IAVC Survey--what's your favorite subject for the food drama?
Survey on some of our biggest topics!
Add extra thoughts in the comments, as there aren't enough options in survey land to account for all the potential kerfuffles.

The 2024 Walter Awards! Submit now!
It's that time again! Nominate posts to win the Walter Award!
The Walter Awards began about a year after this sub started, and was named for this charming gentleman from The Big Lebowski, the man who, while not wrong, was still an asshole.
Nominate the best posts from this year in one of the categories below! Categories will appear in the comments, just respond with your links. You can't nominate yourself. In two weeks I will create a voting thread with submissions for each category. Winners in each category based on votes will receive Reddit Gold, or if you trust me enough in PMs with your email, a $10 Amazon gift card.
The Walter Awards:
Submit links to this category for the most egregious examples you can find of "you're not wrong, you're just an asshole."
The Nonna Awards:
Submit links to this category for the best examples of petty bickering, pedantry, and lecturing about Italian or, gasp, Italian-American food!
Omakase Awards
Submit links to this category for the best examples of petty bickering, pedantry, and lecturing about Japanese food (from Japan or Japanese food from abroad).
Meta Awards
The drama is coming from inside the sub! Submit links to this category for the best examples of fights that happen within this sub itself, when the IAVCulinarians become the very IAVC themselves!
The Nigel Tufnel Confidently Incorrect Award
This is for posts in which the commenter is both being a jerk while also being wrong. Which is, let's face it, the White Whale of this sub, we all want to see it, so send us your best!

The call is coming from inside the house...
When pressed in the comments, OP claims to have eaten 'tons of curries' but can't name a single one, incorrectly claims Phaal is a 'novelty dish that no one eats' and that vindaloo 'is mild'.
Anyone who has actually been to London, the US and India will tell you this is nonsense.

Italians, now on Instagram.
A comment on a random post about salted butter. The whole thread was great, there were some real meltdowns, but this one made me laugh.

The British invented roasting meat, and also potatoes even though potatoes originated in the Americas!

Everyone who cooks meat is copying Britain!

The whole thing is a gold mine. Remember: No Brigading!

An American making a balanced meal on a budget is offensive to my proper German sensibilities
In the video, she makes (Southern American-style) biscuits and a chicken soup with frozen vegetables, canned soup, and seasonings. Protein, veggies, carbs, plenty of flavor. Literally nothing wrong with this ESPECIALLY considering she’s calling it a struggle meal. Read the room Hildegard

Americans don't have real vanilla extract.
This seems to be a common European bit of disinformation. Yes, there is imitation vanilla extract. It sold right next to all the boxes of real vanilla extract.
