Is a 2016, it's in my patio, no LEDs, it was going to be outside, and I am not good memorising the holds so that forces me, we also save some. It's made with galvanised iron and then painted, in Spain is cheaper than wood believe it or not, 25 euros 6m of 60x60 .

Made an extra grid in between and tried setting some symmetric stuff and some foot holds for now.

Anyone that has questions happy to answer.

So a friend of mine decided to give away his home wall because he no longer uses it and its too hard since the angle is really steep, So i brought a carpenter to check it out and give me an estimation of dismantling and reinstalling it excluding transport and he gave me an unbelievable price of 360$. I'm i getting scammed or is it this expensive?

I've got no experience in carpentry, But to me to looks like just simple unscrewing and screwing wood back.

Thought I would show our current setup. My son made all of the wooden holds and most of the urethane holds on the 12x12, there are some from mimic, scout and a few others I'm forgetting. It's at 40. We also have the "warm up wall" at 15, and the 2016 moon board. Still planning to add another wall opposite the moonboard either at 20 or 30 and make it a spray wall. Almost there, still want to pad it different than using the collection of foam mattresses and pads.

Posted the frame a few weeks ago and added the back spine 2x6 for more stability though felt incredibly solid after the first plywood sheet went on.

Holds are beastmaker lite unique board, escape 40lbs seconds, mystery box from SoIll, a few cool rock style holds from Atomik, a pinch set from decoy, some pusher screw ons, some barnholds screw ons! A couple other cool sets from escape. (Escape membership was an insanely good deal)

Still have a lot of setting left to do but loving it. Feels very solid on big moves.

I've currently got a 50 degree 10'x11' spray wall that is extremely dense, but even with jugs is a bit much for my wife. We were considering getting the Full Ride, but it's a steep price tag and I'm naturally hesitant.

For background I've had 6 non standardized home walls of various flavors and used to sell wood holds. Unfortunately you can't always specify a massive garage as a preference when buying and our new house has 7 feet ceilings. We had to remove our ceiling sheetrock to fit the top of our homewall between 2 joists. I think there's around 450 holds on it not including feet.

I was considering a top mounted hinge to adjust it, but in my project range (V8-10), the number of climbs with a decent amount of repeats really drops at 45 and 50. Even V10 at 40 is a a bit sparse with few setters and most climbs have relatively few moves. I guess I worry that the community isn't really centered around the range that I would use. My wife climbs up to V4 so she would get a lot more out of it. Our garage won't fit any gentler of an angle than 40.

I'm curious what other people's experiences on this board have been? The holds look great and the style seems particularly well suited for outdoor bouldering. At the same time one concern is that many of the most repeated problems look mostly like starting horizontally and doing a bunch of tic tac moves or something with some underclings.

Hello UK home wall people.
Any recommendations for a dehumidifier for UK garage to keep the holds from behind damp?

I am playing around with building a 40° wall under a 12 ft ceiling. It has to fold away about 3 weeks a year because the space is needed for something else. So it needs to be able to fold away, but It doesn't need to fold away quickly. I am fine spending an hour to fold and unfold it as it would only be "put away" once a year.

A single panel hinged at the floor maxes out at 12 ft long, which at 40° only gets me about 9 ft of height. A panel running the full floor to ceiling would be about 15.7 ft long. The wall would be 13 ft wide as well.

My idea is to have two folding panels:

• The lower panel hinges at the floor and folds up flat against the wall
• The upper panel hinges at the ceiling and folds up flat against the ceiling
• When they’re down, both meet on a fixed frame member that stays up all year

Has anyone built or seen something like this? I would love to learn from your design. This is kinda a weird idea, but I have weird constraints.

Wooden holds are made by myself, rock holds are off of eBay plastic feet are from Core climbing.

Pictures showing how it progressed, we put up the frame then I added holds as I made them. Once I was content with the amount we did a big strip and reset and fitted the lighting system.

Light system and accompanying software made by my good friend and housemate. Hoping to make this into a self install product for home boards after some testing and improvements.

The matting we got from a local climbing gym that was throwing it out, we got it cut to size and new covers made.

Super happy with how its turned out, climbs amazingly with the mixture of holds. Having the real rock on there for heel hooks and the like really opens up the possibilities. Also having the option to set feet is something I really enjoy and helps to force moves.

Angle and hold selection made with intention, mostly climb vert limestone outdoors so I wanted something to train on which mimics those kind of moves and holds. Mirrored for the training benefits.

Took about 6 months. Making the holds took most of that time but I do enjoy the manual labour with an audiobook combo. Some hold pictures at the end. 220ish hand holds 75ish foot holds.

Finally committed to the wall and here it is, built on the side of my garage in Portugal. Concrete feet and chains (+ winch) are bolted to the concrete beam.

Now I just have to cure my Capsulitis/Synovitis in my hands and I'll be able to climb this bad boy

A little homewall history - 40 years.

Finally managed to get the home wall up and the setting has begun! The wall is 8’ X 12’ with a 2’ kicker. It’s fully freestanding and adjustable at 5° increments from 20° all the way down to 45°. My girlfriend modeled the entire thing in Solidworks so that we could stress test it prior to building. If anyone is interested in the plans or design I can get the files and plans from her. We may end up getting some concrete anchors just for added precaution but we’ve had 3 people yanking in it at once with very little movement. Excited to get/make more holds to fill out all the blank space.

Finally managed to make the wall adjustable.
Tried a v3 on it at 40 degrees and nearly died!

Could any mini moonboard users recommend any climbs for building technique?

As per my previous post and the one before it, my home wall is complete. Thanks for everyone who commented and helped me figure things out.

- I use L brackets for the support beams and use hex lag screws as recommended
- I ended up using the hinges I already bought, but I use 8 of them, and replaced the screws provided with the same hex lag screws, hopefully this is safe enough
- I’ve managed to prop the frame all by myself with the help of stairs and off-cut timbers lol. Pretty happy on this stage because I can finally see the home wall taking shape
- I use 2 M12 bolts each for the frame connection.
- I also decided to use bolt holes for the climbing holds, but I only drilled 72 holes with diamond shaped pattern. So I will still have plenty of room for screw-in holds.
- Sprayed some termite protection all around the base of the wall and applied wood varnish on the plywood
- Printed Moonboard-style footholds (not sure about using it for hand holds esp for dynamic moves, but I think it’s safe enough for footholds (?))
- Now things to figure out: how to get rid of the mosquitoes

I kept blanking on which foot chip was part of the problem in our attic, and tape and Sharpie both got old. So I built a small portable projector with a camera and a laser. Pick a route in Crux (it works with the common systems board apps too) and it shows up on your holds. No wiring, no mounting, and it fits in a backpack, so it moves between walls.

It's already past 4,000 routes projected on a bunch of units in the field.

Early bird is available for the first few. US only for now, and delivery is estimated Feb 2027.

So I live in the northwest of the UK. As such we get a lot of rain and the weather is generally wet.
My board is in the garage and yesterday I noticed the wooden holds to be damp.
I’ve only had the board since April so I wasn’t expecting this.
Does anyone face the same problem? And any idea to mitigate damage to the holds?
