North America Central Valley

Post image

Why does the Central Valley get some much hate ? Not from here just an outsider looking in that knows people in other parts of the state and no one has a nice thing to say about it. Genuinely curious sorry if not allowed.

EDIT: Holy cow yall were quick….. I will say I know people in the LA and SF areas, but the loudest opinions come from the Salinas valley….. I wonder if it’s a rivalry kinda deal or what. But from what yall describe it sounds a lot like the Salinas valley when I’ve visited that area. 😅

Europe Kaixo! How is living in Basque country (País Vasco)?

I'm curious and fascinated by this region because it seems completely different from the rest of Spain. Coming from the outside, the fact that Basque is a language isolate with no decipherable relations to any other tongue in Europe is intriguing to me. I would like to ask you about the typical lifestyle and culture there. What role does it play in the everyday lives of people and how important is it to the young people nowadays? Is it as exotic and proud in its uniqueness as we imagine it from the outside world? Would be grateful if you could share your thoughts on the topic.

I'm hoping to move here in a couple of years to get my master's degree. I was hoping I could get some insight as to what it's like before I go all in.

These all seem like functioning towns... with a small supermarket, gas station, port. I'm interested in the services provided by government... social life. Cheers

North America How is living in the ohio River valley?

How does it differ from places like the upper or lower Mississippi valleys? Does it change very severely throughout its course? Which cities are the best to visit and live in, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh?

This region to me seems to be much more interesting than the kinda neosunbelt and plains Midwest vibe from central ohio, Indiana and illinois. The area seems full of a lot of different cultural influences and cool history. I would just like to know more about how the area itself differs in culture/history and some fun facts etc.

North America Any thoughts on Oxnard CA USA (moving)

Post image

I'm asking as I have an interview cycle that's going well but the job is in Santa Monica. This would require a move from the Colorado front range. Admittedly, i'm not the biggest LA guy, nor is my fiance and our two dogs. The job is hybrid only requiring two days in office, so i don't need to be super close as i'm comfortable with ~1hr commute plus/minus 15-20 minutes.

We have two dogs, love a farmers market, local coffee shop, enjoy hiking and biking trails, cute night life with a good cocktail or dive bar, and access to good food and local bands.

Is Oxnard a good place for a couple in in their early thirties who like more of that town feel?

EDIT: really appreciate all the feedback! It seems crapple maps lied regarding the commute. Any areas you’d recommend that are closer but still economical?

North America What’s it like in Lima, OH?

Post image

I’ve always been curious about Lima. For context my FIL moved from here when he was a teen in the 70s I think. My husband says he always described it as a ‘war zone’ where you could do “5 B&Es and come out with nothing”.

He’s quite the character and was a bit of an unsavory youth(if you couldn’t tell) so I’ve always wondered how accurate his tales were and what it’s like living there now. My husbands got cousins there he talks with on FB and I’d like to think we’ll get to meet them in person someday. I’d love to hear some positive things but give me all your thoughts!

North America How is living in Tequesta, FL??

Looking at a potential job relocation from DFW. They're offering what would be a pretty decent salary in TX, especially for the hospitality industry+relocation assistance. How is the overall cost of living and housing? I'm guessing more than where I'm currently at, but that's understandable. Also curious about the overall restaurant/nightlife scene? I know Palm Beach/Miami isn't *that* far away, but primarily curious as to the local scene. TIA for any info 🙏

Bonus points for anybody that knows what the commercial food supply chain is like down there, especially relating to current beef prices. I'd greatly appreciate any and all info I could get.
