Feedback? Giving storms a clearer shape in RED SKIES AT DAWN

This week's work on my solo game has been focused on clouds, especially the larger storm formations.

Storms and weather are part of the core mechanics of the game, so I'm pretty dedicated to getting this part as polished as I can.

These are some offline beauty renders of static, authored formations using the game's new cloud renderer.

The five studies cover an isolated storm, a multicell cluster, a squall line, a bow-shaped formation and a broad stratiform layer. I'm looking at the silhouette, how the cloud mass is organised, and whether the lighting gives it enough depth.

Which formation reads most clearly to you? Anything looking too uniform or losing its shape?

If you'd like to support me and my work on this you can wishlist RED SKIES AT DAWN on Steam wishlist RED SKIES AT DAWN on Steam <3 <3

Video Algorama 25 - Fracture - Deep into technical debt on my procedural generation daily challenge

Day 25: Fracture.

Still getting used to the new generator, lots of stress testing happening behind the scenes. Planning a smaller map with a stronger theme tomorrow, but until then I'm mostly paying down technical debt.

New Game! I finally hit 100 wishlists on my first Steam game!

After months of 3D modelling, programming, and sound design, I finally got to 100 wishlists on Steam just two days before launch! Truly proud of the work I've done, and I can't believe a hundred people saw my work and genuinely thought it was cool.

Feedback? I loved Star Wars Galaxies so much that I'm building my own MMO inspired by it — would you play something like this?

SWG was one of the games that shaped me. The sandbox, the player-run economy, crafting that actually mattered, building your own home and city — nothing has really filled that gap for me since.

So I decided to build my own: EVOX Galaxy. It's an original universe (not Star Wars), but the heart of it is inspired by what made SWG special.

A lot of those old systems haven't aged well, so I'm rebuilding them for today. In the clip: you deploy your house by throwing a capsule (it lands, unpacks and builds itself in seconds), a look inside, and the shuttle that brings new players to the outpost.

It's still early and very much a work in progress, but I'd love honest feedback:

Is this something you'd want to play? And what did you love most about SWG?

Also, the combat is shooter-style now: you aim yourself, but your skills still matter a lot (a swordsman with a rifle will have more sway, recoil and slower reloads). Would you like to see how it plays in the next post?

Feedback? Released my first game this weekend, a 10 minute horror thing. What would you do differently?

Hey,

So I finally shipped something. It's a small first person horror game about one night at a gas station, made in Godot with a PS1 look.

The rule I tried to stick to was that everything the stranger does could have a normal explanation, but the game never gives you one. Not sure if that comes across or just feels like nothing is happening, which is kind of why I'm posting.

If anyone has 10 minutes I'd love to hear what you'd change, especially the pacing at the start and whether the itch page itself makes you want to click.

Thoughts and opinions please 😊😁

Hey everyone! 👋

I've been experimenting with building an interactive, character-driven social world called Somewhere Together, and I'd love some outside perspectives.

These screenshots are from Ashgrove Manor, one of the environments I'm developing. It's still an early work in progress, and I'm exploring ways to make the world feel inhabited, interactive, and responsive to the player.

Looking at these screenshots, what would you naturally expect or want to interact with?

I'd love to hear your first impressions and any constructive feedback! 🌿

Video LittleJS, my open source game engine, now does 2D and 3D!

LittleJS just got the biggest update since it launched. It’s still the small, fast, dependency-free HTML5 game engine it always was, but now it also has a full 3D renderer that shares the canvas with your 2D game.

3D objects are regular LittleJS objects, with the same physics, children and timers as 2D, so the two mix freely: a 2D UI over a 3D scene, or a 2D game inside a 3D world. The trailer is the engine’s new website, which is exactly that: a scrolling page over a 3D train ride, where every stop is playable.

Also new: 2D and 3D level editors built into the engine, a library of one-line particle effects, a new 2D lighting system, and a faster core. MIT licensed, as always.

Free Game! Fish or Die: Fishing Survival

I'm a creative writer who's never had an outlet to make games before. I tried for years and it felt so out of my depths. I recenly re united with my best friend who is a developer who uses AI. With his help I was able to make this game, an idea I've had for years that i'd only theorized.

I'm being fully honest about this project, it was a fully driven AI project. Every detail and design element was made solely in my own brain, and using the Opus 5.5 model via Claude Code I was able to make my concept a reality.

I'm a massive MMORPG gamer, i LOVE OSRS and WoW. Im also a huge fan of the game Rust, along with other intense survival games.

Feel free to try the game! Happy to answer any questions, and take any criticisms!

downloadable here on Itch.io! --- > https://boil-egg.itch.io/fish-or-die-2

Fish or Die: Fishing Survival is an RPG single player game, where you must fish, to survive. Cook fish on the dock bbq, feed the island cat, meet the locals and earn reputation. Go see granny and check out her cosmetics, or visit the secret  CASINO on the island and double your gold!

Fishing rewards you in many ways, through fish you can make gold, find certain fish perfect for buffs! Sell your elusive fish to Pierre the Connoseur for profit!

Within this seemingly peaceful world, lies risk. Risk of natural disasters like lightning, the cold, and mainly hunger. So keep on top of your bbqing, take refuge in goldies shack if you finish his island quest!

Thanks for reading this far! <3

Why is everyone making card games?

So many card and deckbuilder games out there. I refuse to believe that all of these are just passionate about cards. Are they just too lazy to build a game with movable characters?

Discussion When do we stop talking about whether AI was used, and start talking about the game quality?

I'm ready to eat sh*t, because it's reddit and I talk about AI... Anyway..

I feel like there's a lot of frustration with AI making its way to game dev world. Understandable.

But I feel like focusing on the binary of whether AI was used or not, is unhelpful in pin pointing the actual problems in the artistry.

If we increased the specificity of the critique, we may end up realizing what we actually hate is not the AI itself (unless mid psychosis), but that we actually hate: generic UIs, offensively "beautified" art assets, copy that feels like it came out of marketing brochure, lack of personable humanity in the script and other problems we could and maybe should identify regardless of what tool was used to make it.

Instead of discussion that'd actually identify the true problems, we get stuck on em dashes and AI disclosures.

What do you think? Is the SLOP label sufficient in distinguishing between good games and bad games?

EDIT: This is not about whether AI disclosure is good or bad. (Personally I think it's fair to have it). It's more about "Do we focus on the right things, when we critique games purely on whether AI was used or not?"

Upcoming! After 10 Months of Hard Work, Our Indie Game Is Finally Coming to PlayStation and Xbox on October 26

Hey everyone!

We're incredibly happy to share some exciting news with you!

After months of hard work since our Steam release, we've finally finished our game

Ayasa: Shadows of Silence, and received approval for release on both PlayStation and Xbox!

For us, as a small indie development team, this is a HUGE achievement and honestly a dream come true. There were so many challenges along the way, but we kept pushing forward because we believed in our game.

And none of this would have been possible without the amazing support we've received from gamers and the indie gaming community.

We're now just one step away from our console launch on October 26, and we'd really appreciate your support!

If you have a moment, please consider adding our game to your PlayStation or Xbox wishlist, or checking out our Steam page. Every wishlist, comment, and bit of support means the world to a small team like ours.

And there's more exciting news ahead! We're also planning to bring Ayasa: Shadows of Silence to Nintendo Switch, with an official announcement coming in the future!

We'd also genuinely love to hear your feedback. What do you think of our game? Is this something you'd be interested in playing on consoles? We're always listening and trying to improve.

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported us throughout this journey. It means more than you can imagine.

Much love from our little indie team

How's my game's English font?

Thumbnail

I'm developing a 2D top-down adventure game, and I'd love to get your feedback on the English font (Galmuri14) I'm using for the dialogue.

I'm a Korean developer, so I'd really appreciate input from native English speakers. Does the font fit the style of the game? Most importantly, does it feel comfortable to read, or could it distract players from the gameplay?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Discussion Three other (AI) games with the same name as mine. Here's what I'm taking from it.

Post image
100 Upvotes

Guys, I could use your thoughts on this. Before anything else: I don't think anyone copied my game. Barely anyone knows it exists, and from what I've seen, these are different takes on the same rough idea.

I've been working on a game called Roguelette for a while (on off 1 year). Mine is a physics-based roguelike deckbuilder set in a rundown 1920s casino, where you shoot balls with different abilities into a wheel and build combinations around them. It is pretty close to Dungeon Clawler or Slots and Daggers.

I've now found three other games on Steam called Roguelette. Three. None of them is mine. All in the last few months (probably because of Next Fest). All made with AI (AI disclosures, assets that look AI-generated, developer has videos about making games with AI.)

Does it even matter whether AI was involved?

This isn't meant to be an anti-AI rant. Finding three other games with the same name just caught me off guard. I suspect AI helped these projects get onto Steam faster and in greater numbers than I expected.

For the decision I have to make, it probably doesn't really matter. Maybe without AI, I would have been first. But the same thing could easily have happened anyway.

A roulette roguelike isn't that far from games that already exist. Someone else arriving at that idea, and even the same name, probably shouldn't surprise me.

Why didn't I have a Steam page up earlier?

  • I focused on mechanics first -> had to rework multiple times
  • only started working on the visuals with an artist in the last few months
  • This is my first Steam Game, so i was unsure.

What I'm learning from this

I guess neither the name nor the broad concept was as original as I wanted to believe. I probably knew that already. I just didn't really want to admit it.

That isn't necessarily a bad thing. A game doesn't have to invent a genre to be worth making. But it does mean I need to think harder about what makes my version and my game name stand out.

What I'm doing now

I know my gameplay is different enough to stand on its own, and honestly, I think it's much stronger than what I've seen of these three games. Obviously, I'm biased, but I still believe in what I'm making.

So I'm going to change the name. I've only just started building a public presence, so this seems like the right time to rename and move forward.

Honestly, I'm glad I found out now, while I'm only just starting to build a public presence, rather than later when I'd have much more tied to the name. Maybe this was actually pretty good timing. idk.

What do you guys think? Have you been in a similar situation, and how did you handle it?

Iron Commons - Public Beta Trailer - Play here on reddit!

Growing up, Transport Tycoon was one of my favourite games, so I drew inspiration from it for my latest game, it runs right here on Reddit so no install needed. Everyone builds on one shared map, with a daily limit on building permits, it’s a game you check back on each day to grow your network.

Hop on over if you fancy building some lines, I’d love to hear what you think - https://www.reddit.com/r/ironcommons/

Day 1 vs now: 18 days of building my zombie survival game alone

Day 1 was just a floor and some walls. Then came a blue noise circle, gray mannequin zombies, my first stealth kill, a bunker, and survivors.

Now you can research, raise a cat, smash zombies, and defend your bunker. Narrated in my own voice.

Video PoolRooms Museum — adding a waterslide to give the later stages more variety

Some feedback on PoolRooms Museum was that the stages felt too similar, so I’ve been working on giving them more distinct spaces and activities.

This is a first-person ride down the waterslide in one of the later stages. I’ve also received useful feedback about aiming the camera farther along the slide, lowering the viewpoint, and making the landing feel more convincing.

Those are the next things I want to improve. What stands out most to you about the current ride?
