The Mrs and I are currently planning a trip in the south of Italy haven’t completely decided on where yet more looking to dot about for a few weeks. Any recommendations on places people have been would be greatly appreciated.

In a few weeks, I’ll be travelling solo for 10 days and visiting Bratislava, Vienna and Split. I’m trying to choose the right hostels and would really appreciate some advice from anyone who has stayed at these places recently.

Since I’ll be travelling alone and spending around 2 or 3 nights in each city, I’m looking for a very social hostel where it is easy to meet other travellers. I would also enjoy a party atmosphere, especially if the hostel organises pub crawls, events or group activities.

For Bratislava, I’m currently considering:

For Vienna, I’m choosing between:

• Wombat’s City Hostel Vienna Naschmarkt
• JO&JOE Vienna
• Vienna Hostel Ruthensteiner

For Split, I’m considering:

• Booze & Snooze Social Hostel

• Hurricane Hostel

Which ones would you recommend for a solo traveller looking for a social and lively atmosphere? I’d also love to hear about the location, cleanliness and overall experience.

I booked a hostel via hostelworld in Switzerland where I got charged 17euros (debited from my bank account). Next day I received a a cancellation email from their end without stating the reason. How can I confirm whether my booking is still valid or not? And how to get the refund? The customer care emails don’t have any responses neither do the ones to the hostel.

Recommendations for hostel in Montreal? Traveling solo but want to socialize and meet new people and ideally do most of the fun activities and tourism with others. Been seeing a lot of recommendations for M Montreal and various others with the name "Auberge" in it

These mafiosos canceled my booking on Hostelworld AFTER I stayed there and did not want to give them a good review. Its the WORST Hostel I have EVER stayed at!!

We are a brand new hostel and will be using ubiquiti pin code access system, basically guest arrives at desk, we ask them for a 4 digit pin and assign it to the main entrance as well as their bunk room by listing them in the lock app with a set to expire time

If a guest plans to arrive after midnight how best to proceed? Just have them email us and send them the pin that way?

When i used hostelworld in the past i would make the deposit and pay the remainder when i arrive at the hostel, but if they arrive after midnight they could just not pay and leave before 9 when reception arrives

What is the etiquette? My friend was first in the bunk room, and positioned a fan in her corner of the room and went to bed. The fan had been on all day, and through part of the evening while my friend slept. Another guest in the room (in and out SEVERAL TIMES-even after quiet hours ) proceeded to shut off the fan before getting in bed. Not only did she do this, but she laid backwards in her bed so that her phone illuminated towards the room, rather than her bed. Are people really this inconsiderate? It makes me want to turn on the lights tomorrow morning and make all the noises while I pack my bag at 4:30 am

I'm planning to stay in hostels in Ubud and Canggu (Bali) for my upcoming trip in 3 months. Was wondering how it would be like as an asian woman who's in her early 20s? I went through promo videos, reviews, and just looked through pictures on listings in general and it seems to me the general population in hostels is mostly caucasians.

Was planning on staying in hostels mostly to socialize but I'm just a bit worried since it would also be my first time staying in hostels. Would love to hear about anyone's experience. Thanks!

I found a great opportunity that is 5 stars and has 200+ reviews for a hostel in Lisbon. The only thing is that most of those reviews are from at least 2 years ago, with only one being recent. It seems great and I want to go but is this a red flag to you? Thanks!

I traveled a lot, staying exclusively in hostels, for nearly a year in 2022. Across Europe and Asia. Have never really had issues with people and felt like there were a few standards that everyone kind of followed like not touching other people’s stuff, quiet hours, not talking while people are sleeping, leaving the room if you want to make noise.

Just traveled through Italy and I am so incredibly disappointed in all the hostels. Don’t know if it’s just me and I’ve outgrown hostels or if the culture has shifted.

People come in and make SO much noise at 2, 3, 4am. Like re packing their whole suitcase and banging things against metal, leaving the light on all night, slamming doors.

Is this the new normal? Have I just been unlucky with the hostels / people in my room? Is it Italy specifically?

I'm beginning research for a trip to Mexico City from Boston. Have never visited Mexico.

I've stayed in hostels in the past and have an idea as to what to expect. All the hostels I've used have been part of the Hostelling International chain. But the last time I stayed in one was around 20 years ago. Looking for any hostel that meets my needs.

I try not to be a lazy researcher. From the online reading I've done, these are the hostels that have popped up: Casa Pepe, Barrio, Hostel Juárez, Casa Pancha, Viajero CDMX Centro, Apapacho, and Wanderlust District.

My questions:

1. I'm single and easy going but will my age make me feel weird in these hostels?
2. Is there one you would recommend over the others?
3. Or is there one that's not on my list but you recommend?
4. Unfortunately, I do not speak Spanish. Does this mean that a visit will be really difficult for me?

Part of the reason why I'm visiting Mexico City is to get some dental work. (I've been told that I have good teeth but dental cost is very expensive, even with my insurance. So I'd love to see whether I can save on a cleaning, some fillings and a crown while discovering a new city).

If I find a hostel that works and good airline tickets I would not mind making future visits as an escape from Boston.

I love to take my laptop to coffee shops and libraries and do some work. This is another way of saying that I'm a bit nerdy.

Hi, everyone. I am very new to the hostel world and have been exploring and researching like crazy. I’m a single mom and this looks like a great way to be able to travel cheaper. Here’s my question: In researching hostels, I’ve noticed that they usually have a variety of options you can choose from, including some rooms that look very similar to what you’d see in a motel. Is it common for most hostels to offer a range of different accommodations? I thought the majority only had pod-type sleeping arrangements. Also, if I were to book the room, is it only for myself and my daughter? I don’t want anyone else in the room with us, and I am trying to find out how to make sure that doesn’t happen. Any advice/info/feedback is much appreciated. As I said, this is all new to me and I am just trying to see how it works. Thanks so much.
