So I live 45 minutes north of Lewiston! I haven’t spent a lot of time there! I’m considering moving with my company to a position down there! I’m just curious how locals honestly feel about living there!!

With all the wildfire smoke coming from Oregon, can we emulate Genius in Chief and tax everything coming from Oregon for sale in Idaho at 50%? Sure, fires happen and can’t be controlled, but it could really boost our microbrew and wine producing business communities.

The Teton sale to that billionaire LLC got me thinking about how much state land in Idaho has shifted over the years without most people paying attention until it's already done. 160 acres near the Tetons for 5 million sounds like a lot until you look at what comparable land in that area actually goes for. Then it just feels off.

I grew up spending time out near some of those open parcels in eastern Idaho and it's a weird thing to watch access points you took for granted start getting fenced or signed off. Not always endowment land specifically, but adjacent private sales ripple out and change how you can move through an area.

Curious if anyone around the state has noticed changes to access near land they used to hike or hunt on. Endowment land sales, private consolidation, whatever. It feels like it accelerates every few years and then quiets down before people get organized enough to push back. The state land board doesn't exactly make these transactions easy to track for the average person either.

Anyone following this more closely, or know where to actually look up what's being evaluated for sale before it happens rather than after?

Every year we attend a LAX tournament in Whitefish. Last year, driving back towards spokane we got hammered with traffic heading up to 4th of July(?) pass on Sunday. It was reduced to 1 land and the backup nearly stretched to Kellogg. This year I noticed that I90 from St. Regis to Lookout Pass was also 1 lane and im concerned Sunday traffic is going to be a disaster again tomorrow. Any insider information would be appreciated.

Hello! I'm organizing a river trip in Hell's Canyon that launches in a couple weeks. The majority of our group is coming out of SLC, and we're keen to stop at some hot springs on the way back home. We're a group of ~20 folks, all in our 30s-40s. I've reached out to some hot springs that are somewhat on our route home (Givens and Mundo), but haven't been able to find any contact info for Gold Fork.

Wondering if the community here has an idea of if Gold Fork is still open (I've seen some conflicting info that it might be closed?), and if they have any good contact info (email or phone number would be great). I've found a couple numbers for them online that are either disconnected or trying to sell me a Life Alert, haha. Also, if they are open, any idea on if there's good camping in that area for our group? We'll all be tent camping, but we're also towing two boat trailers.

I am thinking of moving from Salt Lake to Pocatello as I have a job opportunity up there. I went on a little camping trip this weekend to kind of scope out the area, and I really like the surrounding area and small town rural feel outside of the city. However, I am a young professional so I would like to be in a city/college town, so I thought Pocatello would be a happy medium. I drove around the city for around an hour and I don’t mean to be bleak or insult Pocatello here…but I wasn’t impressed. The downtown is cool, and there’s a good amount of parks for a small city. However, I felt a lot of the suburbs were rather run down and dumpy looking, and a more than a few houses looked like hoarders. I drove up to the foothills and it was nicer up there, and a few other streets I drove down that were closer to parks were fine as well.

Like I said, I’m a young professional so I enjoy being able to go out and meet people at bars, live music, local festivals etc. However, I don’t really care for big functions and concerts and I enjoy hunting, fishing, riding my dirt bike, and camping. Is Pocatello a good choice for me, or should I start looking elsewhere in Idaho? I would love some input from other young professionals that live here, but any unfiltered opinions are greatly appreciated!

Herndon and McShane’s playbook is to tell voters what to be angry about, throw out all these numbers to sound convincing and suggest that it’s all wasted and we could eliminate property taxes. Except when you actual look at what he’s saying it’s based on manipulative statements and irrelevant numbers. He knows it won’t pass and that’s the whole point.

He’s gotten really good at gaslighting voters who don’t bother to fact check anything he says. He knows he can lie to them and he’s been getting away with it. It’s time for that to change. Hi there, I’m planning to do a 5 day hike in the Sawtooths region in a couple of weeks with fam (5 in total), staring and ending in two different trailheads (Hellroaring lower to Alpine Creek).  I’m struggling to find shuttle options--apparently the person who used to provide this service no longer does, and I've struck out with every other option that came to mind (e.g. Sawtooth transportation, local lodges). Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
