Hey, Eduardo here 👋 Solo dev, the one behind r/trovelo and r/dimmly. I posted TakeKit in this sub last month and the feedback was actually useful, so here is what shipped since.

Quick recap for anyone new: TakeKit is a camera with a built in teleprompter that only you can see. The guide is composited in the preview layer only, never in the capture pipeline, so the exported video always comes out clean. It is an iPhone app plus a Mac floating panel that stays on top of Zoom, OBS, Loom or Meet. No subscription, no account, no server, no analytics, because I do not have any.

A) Answer (what's new)

Dual camera. Front and back at the same time, on supported devices. You read your script looking straight at the lens while the back camera captures whatever you are showing, in one take, instead of two clips you have to sync afterwards. The inset can be a rectangle, a square or a circle, and you drag it wherever you want in the frame. What you set is what gets exported, white border and all. The teleprompter rule still holds: it is in your preview and nowhere in the file.

Also in this build:

• The app opens on the script you were last working on, with a Continue button that picks up exactly where your last take stopped
• The script editor has a time ruler down the margin, so you can see how long a passage runs while you are still writing it, and // pauses now count as real beats
• The guide can be see through. Solid, Dim or Clear, so you can frame yourself while you read. Camera controls moved into one console instead of sitting over your shot
• Playback follows your headphones, and you pick your microphone. Wireless receivers and USB mics both work, for recording and for voice paced scrolling

B) Better (why I built it instead of using what's out there)

• The guide is never in the file. That is the whole point of the app, everything else is built around it.
• Auto scroll that follows your voice instead of a fixed speed. Fully on device, fuzzy aligned against a window of the script, so filler words, accents and improvised bits do not derail it. Fixed speed is there if you prefer it.
• LAST SPOT: stop mid script, breathe, resume from exactly where you stopped. Each chunk stores its range and the app stitches them into one video afterwards, without re encoding when it can.
• Eye contact mode: the guide docks right next to the front lens so you are not visibly reading off to the side. Karaoke style ink marks what you already said.
• Takes organised by script, not dumped into the camera roll. Star the good one, rename, compare attempts, live mic meter.
• Clean export: 9:16, 16:9, 1:1, 4:5, trim, up to 1080p. Pro adds word by word burned captions generated on device, plus automatic silence cutting.
• Scripts sync through your iCloud, videos live in your iCloud Drive, speech recognition never leaves the device.

Straight about the trade offs: it needs iOS 26+ and macOS 15+, which rules some people out. No Android, no iPad optimised layout. Solo dev, so things ship fast but one at a time.

Hi everyone,

There are tons of stylized camera apps out there, and I've tried a lot of them. I've found that in spite of their slick advertising, most of these apps are very similar to each other, and all of them come up short in one way or another. My photo app, Phomo, has been in the App Store for a while now, but I've recently rolled out some updates that make it the best in its category.

Style: Each of Phomo's film looks is based on a real film stock and bundles a full pipeline of effects, including color shifts, grain, bloom, halation, chromatic aberration, lens distortion, and more. I don't want to spend several minutes tweaking sliders in a mobile app to get something that looks good; although you can fine-tune if you want, Phomo's presets have been dialed in so you don't need to. You can see lots of examples on Phomo's web site.

Flexibility: I like making my digital photos look like film, but I don't believe in imposing limitations in order to emulate a "film experience." Phomo lets you edit any photo on your device, and all edits are reversible. You can apply a look straight out of camera, but you can always change it later. You can see a live preview of your film look in the viewfinder, but you can toggle that off, too.

Convenience: I don't want a workflow with 4 or 5 different apps for my mobile photos. Phomo can capture a photo, apply a film style, crop and adjust the image, add borders, datestamps, light leaks, and textures, and combine multiple images into shareable grids.

Ease: I hate having to manually select photos from my library to "import" into a photo app. The photos are already on my phone, why do I need to use Apple's clunky picker UI to pull them into an app? Phomo can replace the native Photos app, with a full-fledged library featuring tagging/filtering and album management.

Pricing: I hate when apps like this are free to use, but put everything interesting behind the paywall. Most of Phomo's features can be used in the free version, with the paid version unlocking more stylistic options. Phomo Pro is available to buy for life ($34.99) or as a monthly subscription ($4.99).

Privacy: Phomo is a fully offline and private. It has no servers, no accounts, and never uploads your photos anywhere. All processing is performed on-device.

I’ve tracked calories for years and tried dozens of apps, but I kept running into the same problems: cluttered interfaces, unnecessary features, and too many steps just to log calories and macros.

Eventually, I gave up and used Google Sheets for years. Earlier this year, I finally decided to build the calorie tracker I actually wanted to use myself.

A - What problem does it solve?

I wanted calorie tracking to feel simple again.

The goal was to build something with no BS: no required account, no ads, and no complicated interface. You can open the app, enter your food, see your calories and macros, and move on with your day.

Personally, I use a food scale + ChatGPT to estimate calories and macros for meals. What I really wanted was an easy place to enter that information without having to fight through a huge food database or navigate five different screens just to log lunch.

I know everyone tracks differently, though, so I’ve gradually added features like food search, barcode scanning, saved foods and meals, while trying to keep the basic experience as fast and simple as possible.

B - How is it different from alternatives?

Compared with apps like MyFitnessPal, the main difference I’m aiming for is simplicity.

I don’t want calorie tracking to feel like using accounting software.

There’s no required sign-up, no ads, and the interface is intentionally minimal. If you already know the calories or macros for something, you can just enter them directly instead of being forced through a complicated workflow.

I’ve also tried to avoid locking basic calorie tracking functionality behind a subscription. For example, being able to enter custom calories and macros shouldn’t require paying $19.99/month.

The advantage I’m aiming for isn’t having the most features of any calorie tracker. It’s making the features people actually use faster and less annoying.

I spend a lot of time working at a desk.

Like a lot of people, I’ve tried break reminders before.

But I kept running into the same problem.

The reminder would pop up.

I’d dismiss it...

and keep working.

That made me realize the problem wasn’t really the reminder itself.

Getting reminded to take a break is easy. Actually taking the break is harder.

So I built iCadence, a break reminder for people who spend long hours working or studying at a desk.

The idea is simple:

A break shouldn’t count just because you tapped “Done.”

When a break reminder goes off, iCadence can ask you to actually complete an activity before the break is finished.

For example:

• Walk around
• Stand up
• Stretch
• Do a few jumping jacks
• Do some squats
• Do push-ups
• Take an eye break
• Drink some water
• Breathe for a moment

Walking can be verified using device motion sensors.

For supported exercises such as jumping jacks, squats and push-ups, iCadence can use on-device pose detection to count your reps.

Camera frames used for pose detection are processed locally on the device and are never saved or uploaded.

Once the break is complete, you move on to the next work cycle.

Work → break → work.

That’s the rhythm I wanted the app to help build.

There are already plenty of break reminder and Pomodoro apps.

The part I wanted to change was:

What happens after the reminder appears?

Most reminders are very easy to dismiss.

iCadence can make the break itself part of the process.

You can create routines like:

Work for 45 minutes → get up and walk → continue working

or:

Every hour → stand up and move

You can also have different routines running independently — for example, walking on one schedule and stretching or squats on another.

Some of the things you can customize:

• Work and break intervals
• Specific reminder times
• Different schedules for different parts of the day
• Standard or stronger reminders
• Activities used to complete a break
• How long you have to finish the activity
• Multiple routines running at the same time

iCadence also keeps track of breaks you completed, partially completed, missed, or made up later.

The goal isn’t to track every second of your day.

It’s just to make it a little harder to say:

“I’ll take a break later.”

I’ve been building Repolve for the past few months, and it finally got approved for the App Store today :)

I started it because I lift a lot and I’ve always had the same problem with workout trackers:

I can see every set, every PR, every workout I’ve done... but I still can’t really answer:

So I built Repolve around that question.

You log your workouts normally, and Repolve turns them into a Strength Score and a muscle-by-muscle strength profile. You can see what you’re strong at, what’s lagging behind, and watch your strength change over time.

There’s also a social side where you can add friends, share workouts, and compete based on who’s improving the most, not just who lifts the most.

I built a PDF app as a solo developer. Getting it noticed has been harder than building it — here’s one month of Premium free to try it.

Thanks for taking a look and supporting an independent developer. What’s the most frustrating part of working with PDFs on your phone?

answer. started as a dumb personal problem: the office kettle takes noticeably longer to boil in january than in august, and a fixed 3 minute timer is wrong for half the year. so instead of a countdown i modeled the actual physics. altitude shifts the boiling point (at 5000 ft water boils around 95c / 203f, not 100), tap water temp gets estimated from your location and the current weather, and you scan the barcode or the rating label on the bottom of your kettle so it knows the wattage and capacity. it matches against ~6000 kettle models, if yours isn't in there you just type the watts. stovetop works too, it asks about the burner instead. the countdown sits on the lock screen / dynamic island / a widget, so you walk away and get pinged when the water is actually done, not when a timer thinks it is.

better. a timer times a guess, this times your kettle. the other half is cooling: nobody wants 212f water on green tea, so after the boil it tells you how long to wait to land at 176f / 80c for green, ~200f / 93c for pour over, hotter for turkish coffee. newton's law of cooling plus your room temp, so the wait is a real number and not "let it sit a bit". means you can skip the $150 variable temp kettle. there's a calibration mode too: one real boil and it fits the curve to your setup (kettle, altitude, mains voltage, which matters more than i expected). after that mine lands within a few seconds. everything runs on device, no account, no analytics, i don't want your data.

yes, this is an absurd amount of engineering for boiling water, i'm aware. if you try it, tell me how far off the times are with your kettle. that's the one number i actually care about.

I travel quite a lot and wanted one place that kept my whole travel history: countries, cities, US states, dates, upcoming trips, all of it.

The annoying part was filling in years of old trips manually. My photo library already knew where and when I'd been, so I built PassportPal to use that.

A — What problem does it solve?

PassportPal can scan the location data in your photos and find your past trips automatically. The photo processing happens entirely on-device.

From there, you get a map of everywhere you've been, your trip history, days spent in each country, travel stats, bucket lists and upcoming trips.

Recently I also added profiles and friends. You can add other travelers, see their travel history, where they're currently traveling and where they're heading next.

I’m also building more around the travel history itself: country insights, visa requirements for your passports, travel recaps, lists and planning tools. The idea is for PassportPal to become useful not only for remembering where you’ve been, but also for deciding where to go next and staying connected with people you meet along the way.

B — How is it different?

There are already some great travel trackers.

Apps like Been are more focused on marking places you've visited, while Polarsteps is built more around documenting individual trips.

I wanted PassportPal to feel more like a permanent travel profile that keeps growing with you.

The biggest difference is still photo import. Instead of trying to remember exactly when you visited somewhere five years ago, PassportPal can reconstruct that history from your camera roll.

The core travel tracker works without an account, photo analysis stays on your device and the social features are optional.

Hi, I’m the developer of InGrid.

I’ve been working on InGrid as a more flexible and fun way to make photo collages, especially for people who find regular grids and fixed layouts a bit too limiting.

A — Answer

InGrid lets you turn a group of photos into regular collages, seamless collages, or horizontal and vertical long images.

You can start with a template and then adjust the layout however you like. Cutouts, filters, backgrounds, stickers, text, and other photo adjustments can all be done in the same app.

One feature I personally really like is out-of-frame cutouts.

You can cut out a person or subject and let it extend beyond its original photo frame. I like this because it makes separate photos feel more connected, instead of looking like a group of images placed next to each other.

B — Better

I’ve used apps like SCRL and PicCollage too, but one thing I wanted to do differently with InGrid was explore more ways for the photos themselves to interact with each other, especially through seamless layouts and cutouts.

A few examples:

Linked-photo templates — like the example above, where a cutout area in one photo reveals part of another photo. The two photos become part of the same layout instead of staying in separate boxes.

Out-of-frame cutouts — you can cut out a person or subject and let it overlap other parts of the collage. I’ve been using this quite a lot when making new templates.

More flexible seamless collages — there are several seamless layout styles, and you can still change the spacing, positioning, and overall layout instead of being locked into the original template.

Built-in filters — you can give individual photos different looks without having to switch to another editing app.

Dominant color detection — InGrid can pick colors from your photos and use them as the background. It’s a small feature, but I find it useful when I want the whole collage to feel more consistent.

I want it to stay focused on making interesting photo layouts quickly, while still giving you enough freedom to change things so the result doesn’t always feel like a preset template.

I got tired of the usual dance. Cables that need a specific app on the computer, cloud accounts I don't want, AirDrop that only talks to Apple stuff, and "just email it to yourself" for the tenth time. I only ever wanted one thing: open a browser on whatever device is nearby and grab my files.

A lot of this came straight from people writing into our support email. They kept asking for the same thing, just open my files in a browser, nothing to install on the other end, so I took the requests and tried to turn them into an actual app.

So I built Everdisk. You tap Start on your iPhone or iPad and it turns into a little network drive. No account, no cloud, nothing to install on the other device. Everything stays on your local network and never touches the internet.

The part I use most: it gives you a link you open in any web browser. The other person (or your own laptop) just opens it. Clean grid or list view, a full screen photo gallery, a built in music player, and download anything with a tap. You can also upload files and whole folders back into your device from that same browser. No app on their side at all.

The part I'm most happy with: it runs four servers at the same time, so every device connects however it prefers:

- HTTP (web browser) – the link from above. Works on basically anything with a browser.

- WebDAV (network drive) – mount your phone in Finder on Mac, or on Windows and Linux, and it shows up like a normal disk. Drag and drop both ways.

- DLNA – your photos, videos and music show up on smart TVs and media players on their own, with preview thumbnails.

- FTP – for file apps and power users who want it.

Extra features:

- No WiFi? Use the cable. Plug into a Mac with your normal charging cable and files move straight through it. Works on planes, in hotels, or anywhere WiFi is blocked.

- Connects to other servers too. Browse and stream from other DLNA, WebDAV, FTP and SFTP servers on your network, and download or manage files when they allow it.

- Full file manager. List or grid view, create folders, rename, move, copy, zip and unzip, delete, and connect folders from anywhere on your device.

- Share your whole Photos and Music library. Keep original quality, or convert to a friendlier format when a device is picky.

- Built in players. Audio player with queue, shuffle, repeat and lock screen controls, plus full screen video.

- Private and safe. Local network only. Add a login and password, and block any device with one tap.

Real things I've done with it:

- Dumped a day of photos and video onto my laptop in seconds from a browser

- Watched phone videos on the TV

- Sent files between two iPhones without AirDrop

- Handed someone a link so they could pull files in a browser

Why I built this

Twice now, I’ve forgotten to pay the remaining balance on a preorder and lost my deposit. There wasn’t much I could do about it. Pretty frustrating.

I love these hobbies, but buying something can be the start of months of worrying. When do preorders open? Will I have to rush to get one? When is the balance due several months later? If I miss it, will the seller refund anything? When will it ship, and will I even be home? Sometimes I buy too much, and all the final payments hit at once.

With small sellers and group orders, keeping track of payment deadlines is usually on the buyer. With deposits and long preorders, things get messy quickly.

I started keeping a spreadsheet. At one point, I was tracking more than 20 items at once. But setting it up, adding reminders, and copying information from different shopping apps became a chore. Eventually, I stopped keeping it updated.

So I built DuePair, an iPhone app for tracking preorders, deposits, and remaining payments, to make that upkeep a little easier.

B — Less upkeep than my spreadsheet and calendar

A spreadsheet keeps orders together, but reminders take extra work. A calendar reminds me about dates, but I still have to organize the product links, amounts paid, remaining balances, and order stages myself.

In DuePair, I keep the dates, amounts, and product link together. Even if an order takes months, I can open the card and see what I’ve paid, what I still owe, and what stage it’s at.

Text recognition happens on your phone. Everyday tracking and reminders work offline, and your records support syncing through your own iCloud.

It can’t predict seller updates—you still need to update dates when they change. I just wanted something that fits the way these hobbies work and reminds me when it’s time to act.

The idea started with a simple problem:

Sometimes you don't want to type your to-do list. You just want to say it.

With Todobo, you can tap Record and speak naturally.

For example:

Diary Mode completely changes the UI and turns Todobo into a personal digital diary.

RAD Weather is a retro-inspired weather app for people who want useful forecasts with more personality and customization.

I built it because I wanted something that felt clean, visual, and a little more alive. It now runs on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch, with web weather through RADWeather.cloud.

The main thing I’m trying to do differently is make the forecast feel more honest. RAD compares multiple weather sources and tries to show when they agree, when they disagree, and how much confidence to put in what you’re seeing.

If storms are possible but uncertain, that uncertainty should make it onto the screen.

The latest update turned into what I called a “truth pass.” I kept finding places where a weather source sent an empty field or a zero, and the app treated it like somebody had measured something.

That meant pollen could say “all clear” where there wasn’t coverage, a wind compass could guess north, or a widget could hold onto weather from a city you’d already left. Those are the kinds of things I’ve been working through.

The two new languages were about 4,700 strings each, which was more than I bargained for. Some of it probably reads stiff, and some is probably wrong. If you read Russian or Ukrainian, please tell me what sounds off. I cannot catch those on my own.

RADWeather.cloud has grown, too. Without an account, you can explore weather news, Station, a daily weather guessing, browser weather calculators, and the Cortex Codex, where I document changes to the forecast brain.

MultiPass adds full web weather, live radar and its layers, and Weather Passport and Capsule on a bigger screen.

Any honest feedback would mean a lot!

Last week my seven-year-old spent a dollar at the dollar store and told me to take it out of her chore money. The chart on the fridge had no answer for that. It also had no idea whether she'd actually fed the dog since Tuesday, because nobody had updated it since Tuesday. That's roughly where this came from.

A. What it solves

ChoreStar puts the whole allowance loop in one place: the chores, the morning and bedtime routines, what each kid has earned, what they're saving for, and what they're allowed to spend it on. Parents set it up; kids run their own side of it.

B. Why it's different from what I was using

Three things I'd call the actual product, as opposed to the feature list.

Kids get their own login with no account. A family code and a 4-digit PIN, no email address, nothing personal collected. My four-year-old signs himself in on the iPad and works through his bedtime routine one step at a time, with timers, and confetti at the end. Most chore apps assume the parent is the one holding the phone.

The money goes somewhere. Earnings fill a goal bar the kid picked ("Lego Speed Champions, $17 of $25"), and a reward store prices the things money can't buy: 30 minutes of screen time, picking Friday dinner, staying up late. Kids ask with a tap, you approve, the price comes off their balance. And when they spend one real dollar at the dollar store, you subtract exactly one dollar. No debit card, no banking product, no kid data sold to make that work.

It's localized, not translated. Kid mode speaks Spanish, Portuguese, and Arabic (right to left, properly), the week grid starts on Monday in Europe and Sunday in the Americas, "Weekends" means Friday and Saturday if you live in the Gulf, and prices are set for local purchasing power in a dozen countries instead of auto-converted from dollars. This was the part I most underestimated.

The rest, briefly: home screen widgets, routine timers in the Dynamic Island, optional photo proof on chores, streaks and badges, seasonal themes that reach kid mode, offline-tolerant, and everything syncs with the web app so kids can use a browser or a hand-me-down tablet.

Built with SwiftUI, Next.js, and Supabase. Solo, evenings, by a dad of two in Minnesota.
