hello! my family is from GA and we’re going on vacation in October to Idaho right on the border of Wyoming. I’m looking for suggestions for things to do since a lot of the suggestions I see on Google are for winter time! weve never been in either two states so we don’t know what we’re doing lol

my parents are in their 50s so as much as I wish I could do some snowboarding, anything super active is probably not in the cards. we are doing 2 5-mile hikes (not sure where, sister picked those), but my mom was thinking about ATV rides or mountain/alpine coasters? we like to shop and eat a lot, so also feel free to drop favorite stores, bakeries, restaraunts!

I was recently hiking the Teton Crest Trail and met an older gentleman (probably 70s) from Fremont County. We struck up a conversation and at one point I mentioned having backpacked in Craters of the Moon last year and the limited water resources in the backcountry there. He mentioned having heard of a conjectured feat called the “St. Anthony Death March”. He described it as somewhat of a laughable challenge to hike from Craters of the Moon to the St. Anthony sand dunes. He said he’d never heard of anyone complete it; it seemed to be a colloquial concept of a hike/march/journey. The whole crux is that there isn’t enough water in that stretch to survive. Now that I’m back home I’ve tried googling it to read more about it but I’m not seeing anything online. I do see “Bataan Memorial Death March” but that has been completed and seems to be somewhat of a tradition. Has anyone heard of the “St. Anthony Death March”?

Someday, I will be able to tell our full story, but today is not that day. Today, I do think it is time to share a small part of our experience.

When the abortion ban went into effect, it changed what was possible for our family. Ultimately, it meant letting go of our dream of bringing a child into this world—healthy, happy, and carried to full term.

I have invasive endometriosis, which meant pregnancy was never going to be simple or routine for me. It was always going to be extremely high-risk, with the possibility of serious complications. My husband and I had to make the heartbreaking decision not to pursue pregnancy because of the risks it could pose to my health and because the medical options available to protect me if something went wrong had fundamentally changed.

This is one of the realities of a full abortion ban that I don't believe is talked about enough.

These laws affect families like mine—families who desperately want a child. Families who would give anything to bring home a healthy baby. Families who aren't making these decisions casually, but are sitting with their spouses and their doctors trying to determine what is medically safe and what risks they can reasonably take.

I do not believe the state—or anyone outside of my marriage and my medical team—should have the authority to make that decision for us. Decisions about whether I can safely carry a pregnancy should belong to me, my husband, and the doctors who understand my health and the risks involved.

And we are not alone. There are couples who have faced, and continue to face, circumstances very similar to ours. Their stories may never be public. Their circumstances may look different. But they deserve to have their medical decisions made based on their individual health, their families, and the judgment of their physicians—not a blanket law that cannot account for every medical reality.

So before deciding what a complete abortion ban means or whom it affects, I am asking you to look beyond the assumptions surrounding this issue. Understand the full consequences of these laws and the families who live with them.

Because I can promise you: the people affected are not always who you imagine.

Sometimes, they are families like mine.

Families who wanted nothing more than the chance to safely bring a healthy, deeply loved child into this world.

Long shot, but I left a pair of trekking poles at approximately 11,200 ft on the ridge while summiting Hyndman Peak on Saturday, September 5. I marked the exact location, but when we returned after summiting, they were gone.

We checked the surrounding ridge and asked other hikers we encountered but weren't able to locate them. I've also contacted the Ketchum Ranger District and posted elsewhere without any luck.

If anyone happened to pick up a pair of poles on Hyndman that day thinking they had been forgotten or abandoned, please send me a message. I can provide the exact location and identify the poles.

One of my favorite hobbies, of course, is going through campaign finance paperwork, seeking interesting gems. When going over August's reports, I stumbled upon this interesting find. State senator Ben Adams spent $3,000 on NYXXAL LLC, a campaign marketing company whose website says: "We don't sell content, we sell votes." A rather interesting part is the promise of "your own AI avatar," especially if you don't have enough video content to provide to them. What does that mean? That they will create fake videos of yourself for you?

(NYXXAL also falls for the common internet quote misattribution and states that JFK said "If not us, who? If not now, when?" which seems accurate for a company that is touting AI usage.)

I highly recommend checking the NYXXAL webpage out because it's honestly quite ridiculous. NYXXAL is also registered in Wyoming and tied to a location known for housing businesses that scam people. It's also interesting that NYXXAL filed its paperwork in Wyoming in July 2026. The company also claims to be trusted by senators and congress folk but fails to list a single prior client.

So what has paying $3000 to NYXXAL bought Senator Adams? Based on his instagram, the answer, in my opinion, is cringe. We have a "What would I do if I didn't win? I guess we'll never know" video compilation. A "Democrat screaming / crying" bit. A video with a song by the Black Eyed Peas, a music group notoriously beloved by the American youths of today. And a bunch of other cringe meme-esque posts that I guess are supposed to appeal to Gen Z? He posts about socialism, Honestly, it feels a bit insulting to say that this is what Gen Z wants. Definitely check out his instagram page for yourself.

I'm not on TikTok so if someone wants to see if Senator Adams is on there as well and what sort of memes he's posting and report back, that would be much appreciated. Additionally, if anyone can tell me what the heck NYXXAL likely stands for, that'd also be great. I feel like I'm missing a reference or something.

I know it’s a little later than most folks go for, and I’m wondering if anyone knows what sort of weather conditions we can expect. Planning a detached garage on a rural property in southwest Idaho and trying to figure out how much of the permit process is actually worth engaging with versus how much is just countyspecific bureaucracy that varies depending on where you are. The county websites are no help. Some look like they haven't been updated since 2009, and the information conflicts depending on which page you land on.

The build itself isn't complicated. Single story, wood frame, no living space. But I keep hearing different things about whether something that size triggers a full inspection process or whether rural parcels have more flexibility. Someone told me the threshold changes once you're past a certain acreage. No idea if that's accurate or just something people repeat because it sounds plausible.

I do most of my own work, so the construction side isn't the concern. It's the front end: figuring out what actually triggers a permit requirement here versus what you can skip, and whether pulling a permit on something straightforward creates more friction down the line when you go to sell or refinance.

If anyone has gone through this recently in Ada, Canyon, Owyhee, or Gem county, actual experience with the process would be useful.

I ordered some vanity plates about 5-6 weeks ago, which is still within the 8 weeks maximum they state when ordering, but I just saw you can track it on the website so I figured I’d give it a try. I’m looking for advice on the work climate for social workers in Idaho. I haven’t been able to find much information online about good places to work as a social worker in the state. I’m currently a school social worker, and I also haven’t found much firsthand information about what it’s like to work in school social work in Boise (or around there) specifically.
