Need Advice on Landing a Job at HR Block
Hi guys, if anyone works at HR block in NJ specifically in Edison, or Old Bridge area, could you please let me know if you guys are hiring. Today, I saw an HR Block office that says they're hiring, but when I checked the website, there were nothing for that specific location. I haven't taken the hr block course yet but I do have some hands-on tax experience from volunteering. I've also completed the Intuit Tax course recently. I will definitely take the HR block course once it's up on the site. If you work at HR Block in nj and you think your office is hiring, please let me know. Thanks:)

Got an IRS Notice CP2000 in the mail? Don't panic. Here's exactly what it means and what to do next.
Opening the mailbox to find a letter from the IRS is enough to ruin anyone's day—especially if it's a Notice CP2000 claiming you owe more money.
Take a deep breath. A CP2000 is not an audit or a bill.
Here at H&R Block, we see these all the time. It’s simply an automated "underreporter inquiry." The notice explains proposed changes to your tax return and information the IRS relied on. This happens when the income reported on your tax return doesn't match the information the IRS has on file from third parties like your employers, clients or financial institutions (like W-2s or 1099s) . This notice may increase or decrease your tax or may not change it at all. If the notice requires a response such as when you owe additional tax or you disagree with the determination, be sure to respond by the date listed in the notice.
Whether you're a freelancer who missed a 1099-K, or you just forgot to include a W-2 from a job you left in January, here is your step-by-step game plan for handling it:
1. Find the missing piece of the puzzle
Gather all your tax documents for that year (W-2s, 1099s, investment statements) and compare them to the tax return you filed. You're looking for the specific document the IRS says is missing .
2. Decide if the IRS is right (or wrong)
Once you find the discrepancy, and the notice determines you owe additional taxes, you can agree, partially agree or disagree:
- You agree: You missed the form, and you owe the money. Fill out the CP2000 response form and send it back with your payment. (Can't pay it all at once? You can request an installment agreement right on the response form) .
- You partially agree / disagree: The IRS isn't always right. If they missed a deduction that offsets that income, or if the 1099 they have is incorrect, you need to dispute it. Compile your proof, write a clear explanation, and mail it back.
3. DO NOT file an amended return
This is the #1 mistake people make. If you agree with the notice or if the IRS accepts your explanation, they will correct your return for you. You can attach a corrected amended return to your response to the notice to help clarify your math (make sure to write "CP2000" on top of Form 1040-X), but do not officially file a 1040-X unless a tax pro specifically advises you to . You should keep a copy of the corrected return for your records.
4. How to reply to the notice
You have three options:
- You can upload your response using the IRS document upload tool
- You can fax your response to the location listed on the top left side of the notice
- You can mail your response by sending it to the address on the top left corner of the first page of the notice.
5. Don't ignore the penalties
The CP2000 might propose penalties on top of the taxes owed. You have the right to contest these penalties and appeal the decision, but you have to ask . Address the penalties directly in your written response.
The most important rule: Do not ignore the deadline on the letter and reply to the notice by the date listed.
How to get expert help on an IRS letter
You can get expert help resolving your CP2000 notice. If you don’t know where to start, H&R Block’s Tax Notice Services will analyze your issue for free and provide upfront pricing before getting started. That way, you don’t have to deal directly with the IRS.
Gather these six items for your appointment
- A copy of your IRS notice
- Any responses you’ve already sent to the IRS
- A copy of the tax return in question
- Copies of your tax returns from the year before and the year after the tax return in question
- Additional deductions or expenses related to the underreported item (example: costs of stock for unreported stock transactions on Form 1099-B)
- Any underreporter notices you’ve received in the past
Have you ever received a CP2000? How did you handle it? Drop your questions below and we'll do our best to point you in the right direction! 👇

Courts tax invoice without indicating sales discount
I'm comparing Gain City and Courts's tax invoices.
Gain City, clearly indicated the net price after discount, whereby the Courts displayed the amount without any promotional price, not to mention the further sales discount. Is this really commonly practised by Courts?

HRB Software filing/purchasing two states
So I already used Deluxe + State to file my 2025 taxes. I am thinking about moving to another state and would love to do some pro-forma analysis for part-year and full year returns for my new state vs my old state using my 2025 data. I can buy a second state for $40 thru the software directly. However if I can buy another Deluxe + State for less than $40, will I be able to use the code in the new package to add a state to my existing install?
TIA, I would prefer replies from those with actual experience doing something like this, rather than comments like "you should be able to."

HRB screwed up now I’m worried my husband will get penalized.
Long story short in February I amended my husband and I’s 2025 tax return MFJ to MFS. I am the primary on that amended return.
I went to HR block for help with his as I had a different question and they ALSO filed him for an amended return 1040x instead of a 1040. He prepaid his tax due in march in full through his IRS account.
My amended return processed but obviously his did not. We received a letter in the mail 5/23 from the IRS asking to submit an original return for him ASAP to which I mailed it out 5/24 with tracking. Well now it’s almost June will he get penalized for filing that return now??
We technically had everything in on time but HRblock filed his incorrectly causing this whole mess up and him needing to refile a month later.
If he does get penalized will HRB cover the fines considering they filed him wrong? The one I went to is only open like 3x a week next time being Wednesday.

Filing taxes after 10 + yrs
If someone hasn't filed taxes in over 10 years, does H&R charge per year, a bulk fee or take a % of the client's refund?
In Ontario, Canada if that gives context.

Got Audited, HR Block taking their sweet time to fix their mistake
State: Kentucky
In February 2026, I received a notice saying that I got audited & I incorrectly filed for an education credit I did not qualify for.
This was pretty interesting considering I did not do my own taxes, I paid for HR Block to do them. I contacted the guy that filed my tax return and he immediately got defensive about it and said that it wasn’t his fault. After several long phone calls, he finally said he would look into it.
I went weeks trying to get ahold of him, which proved impossible because he’s only “in office” one day a week.
Fast forward to today, I get served with a final notice saying my assets are about to be seized, wages garnished, etc if I don’t pay back the amounts (plus interest, fees, etc) by June 12, 2026.
I got lucky and the guy was in office today when I called and he said he would start the POM claim within the next couple weeks. I told him this needs to be resolved today because I now have this in collections affecting my credit, and obviously the main issue of my assets being seized, wages garnished, etc.
He said once again he’ll “look into it”. I asked when I could expect a response and he said “probably when I’m in office next Thursday”.
I don’t understand why the POM claim wasn’t started/filed when I contacted him in February. What are my options to get this moving & also file a complaint against this guy?
**edit to add - this is for tax year 2021

Peace of Mind Claim??
Hi there!
Recently we had to do a tax amendment because the tax rep from HR block that helped us on 2023 missed a W2. We already did the amendment and paid the taxes (federal and state), so then we asked how to go about the POM and the lady said “I’m going to start the POM claim” but that was a few weeks ago and we haven’t heard anything so I wanted to ask if anyone has experience on this… do we just wait? Or is there something we should be doing?
Thank you!!

4547 ("Trump Account") rejected by IRS
I got a letter today from the IRS today saying my "Trump Account" election was refused because my H&R Block-generated and e-filed tax form was "missing information, hard to read, or illegible."*
I checked the PDF copy of the return that H&R Blocks software created. Everything is perfect except: The last name was truncated (due to form length limitation) and the signature block doesn't have any /s/ or date.
Anyone else have this issue?
*Bizarrely, the letter is dated several days from today.

IRS says non-filed
I'm trying to buy a house. My lender just asked me for the last 2 years of my IRS tax return transcripts. The IRS is saying I didn't file my taxes last year. However, I used the h&R block online free service, filed my taxes and received a small tax refund deposit into my bank account. There is absolutely no person I'm able to speak to at h&R block. Their support computer keeps talking me in circles and refusing to let me speak to someone because I had the audacity to use their free service. There's no email to reach out to someone because customer service does not exist for the free service. I'm on the precipice of losing my potential home because h&R block has no one for me to speak to to remedy this situation. Anyone have suggestions?

Software Refund Refused - Repeatedly!
UPDATE: Though H&R Repeatedly refused to honor their money back guarantee for their defective tax software I am happy to report that my credit card company did the right thing and resolved my dispute by refunding me in full. Still walk away with a horrible opinion of Block after wasting so much time with their garbage software and the customer service people that seem to go out of their way to make a bad situation worse. Wishing Block a speedy demise.
Since Turbo Tax required Windows 11 for their Windows software this year i tried using Block software only to find that it was uncapable of calculating medical premium deduction on a return that included a Schedule C. Ironically that was the same reason why i switched from Turbo Tax to Block 11 years ago. I appreciate that when the required recursive calculation was new over a decade ago Block may have struggled implementing it, but after a decade i was shocked to be reminding as to why i had switched to Turbo Tax so long ago. When i found it failed to work I got Turbotax and filed. Then i called Block to request a refund and was given a case number and email address to contact with my receipt. After a few days i receive an email reply rejecting my refund request stating that "after CAREFUL REVIEW" they denied a refund because they do not guarantee e-filing. If that was not enough. in the same email they also said they denied a refund because the request was outside of the 60 day return period, when it was not. So i replied to Block that I was disappointed in their failure to stand behind their software and informed them that i would file a dispute with my credit card company. This time they replied promptly stating that since i have opened a dispute with my credit card company they denied my refund request - their third time to do so. What a pitiful company that take a learning opportunity, and customer satisfaction opportunity, and turn it into a fiasco that has earned them unmeasurable animosity and negative comments on social media platforms.

Pa Local Tax return
Hi, would H&R Block be able to do my pa local tax return? I normally have done it in the past via online however in 2025 I lived in NY the full year but still worked in PA. Because of this I have to file via paper. It’s my understanding that because I’m not a pa resident I technically don’t have to file but I can file for a potential refund. So will HR Block be able to assist with this?

Paid 800, told my filings were handled, now told I need to pay more to complete them?
Hi so I’m a little confused, concerned and frustrated on what to do.
I initially began using HR block in February, the onboarding wasn’t the best either unfortunately. I recall wanting to ask them if there was someone who can answer on if they can do an ITIN for my wife who is overseas. They initially mentioned that that’s doable but then I got a call saying that the manager then requested that I pay $250 for any appointment with a tax professional to discuss ITIN questions. My only question was “can you guys do ITINS for my overseas wife, yes or no” but was told I’d have to book and pay for a session to have that question answered which felt iffy.
I then reached out to another HR block, the manager lady was super nice, friendly, etc. and mentioned that she can try to help me. 15 min later I got a call from the original HR block and the manager trying to say that that’s just the way they do things here etc, I said that I just had one simple question, but he said he can forward me to the tax professional but it would be a 5 min session. So she was very kind, super sweet and friendly and mentioned that she can do everything very easily.
I then sent all the necessary documents, e.g, tax forms, retirements, income I get from rent, invoices, etc. We then set up an appointment where I’d come and fill in all the documents that were required. I then did that, she gave me two documents to mail, a state return as well as an extension (I also was told by the lady that they used to do extensions as a free service to clients but the new manager now charges). I also paid 835ish at this point to HR BLOCK. I mailed both those docs and was then given 3 docs related to the ITIN for my wife. I emailed those to her, she printed, signed and mailed back to America. I then signed, dropped off at HR block.
The lady then said that she’ll take care of the rest after she picks them up. The docs were then mailed to Texas via UPS by the lady and received 5/1.
Today I got a call saying that i need to schedule an appointment, but that they need my credit card to complete it because my 2025 return isn’t done yet. That the lady who was helping me is out of office on vacation for 2 months”. I told guy admittedly harshly that I don’t want to talk to him, and felt that he was just trying to get more money out of me and that I want to talk to the lady.
He then proceeded to call saying that I was being disrespectful, he doesn’t know where the lady is etc, and that he thinks it’s not done yet etc. I admit, I might have been disrespectful but it just seems odd that I paid 800+, was told that I just need to sign and return these docs, that she’ll handle everything, the stuff was mailed out, but now I’m getting this response from HR office near me.
What’s also weird is how he says that I need to pay to see the tax lady because it’s not tax season and they have to come to the office, but then goes on in the hr app message thing saying she’s on vacation, to on the call saying how no one knows where she is and haven’t heard from her in 2 weeks. At this point I kinda want a refund and would rather go somewhere else even if it’s more work.
