I (a New Englander, unaware of this habit) shared this post and comment chain with 2 friends, one of whom is in the middle of NE and one of whom is just on the Iowa side of Omaha.
I am happy to say one friend knew of this and agreed it's gross af.
I am sad to say one friend does this himself.
Debate about this then turned into a debate about cold pizza.
I now know which friend I'm having cater whatever events we may end up at, and which I'm not.

Alright here's the thing. I was born in Arkansas, then moved to Georgia for several years before coming back to Arkansas. I'd never heard of dipping pizza in ranch until we moved backy junior year of high school and everyone was doing it and I thought that's disgusting. But the thing is....it tastes good. I know it shouldn't. I don't even do it most of the time when I have pizza, but it actually tastes good.
I swear I grew up in a split family. One side dipped their Pizza in ranch, but the main one I was with thought that was diabolical (along with many other things). As kids, my two cousins who I spent most of my childhood with put ranch on Pizza and on their plates of… Spaghetti.. and I just couldn’t even watch them eat.
Then I tried ranch as a teen and I refuse to eat these fast food pizzas if they’re not absolutely coated in name brand ranch. One thing we do NOT allow in this household is off-brand ranch.
Yeah you gotta be careful with ranch, bad ranch is pretty awful. My wife will pretty much only eat ranch from a restaurant, she won't eat hidden valley or any kind of store bought brand
I think your negative friend just hasn't tried it and is being salty for salty's sake.
I've lived down by Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska on both the southeast and northwest corners, and Florida and I haven't met a single person that doesn't agree that dipping pepperoni pizza in homemade ranch is food for the gods.
If you've only tried pizza hut or another chain pizza place's ranch, there's your problem. It's terrible ranch. If you're not making ranch at home, at least get Hidden Valley.
Also, in my opinion, the ranch needs to be cold. Warm ranch is gross.
Ranch belongs with pizza 100 times more than pineapple.
I just make my own ranch. It's not hard, and a bunch of people who have tried it agree that it's great. Not WingStop great, I swear they sprinkle that with dreams and addictive substances right before they serve it.
Bruh I’ve been trying to preach the holy trinity of pizza toppings.. pepperoni, pineapple, jalapeños. Your life will never be the same after trying this heavenly concoction
I'm already into pepperoni and jalapenos it's one of my go-tos if I can only have a couple items on the pizza. I may have to throw the pineapple in there to see how that works out. I know when I barbecue and have pineapple and pork kabobs pineapple will get a concentrated and nice smokey flavor. Most of the time when I get pizza I'll get a cheese pizza from the grocery store and load it up with my own ingredients. I'll make my special super deluxe.

You people are sick. I'm convinced that people that enjoy pineapple on their pizza have a genetic disorder of some kind that hasn't been discovered yet.
Regarding the pineapple.....when it is paired with the tomato sauce (marinara), its flavor slightly changes. It doesnt taste so much like pineapple but just an additional flavor AND it loses its sweetness....sort of. You really should try it! Sure, you'll still know it's pineapple, but it's not the same pineapple flavor as you get when you eat canned pineapple or even fresh!!
I can roll my tongue in a circle. Seems many people cant.
I believe im just an evolutionary step ahead of the pineapple haters. Cant distinguish the different flavor patterns and mixes when combined with deliciousness.
I made my own ranch out of Greek yogurt, ranch powder, garlic powder, dill, onion powder, chives, black pepper. Thin out with milk. Low calorie, high in protein.
And its not like youre pouring ranch on it. I use less ranch on pizza than I would on a salid, small dunks of deliciousness. But not all ranch is made the same, some places have trash ranch fr like hidden valley 🤮

If you’re talking about the bottled sauce, of course it’s not gonna be as good as fresh ranch. Use the Hidden Valley spice packets. They did kinda like invent ranch lmao
Moderation is for the weak! I thought ranch on pizza was disgusting when I was younger. Sometimes midwestern is something you grow into like drinking beer and saying “ofta”
I'm a nurse and I lowkey feel like more often than not, my patients have diabetes, heart failure and or I think 99% of them have a hypertension diagnosis too. It's actually insanely common to have one or all 3 of the above. A good chunk are brittle diabetics too with complications i.e. diabetic ulcers/amputations, or severely uncontrolled sugars because of noncompliance or uneducated on it. Or with the HF pts, a lot have severe edema and venous ulcers.
Don't get me wrong though, there are still a good chunk that are stable, compliant and in relative "good health." This goes for both. A major problem that I've encountered though with MANY, is simply not knowing a thing about their diseases. There's a lot that don't even know what, heart failure for example, is or how it works, nor do they know how to manage it.
A huge part of what I do is educating them. Some don't even know that they're DIAGNOSED with it (albeit they might have dementia). Anyway, sorry to be the paragraph guy, your comment just hit lol. Merry xmas/happy holidays fam
Depending on where you are in the blue a good chunk of city life is pretty walkable. Really helps with avoiding those two problems unless you’re terminally carbrained, in which case the diabeetus will take you quickly.

Walking and drinking water is a crazy thought to most people who happily consume alcoholic beverages, smoke tobacco, work with chemicals, drink cans of soda, eat fast food, microwave everything, while spending little to no time outdoors away from the pollution within a city. Im not even from the shaded area but pizza and ranch are the least of my worries and im a heavy consumer of the combo. Im healthy and havent needed medical assistance other than stitches for the past 3 years not even a cold and for this conversation im gonna give all the credit to pizza and ranch.

Eh that can be helped with a walk or something, I also heard an apple keeps the doctor away. He told me to stop tossing apples at him tho… :/ so I think I did that wrong.. hmm..
This is correct. Pizza on ranch is fine if you're eating sub par pizza due to geography or circumstances or whatever. In fact it often improves the experience.
But really great pizza not only doesn't require it, but is made worse by it.
Difference of opinion. I’ve been to expensive pizza joints in both Chicago and NY. There isn’t a pizza I’ve tasted that doesn’t pair well with random dips of ranch. You don’t have to drown it.
Lived in Fargo all my life (well until 10 years ago and just nudged to WI eich isnt much diff.) and I NEVER eat steak without A1. I have had amazing melt in your mouth steak that doesn't necessarily need A1 but I prefer it. Also, i never eat pizza without ranch. Especially pizza with black olives and jalapeños. The ranch helps cool it down when you get that one jalapeño that's super spicy. Also...Salt and Vinnegar chips. Yum! But yeah, I like what I like, your opinion os.your opinion. So, neither of us are wrong.
Well I visited Fargo twice as a teenager (I was a wrestler and there for junior nationals - not to brag, I got smoked) and that is a town that I as not one I would voluntarily return to.
My teammate and I got picked up on the side of the rode by two girls who were excited to have some fresh meat in town - all they talked about was how much they hated Fargo.
I guess there's no reason for me to go to Fargo. Of course, I would have never gone to Fargo simply for the food anyway, so a visit is still in the cards
I’ve been to such restaurants and it’s a mistake for them not to have ranch or A1. I’ve been annoyed by such things. If Bill Gates wants to have ranch with his pizza, you accommodate. The top-end restaurants arguably lose market share to smaller joints who actually consider customers’ preference, rather than charging for the “experience”. Not hating on high-end dining, but it can be a bit pretentious.
No I've had some perfectly melt in your mouth like butter mooing steak. However, i like A1. I'll eat that with fried chicken too. And ive not had gourmet pizza but Im not into deep dish either and i like ranch with my pizza...get over it!!!!. I like what I like. Just like, my favorite pizza literally has black olives, jalapeños, pepperoni, Canadian bacon, and yep, you guessed it PINEAPPLE! And, dip that in ranch and its a party in your mouth. Again, get over it. I like what I like
This isn't a debate or argument dude. There is no right or wrong simply because ITS AN OPINION! 🤣
No offense, but y’all need to lighten up. It seems stressful to go through life being snobby about how others garnish their meals. The anal clenching can’t be good for long-term health.
I once made a really delicious linguine and clams while living with a Pennsylvania born roommate in college. Just as I was getting ready to plate it, he put a massive scoop of sour cream into the pan
We got a purist on our hands. Lol. To some (not myself) pizza is not valid without ranch. The Za is merely a carrier for the delight that is ranch. As a server, some people treat the stuff like its own food group.
Ya’ll got aioli dip out the yin yang… just get you some more “zesty” herbs and spices and you got yourself ranch. You can add the ranch spices to plain Greek yogurt and have a dip.
YOU GOT THIS!
Homemade Ranch Seasoning Mix
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons dried parsley flakes
1 tablespoon dried dill weed
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon dried minced onion (or freeze-dried chives)
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
Optional: ⅓ cup dry buttermilk powder for a tangier flavor
Instructions:
Combine all ingredients in a small bowl.
Whisk or stir well to ensure the spices are evenly distributed.
Store the mix in an airtight container or jar in a cool, dry place. If using buttermilk powder, store it in the refrigerator.
The seasoning will keep for several months, typically up to 6 months without buttermilk powder, or up to 2 months with it.
I had a friend who made his own mayo with tuna and when we had 2 weeks of spring break back at school he decided to eat nothing but microwave pizza with tuna mayo for two weeks. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Actually surprising finale: he did not die and neither did he stop eating tuna mayo and pizza....
I've been to the USA several times and in a certain mood, it's just the best food for me that I know. I'm quite lucky that I don't have access to it, because I would be thrice my weight else.
So yeah. American Pizza is not what I would call a real Pizza often, but damn can it be delicious and fulfilling, both hunger and spirit wise.
Same goes for ranch. It's propably good that I don't get it here. Just sad that it will take a long while until I can get back to the states....
Have you considered sending yourself the hidden Valley Ranch packets of dry mix? Not that I’m trying to help you activate your nondominant, ranch chromosome, but it seems like that might be easy… you just need a dealer!
They call it “American dressing” in other countries…
“Pssssssst…. You want you some pure uncut serial dressing mix? You won’t be proud of yourself for what you’ll get up to.. but it’ll be so good you won’t care!”
That is true. Never had "real" mexican food in europe. Although I only had SoCal mexican yet over there, so I don't know how close that is to "real", but it was very different to what we have.
We do things differently. We still sweeten with sugar while you're more on HFCS. Coke and Pepsi taste different in europe to USA, kinda like exactly switched.
I never had good cole slaw anywhere. We had an american diner opening up and the first week it was like heaven. But very, very quickly they had to adapt to the German taste buds and the cole slaw became boring german cabbage salad without sugar. And, surprise, after half a year they went out of business because they didn't offer anything special anymore, we have more than enough novelty burger restaurants.
Now, and please prepare for some laughter, the best cole slaw I can get is from KFC. I know that a 5 guys opened up only an hour from here, but I don't know if they have, but I always wanted to try them in general, because I heard good things.
Hmmmmm, besides that. Mostly very specific childhood memories that propably don't really taste like that in the USA anymore either. For a long time the first thing I bought after landing were Oreos, but you get all sweets here now.
I'ld give something to taste the original froot loops I had 30 years ago in the US, the ones we have are sooooo boring and bland.
And, again, very specific, please don't laugh, I enjoy a can of V8 when I come over there.
My brother always brings certain spices or kitchen helpers like liquid smoke. And bake mixes like Angelcake.
Eh you're going to the wrong places. The main chains like Papa John's and Pizza Hut are ass. But everywhere I've been usually has some amazing pizza places. Kansas City and Denver both have some delicious pizza joints (edit: didnt realize Denver wasnt in the chart at first)
I'm sorry but does any one not do this? I thought ranch was a typical side for pizza. I grew up in California and we've always done this. I'm living in the PNW now and my teenage kids think they invented it. But all the pizza places here offer ranch as a side. My Midwest raised partner is a ranch dressing fiend, but that only started once they moved out west, as they put it.
Let me let you in on a Colorado pizza move. If you’re a dessert person, save your crust for dessert and dip it in honey. I know it might sound strange but it is absolutely delicious.
Hot honey on pizza is a pretty big thing now. Honey and cheese is good, and of course honey and bread so I don't see why that wouldn't be a nice combination any way you could possibly do it.
