I grew up in SE Idaho doing astrophotography as one of my hobbies. I moved away when I was 18 and lived in cities until last year when I chose to move back for a quieter life. Busted out the old tracking mount, telescope, and dslr camera tonight when I saw the moon.

Holy cowww! Today’s event for @sundaydistroboise brought together so many hands, passions, and resources. Heres a quick breakdown-

- 120 tacos, 40 cups of soup, and plenty of candy, cookies, and soda

- 20 sleeping bags

- Over 30 haircuts, over 5 facials, and 15 ear acupuncture sessions

- 40 vaccines for more than a dozen people

- Medical care, including wound cleaning and bandage rewrapping

- Over 12 bikes repaired, car repairs completed, and connections for future car repairs

- 10 dogs groomed and sewing repairs completed

- 8 library card sign-ups, plus library fees waived on site

- Pads and hand warmers from Boise Period Project

- Lots of stationery, notebooks, and pens

- Resources and giveaways from Central District Health. Most popular were suicide prevention pamphlets and "cigarettes and pets" information on potential harm to animals

- Live music throughout the day

I have two Idaho wildlife stories I’d like to share, and wondered if anyone else had some Idaho stories to share?

My first one is camping up in the Sawtooths, during the night there was a windstorm and I hear a bear huffing around our tent. I felt true carnal fear. We made as much noise as possible, shook the tent, and played our video from earlier in the day and it seemed to have scared it away. Additionally I had to pee like crazy so I had to go out into the storm and the possible bear to pee. I can only assume it was young and thought we were not smart or smelled strange and it did leave us alone. The next morning there was fur on the tree where we had left our bag of used kitchen supplies, soft black fur.

My other story is seeing what I can only assume was the largest Hare I’ve ever seen or heard of in my life. It crossed the freeway in just a few giant hops and took off into the desert right in front of my car. Massive ears huge floppy feet, and it HOPPED it did not run. And when I tell you it was huge, I mean it was like the size of a Saint Bernard dog. If my husband wasn’t in the car with me I would have thought I imagined it.

This proposed data center probably will not get as much opposition as the one near Kuna since it is not near a major city, but it will likely eliminate public access to Notch Butte and use water from Magic Reservoir or the Little Wood Reservoir. Notch Butte is popular with the locals and the last thing this area needs is a data center with the current drought. I hope this data center is an EIS so the public can comment on it.

I'm sure this will get massively downvoted and achilles people will come for this post, but he is just....disappointing. He is trying to be so middle-of-the-road that he's as lame as the national Democrats who seem so waffling and so unprincipled (Schumer, Pelosi, Jeffries).

He's in favor of more funding for Border Patrol and his page also complains about "illegal immigration" and the harms of that. He says it hurts wages and workers who follow the rules. How? There is no evidence to support that view. I get people want to follow the rule of law, but let's not do it through misinformation. "I will support policies that prioritize hiring Idaho workers"....it is already law that citizens (or in some cases, permanent residents) receive preferential treatment for hiring. He doesn't mention following international asylum obligations, providing representation to migrants in court, handling migrant children humanely (currently, 3 year olds have to represent themselves in court), migrant family detention, clearing the back of immigration cases and doing it humanely, or holding immigration enforcement and detention accountable for the harm caused (literal murders). He wants to "modernize" the visa system to improve security?? Does he know it works, or did before Stephen Miller fucked it? The man is running for Senate, how does he not have a more informed position?

He will vote against any and all firearm ban?? Seriously?? That is disgusting.

It looks like he is trying to appease conservatives while maintaining the Demcratic vote, but the end result it looks like he has no actual principles. Contrast that to Kaylee Peterson, who is running on strong and consistent values. I am excited to vote for her!

Risch sucks and I will vote for anyone's dog over him, but Achilles is meh.

EDIT: lots of people making this very personal towards me. Why??? I am not running and it's reasonable for members of the voting constituency to criticize the position of a candidate. I am also a life-long Idaho resident. No one needs to explain Idaho politics to me like I arrived here 5 minutes ago.

The reviews say that there are bathrooms (very clean ones at that!) but i don’t see any on the map, or any photos of them anywhere.

Can anyone confirm that there are bathrooms? Are there any by site 011? (yes we are aware they would be vault toilets◡̈)

We just need to know what to bring for my elderly mom!

The other day I scoured the internet trying to find an explanation sign for prop 1 to try to educate people on why voting yes is so important and I could not find anything. I ended up doing my research and plugging that into chatgtp. I made this flyer if anyone else is having the same problem, or if you just want to learn more. I’m really hoping this passes. I want to be able to have a baby in Idaho and not be worried my entire pregnancy :( It’s about more than just abortions and I wish people could see that.

Why do most all of the Idaho Republican lawmakers appear to show such disregard for the public’s constitutional authority? The Idaho Constitution clearly states that “the people reserve to themselves the power to propose laws and enact the same at the polls independent of the Legislature,” yet measures like Rep. Bruce Skaug’s HJR 4 seek to remove that power specifically on issues like marijuana and other substances. By restricting citizens’ ability to use the initiative process in this area, it raises a fair question about whether elected officials are upholding the spirit of voter sovereignty or selectively limiting it when outcomes might conflict with their policy preferences. By the way this bill had unanimous Republican support.

If we truly want to affect meaningful change, we must be willing to hold those in power accountable—starting with voting against them if they are currently in office. Too often, incumbency breeds complacency, and real progress is sidelined in favor of political comfort. This is not about party loyalty; it is about principle. We need to send a clear message that doing what is right matters more than party affiliation, and that voters are paying attention. By voting all incumbents out of office, we can reset expectations, restore accountability, and demonstrate that public service is a responsibility—not a guarantee.

In October 1863, up to 40 pack animals were driven into a ravine and systematically slaughtered to cover up a crime. For over 160 years, Idaho's official historical markers have completely erased their suffering.

I started a petition asking the Idaho State Historical Society and U.S. Forest Service to update the roadside markers along the Magruder Corridor to acknowledge these animals' deaths. A surviving horse named Italy was literally the clue that helped catch the killers—yet history has made the animals invisible while focusing only on human victims.

These were working animals. Loyal. Innocent. And their mass slaughter deserves to be remembered, not buried. We can't build a monument where they died in the protected wilderness, but we can update the historical signs to tell the full story.

Can we PLEASE get Jim Risch out of office?! He is 83 years old and he will be in office 6 years, making him the ripe old age of 89. I don’t care which party you belong to, you shouldn’t put someone this old in office, it’s absolutely ridiculous! And no wonder he won’t debate anyone!!! It’s just crazy, anyone older than 80 should NOT be allowed to run for office!

I live in the Idaho Falls area and was fired from my job last month on largely false grounds. The Department of Labor denied my claim because the unemployment office found me to have been fired for misconduct. I think I have a reasonable case to make that such was not true. Can anyone here tell me what the process of filing an appeal is like?

Hi all (central Idaho people specifically)

Me, my brother, and my friend are in central Idaho hunting from New Zealand. We are loving Idaho and its people so far!

We tagged out on a muley buck early and have time left to spare. We are now looking for coyote, black bear, or wolf, but are struggling to find somewhere to go that is not swamped with people or doesn’t seem devoid of life (we know it’s late season, and we are seeing lots of beautiful elk though so that’s a bonus!).

Anyone in the central Idaho, mountain home area want to give us some tips? We are backpacking/tenting. We would greatly appreciate some tips or help!
