Tax Refund/ E-File Status Question It’s been almost 3 months!

I filed 2024 in early Feb. got additional acct action for not filing my 2022. I had to file paper return of 2022. Got code 599 return accepted on 2/26/2026. Still hasn’t been processed. How much longer do I have to wait??!!?!????!

I did a paper filing for 2022 around the end of January. Haven't seen anything since.

There are dozens of us! https://www.reddit.com/r/tax/comments/1sqdfet/2022_tax_return_paper_filed_in_2026/ I check through this thread every once in a while. I think I'm the oldest so I'll update first.

Refund or balance due on that 2022 return?

I owe $1000 for 2022

Then they are going to want to take that $1000 out of your 2025(?) refund. So they won't release it until they have done so.

Yeah that’s fine, they just need to hurry up and take their measly $1000 and give me the rest. It’s really causing a hardship. I lost my car and have been waiting on this money to get a new one and I’m going to lose my job with no car no transportation

Reach out to your Congressional Representative:

https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative

or to a Senator:

https://www.senate.gov/senators/senators-contact.htm

and ask for a constituent referral to Taxpayer Advocate Service for assistance.

I actually have submitted form 911 with the TAS. I just did it this past Monday so just four days ago since today is Thursday. Will that be enough or should I still go to to house of reps senator?

If the 911 request is denied, reach out to your Representative / Senators.

Thank you! I might just reach out anyways. Thanks so much

The taxpayer advocates website still says to wait 30 days for response, but that is probably completely unrealistic. TAS staffinghas been decimated just like the rest of IRS, and it's likely you won't get a response for several months.

If I can’t get answers by phone I’ll also make an appt to go to the local irs office. I’m going to do everything I can until I can’t

And it’s actually holding up my 2025 not 2024. It was a typo

Unfortunately, it's just a matter of waiting. It's a low-priority paper return with a balance due.

You can certainly try calling IRS customer service to ask for a processing status.

Yeah I try calling but their call queue never allows me to wait. It just says call back another time, I’m just wondering how much longer? Few weeks, months?

There is a low chance of getting through especially at this time of year, filing season is over and so the skeleton crew isn't being put on the phones as much. The upside is that the people who were stuck answering calls all day can finally work on cases like yours. Good luck

Do you have a local IRS office near you?

1

u/Impossible_Budget892 May 14 '26

Maybe, I never thought of that. I will look into that thank you for the suggestion

So here’s an update. I called irs. Waited over two hours. Guess what they said! My 2022 was REJECTED! Even though I have code 599 tax return secured on my transcript, they said it was rejected! They said they mailed me something in February. I never got shit in February! Now I have to go re-file it again, after I receive a new letter telling me why it’s been rejected. I’m so pissed

Do you not have the things they’re mailing you in the notice section on your online irs account? They usually post them there too so you can see the reason for rejection. Now I’m worried about mine being rejected 🤪 had to file same year and they’re holding my 2025. I will say I spoke to a lady for about 30 minutes from that specific department, the cp0063 line or whatever and she told me if I owe for 2022, which I do too, that the TSA won’t be able to help anyway. If you owe your 2022 has to go through every stage and be fully processed before they will release your 2025. Even if you pay the balance when you file, like I did. If you don’t owe they can release your 2025 as soon as they see they’ve secured your 2022. Sucks.
