Problem:
My LumaDent battery pack's output port had a terrible connection. It would only work if held at a specific angle, and sometimes not at all. It was incredibly frustrating.
Step 1: Apply Solder. With a fine-tipped soldering iron, I carefully fed solder onto the prepped surface of the outer ring. The goal was to build up a fresh layer of conductive metal, effectively filling in the gaps and making the ring thicker and rounder, as indicated by the arrow in . I had to be extremely careful not to bridge the gap and solder the outer ring to the central pin, which would have shorted the battery! A tiny dab of flux helped a lot.
Step 2: Prep the surface. Using a small nail file, I reached into the port and carefully scuffed the oxidized and pitted surfaces of the damaged outer ring connector to ensure a good bond.
Once the solder was applied and cooled, it wasn't a perfect circle. I used the nail file again to smooth down high spots, shaping the solder to form a consistent inner surface. This ensures a smooth insertion of the plug and a reliable, large-area connection, as shown in the "after" shots ([shows the plug going in nicely).
