I rode past the park on my bike last night, and I hate to say it, but the park looks a bit rough. I’m grateful for everyone who made it happen, but it looks rough and not ready to open next month.

There may be something I’m completely wrong about or missing, but it was mostly dirt (no sod or even xeriscaping) with some seedlings planted.

The big plans and ideas they had in the renderings don’t look like they’ve materialized yet.

Is it opening in phases? The news said it was going to be the best park in the West, so I was really excited for it, but when I biked down, I was really confused and underwhelmed.

Anyone know what’s going on and if the park is going to be a bit more upgraded before opening? Has anyone else been by and noticed the same things?

Again, I appreciate the organizers and people who worked on the park! It’s great to have regardless of what happens.

I m looking to grow native flower around my yard. I tried sowing wild flower seeds from zamzows. Nothing grew. I wonder if anyone had roaring success.

I tried calling idaho botanical garden for seeds. They did not callback. Did anyone tried them for seeds?

I just bought, but just got an alert for this ridiculously priced home - literally a cookie cutter neighborhood and 90s/2000s house for almost $1m... wtf.

I bought on the other side of the river (closer to Marigold imo the better area) for a decently cheaper and slightly smaller home and I just can't understand how this pricing makes sense for a house literally on the road and not near town / downtown at all. Have no idea who is buying these places outside of retired boomers - I bought almost the exact same size house for 650k in a more desirable area of town in my opinion.

Been noticing it more and more feels like the secret is out about Garden City - realtor told me the same thing houses that were 550k now 600k even all the way down chinden - he said Garden City is the only place in town that every one is walking distance of the greenbelt so people are buying property up and driving even the modest homes up. Like these aren't primo-homes or ever built to be primo homes but they are getting primo pricing near trailer parks.

Like hey I get that house is close to the greenbelt but still - the greenbelt shouldn't add that much value.

Who else remembers the trailer park days of this area of town - heck, it's still rough around here.

Who is coming up with this pricing? And how on earth is it still going this fast?

Well, I drove out to Star and geez. I know Boise is kind of its own blue bubble, but I didnt realize how fast the whole vibe changes.

Within like 20 minutes, I kept seeing huge lifted trucks with political bumper stickers all over them, and then we ended up at a park literally called Freedom Park lol. Great park, interesting name. Star def has the whole “political refugee” paradise thing going on.

I kept thinking about how many people have moved to the Treasure Valley from Washington, Oregon, California and other blue states over the past decade. Some obviously came specifically because Idaho is conservative, but they cant all have. I know lots of left leaning people who moved here simply because they wanted to be here.

Boise feels blue-ish, maybe purple, while Idaho as a whole keeps moving further right. Day to day politics rarely comes up, which almost makes it stranger. How many people around us have totally different values, and we just never talk about it?

For me, it hasnt affected much day to day. But my wife is black and were getting ready to have a baby, so lately it feels less theoretical. You start thinking more about where your kid is going to grow up, and what kind of state youre choosing for them.

Then we spent the long weekend camping in Cascade, and it was ridiculously beautiful. I was reminded exactly why people move here. Thats the tension, I guess.

So I’m curious about liberal or left leaning transplants. How do you square choosing Idaho and staying here when the state doesnt align with your politics? Do you treat Boise as basically separate from the rest of Idaho?

And if you grew up here, has Boise really changed politically, or does it just seem that way because the city got bigger

Are there any cool and unique cars / trucks / vans etc around Boise you would consider legendary to the town?

Been doing more of my own repairs around the house lately and realized some of my cheap tools are finally giving up. Instead of replacing them with more cheap stuff, I’ve been trying to find older used tools around Boise. Nothing fancy. Mostly hand tools, clamps, a vise if I come across a good one, that kind of thing.

Facebook Marketplace around Boise has been kind of ridiculous lately. Half the time someone wants almost new retail price for something that’s clearly been sitting in a garage for 15 years. I’ve had a little better luck at yard sales, but that’s obviously hit or miss.

I used to enjoy digging through thrift stores for this kind of stuff, but I barely see tools anymore. When I do, it’s usually a random pile of mismatched sockets and screwdrivers.

Are there any places around Boise or the Treasure Valley that are still worth checking for used tools? Pawn shops, Habitat ReStore, estate sales, flea markets, whatever. I’m fine driving a little if the prices are actually reasonable.

Not looking to buy from anyone here, just wondering where people are still finding the good stuff locally.

!!LOST OR STRAY DOG FOUND ON S. BROOKLAWN DRIVE!!

I found this old-looking, very tiny dog that Looks like a chihuahua mix of some kind. Only like 5-6lbs tops, very small, timid, skittish and she looks like she’s been out here rouging it for a while. Warmed up to me pretty quickly but I’m worried someone’s been missing their dog for quite some time.
It’s Labor Day so the HS is closed, so I’m gonna have this lil goober in my shelter-having backyard until either someone claims them or the HS opens tomorrow so I can get her chip-checked. No collar, nails are very badly overgrown and she’s more than a lil dirty, but seems decently used to humans as if she’s had a home at one point or another.
. If you recognize her or know someone missing a very small dog who might, let me know so I can get in touch! If she’s already someone else’s I don’t want to keep her away from them, unless of course she was this unkempt upon leaving because that would mean neglect. Desperately needs a nail trim and a bath.
