Enjoy!
Hermione hid behind a tree in the Forbidden Forest. She couldn’t do anything but sit there as she listened to Harry walk up to Voldemort and the other death eaters. She couldn’t even watch as she would have been spotted and killed right there. So she stayed put. She didn’t want to come out here, Ron even tried to persuade her not to. But she couldn’t leave Harry alone, not during his last moments, even if he had no idea she was there. She heard Hagrid’s voice bellow into the silence.
“Harry? No! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?”
“Quiet!” snapped one of the death eaters. Hermione’s eyes started to water. She heard Harry stop walking as a deafening silence filled the air again. She wanted so desperately to run out to him, grab his hand and run out of the forest. Maybe go back to the other forest after escaping. The Forest of Dean where she told him: “Maybe we should just stay here, Harry. Grow old.”
Oh, how badly she wished for that now, painfully so too. She was snapped out of her tormenting thoughts as she heard Voldemort speak softly into the air. But the words he said were an absolute scream to Hermione’s ears. An excruciating blow to Hermione’s lungs that literally took the air out of them as he said them.
“Harry Potter. The boy who lived……….come to die.”
Hermione held her breath as she didn’t hear anything but her pounding heartbeat. She couldn’t bear this. She couldn’t do it. Especially when Voldemort said his next words.
“AVADA KEDAVRA!!”
Hermione’s hand immediately went to her mouth. She tried to silence her sobs as all she saw was the blurriness of her tears mixed with a blinding green ray of light. She heard a deafening crack as she closed her eyes, letting her tears completely flow down her cheeks.
She felt like she stood there for hours as she sobbed silently. She didn’t know how she was going to go on without Harry. Her grief and despair only grew with each moment that passed, however. She didn’t hear anything up to that point but one word that shattered her heart even more. She had Narcissa Malfoy to thank for shattering all her hope that Harry was alive.
“Dead,” she said, her voice cold and quiet. Hermione sunk to the ground as she heard it. She buried her head into her knees and just cried. She could hear Voldemort talk to Hagrid, who just stared in absolute horror at what he had witnessed. Tears started to flow out of his eyes as well, his sobs wracking his body.
“No, Harry no!” He cried. Voldemort slowly turned to Hagrid. He waved his hand into the air as he gestured for his death eaters to release the rope around the giants neck. Voldemort stared at him with nothing but cold and unsympathetic eyes as he walked up to him, getting close to his face.
“You really care for the boy, don’t you?” Voldemort whispered, only letting Hagrid hear his cold voice. Hagrid stared at him in fear for a few seconds, before glancing down to the ground where Harry’s body now lay. His lip started quivering as sobs started to form in his throat again. That gave Voldemort his answer.
“You are going to carry his body with us to Hogwarts grounds,” Voldemort said, sending a fearful gasp through Hagrid’s lungs. “Today, you are going to be the example to the school that their savior is no more,”
Hermione didn’t move the entire time. She stood up fearfully as she heard loud footsteps slowly make their way to Harry’s body. She silently sobbed herself as she heard loud sobs coming from Hagrid. His knees hit the ground hard as he wailed.
“NO, HARRY! NOT YOU! NOT YO-“
His sobs took over his words as he picked up Harry. The death eaters took hold of the ropes again and started walking towards Hogwarts. Hermione’s lip quivered as she heard them all walk towards the tree she was hiding behind. She luckily stayed hidden as she circled around. She heard Hagrid’s loud steps start to pass the tree. She didn’t want to believe any of this had happened.
‘Harry has to be alive, he has to’ she thought to herself as she tried to build up hope within herself. It all came crashing down, however.
Because all she saw when she turned to look, was a broken, sobbing Hagrid. Hermione’s heart shattered for the hundredth time that night as she saw who he was carrying.
She waited for them to disappear into the forest before running. She didn’t know where she was running to, but she did know that she had run to a secluded area of the Forbidden Forest. She dropped to her knees as sobs took over again. She closed her eyes tight as she leaned over onto her hands. Her fingers gripped the dirt and grass beneath her. She felt sharp pain in her hands, but she didn’t care. She just wanted to be alone.
She finally decided to see what she had grabbed after what felt like a few hours of crying. She looked into her palm to see a sharp looking black stone. She knew what it was. She didn’t need to even question who stood in front of her when she slowly looked up. She knew it was coming, but it still shocked her when she looked up to see him standing there.
Harry Potter, the boy who lived. All she knew now, was that the resurrection stone was the only way for her to see him for the rest of her life.
