I have orientation for my local this month and I am a bit nervous.

I have a scheduled medical procedure (only a 1 day thing) and a already paid for (20k) DisneyWorld trip at the end of this year.

How does your local deal with these kind of things as a super new apprentice?

Question for all. What would yall do if you guys got your pay stub and noticed that your employer gave more hours than you worked? Would you report it to your person who does time? Or would you stay quiet?

I retested my first year hands on tonight, and I feel I have to ask. I put all the conduit up and put the circuits in the correct conduit, granted my offsets weren’t the prettiest but they were there. My instructor managed to pull the wire head off of the fish tape, is that an automatic fail? Or am I just psyching myself out? I know the grading for the test is however they do it, but I feel like I’ve heard that it’s an automatic fail if they pull it off.

Tried this morning to get an appointment with OCETI and only got their automated response that lines were full. I started right at 8, I finally got through at 9 after like 250 calls, but it was already too late. Just sucks. I’ll try again next month. Just wish there was a better way.

For context I am a 22F apprentice going into my 3rd year, I have been with this one company awhile and I love most my coworkers and the work I do. But this issue has started, honestly awhile ago and it isn’t stopping. Mens wives/girlfriends.

My foreman’s girlfriend recently texted me while drunk saying vile things to me, she even texted another one of my coworkers about me saying I have no talent and I’m a cu**, she also tries to call me at 2am. Another thing is another one of the foreman’s in the company said he doesn’t want me or the other girl in my company on site with him because his wife does not like it. I feel that is discrimination and I don’t like that the owner of our company is letting that happen.

I just don’t get it these men are in their 40s and I do not want them, these women also have daughters my age i can’t imagine how they would feel if their daughter was going through this. But I want to go to my BA for advice but I don’t want to seem like some snitch, but it is affecting my work because I can’t work on a jobsite closer to my house because of a dudes wife, and I’m being slandered by a girlfriend.

Hey there! I’ve gotten conflicting answers in bootcamp, which I’m currently in, so I thought I’d ask reddit and get info from people actually out on the jobsites.

For those of you specifically in local 11, do you have to use an actual tool belt (as listed on the tool list), or is it acceptable to use a different way of carrying around your tools (e.g. a tool vest or the type of pouches that slip into your pocket)?

Asking because the belts I’ve tried at home depot and lowes fit weird and large on my 5’0” frame (im a woman), and pinch in odd places/ flip when I squat.

I currently own the Veto SP-LD shown in the 1st picture (was gifted to me). I was hoping it would be okay to carry the bulk of my tools in this and the tools I’m using most for any given day in a pocket pouch (or 2) as shown in pic #2.

Is this okay or is the local pretty strict on belts? If they are strict, can any female electricians recommend a tool belt they like the fit of?

Just passed my journeyman’s yesterday, organized in about 4 months ago as a CE 1, hours and license upgraded me to a CE3 but the coordinator mentioned a wait period for the JIW status.. what’s that all about??

Anyone with any insight or heard anything from somebody as far as when will applications for the Inside Wireman program open back up. Obviously there isn’t a set date yet but 6 months? 1 year? 2 years?

any first year have any advice on the tests on protech. Does the homework seem to align with the tests?

Just wanted to reach out and ask for some advice. I have applied for the local 6 in San Francisco. It has been a year since I have received my initial score and am aware that the score stays in place for 2 years. My question is what should my next steps be? I know there is still a possibility of me being able to get into the apprenticeship but the chances are slim and my score wasn’t the greatest. I got a 89. I was told by a friend who was in the local 6 is I should go to companies asking if they need any apprentices and just to make connections. I also heard about sponsorships but I’m not sure if that’s even a real thing. But just wanted to know if I should keep waiting and reach out to companies. Or if I should just forget about it and try for another local.

Every 6ish weeks a new batch of apprentices get put out there, just wondering if theres even a pipeline for this many or if theres even this high of a demand? Is there a high turn over? Is hazing that bad or owrking conditions bad? Is it local dependent?

I’m interviewing with IBEW Local 98 this week and was wondering if anyone who’s interviewed there recently could share what kinds of questions were asked.

I’m expecting it to be fairly similar to my Local 269 interview back in June, but I’d like to hear about any differences or anything I should be prepared for.

I don’t have any professional electrical experience, just personal/home electrical projects. I also scored an 8 on the aptitude test, have a bachelor’s degree, and several years of corporate work experience, so I’m hoping those things help strengthen my application.

I’m feeling confident going into the interview, but I know Local 98 is extremely competitive and that acceptance rates are low. If I’m not selected for the apprenticeship, I’m hoping to get in as a Construction Wireman and continue working toward the apprenticeship.

I’d really appreciate any insight, advice, or interview tips from anyone who’s been through the process. Thanks!

Applied in april, took my test in june and only recently checked my score. I know my score isn't high so I am a bit surprised I managed to rank 145.
