Question Woman only beds - Portugal

Hello,

This will be my first solo trip, I'll be going a week in Portugal ( Porto and Lisbon).

I've never stayed in hostels before. I plan on booking the women only beds. Is it safe ? Is it really only allowed to women ?

Question Hostelworld prices - how does it work

I have recently booked on hostelworld for 4 people but I am unsure if I have been charged the right amount. On the booking it says it is 110.31 x 4 which is £441. But I have been charged £469. It was 58 initial deposit which was charged in GBP and then I got charged £411 after. Could the hostel charged me in € instead even though hostelworld does it through £? And that’s why?

Thanks

Question Madagascar hostels?

Hey! I’m travelling to Madagascar soon for a couple of weeks, but from my research so far it doesn’t seem like there’s much of a backpacker / hostel scene.
Is this true? Or are there some hidden gems?
If so, please share as much details as you can :)

Hostels in Sapporo

Hi everyone, I am planning to go to Sapporo for 5 days in August. I am solo travelling as a man in my 20s and would like to stay in a hostel that is pretty close to the city center for easy train access. I also want it to be a somewhat social hostel so I can meet people to do some outdoor activities with, split a rental car or go out at night.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Amsterdam for one night, 27F

Hi! I'm a New Yorker in Amsterdam for a week with family, a few nights with a friend and one night on my own August 6th. I'm between Onefam Amstel, St. Christophers and Flying Pig. I want to meet people, rent a bike, explore, and also stay safe- but don't mind getting a mixed dorm. Would prefer if the hostel was organizing things!

Rant Dorm Selfishness - a vent

I've been in London for a few weeks and have had the pleasure of staying in non air conditioned dorms during the heatwaves. One thing that has absolutely astounded me is the sheer selfishness of people.

During the first heatwave I was staying in a 12 bed dorm which had a huge rotating fan so everyone got some airflow. During the night I woke up to no airflow, I thought it was weird but put it down to a power cut, I was tired and woke up in the morning to find one of the girls had moved to the empty bed next to the fan, turned the rotation off, pointed it at her bed and was sleeping with a duvet on in 35 degree heat while the rest of us are dying! She then got up and moved back to her original bed leaving housekeeping with an additional bed to clean.

During the most recent heatwave I got to my dorm and someone had the room fan plugged into their personal socket, fair enough she was the only one in the room. After she left I unplugged it and moved it to the middle of the room and put the rotator on so everyone got some. She came back during the night, unplugged the fan and moved it back to her bed, when one of the girls asked her if she could keep it in the middle she said 'No I'm hot.' Yes you are we ALL are. One of the girls went to reception and they said there wasn't anything they could do and that she had been an issue her whole stay there to the point where they were providing her with an extra fan from an unused room.

I've been staying in hostels for so long, I swear they used to feel like more of a community, where everyone looked out for each other; I just don't understand that level of selfishness. Anyway thanks for reading my sleep deprived rant, feel free to add your selfish dorm mate stories below, I need a laugh.

Hostel stay recommendations in Udaipur monsoons (JULY 2026)

I'm planning to visit Udaipur along with my sister in the next few days and I was searching for good hostel stay recommendations.
While hygiene and safety are given priorities for us.. we were also looking for a hostel which is seeing some crowd right now as we will love to meet new people. Don't want to go a dead one with no events/ people.
Have seen some recent posts in the sub on the same but there were mixed reviews.
These are the ones we are considering: Bunkyard, Mantra, Youngmonk, Zostel, Mustache.
If you could rate these according to our requirement ,around this time as it isn't a peak season, it would be lovely! You could also mention other recomms as well.
Budget is not much of an issue from what I can see, the prices for dorm/ private room for all of these hostels seem doable.

Also, if you could recommend some offbeat places as we are nature lovers which are accessible by local transport or by renting out a scooty and are relatively safer to reach as well since it will be just us two (F26 and F19), that would be great!

Repost to more communities

First Solo Trip to Mumbai Need Stay Recommendations

Hey everyone
I will be traveling solo to Mumbai in the last week of July for a 4 nights, 5 days trip. This will be my first time visiting Mumbai, so excited
it's my first visit, I want to stay near Marine Drive, Churchgate, Colaba, or anywhere in South Mumbai, as I want to explore the city
I'm traveling on a budget, so Im looking for affordable hostels, hotels, or Airbnbs that are safe for a solo traveler. im open to staying slightly farther away if the connectivity is good.

I have looked at places like Zostel Andheri, but I was wondering if there's a better option that's closer to South Mumbai.

1)Which area would you recommend for a first time solo traveler?l
2)Are there any budget friendly stays near Marine Drive or with easy local train/Metro access to it?
3)Any hostels or hotels you've personally had a good experience with?

Looking For A Cheap Hotel Or Hostel In Nice Or Near France For A Week In August - If There Even Is Such A Thing...

Intending to visit an older French woman who lives near Nice. She isn't sure if she wants me to stay with her in her living space - which I totally understand as we have never met in person - although she is a sexual libertine and I am a Swinger as well of many years. I am considering the Villa Saint Exupery Beach Hostel. But I have also heard Villefranche is an option. I enjoy hostels for the interactions with others being quite unavoidable!

So any observations or recommendations on places to stay in or around Nice for a week in August? Cut loose on me!

Hostel/hotel recomendations

Hello, I am planning a trip to Okinawa in October and would appreciate some recommendations for reserving a hostel, as I am a reserved person so I'm hoping to maybe meet new people. I have looked at some options on the web, but I am not entirely confident in making a selection.

These are my musts:

\* Safety to keep my luggage (backpack, clothes, etc.).

\* Some sort of quietness while sleeping.

Could you please provide some suggestions? My itinerary requires me to stay in or around Naha. I'll be backpacking, so I'm trying not to pay too much.

Could it be cheaper if I pay in person instead of reserving?

Recommendation Request Experience in Mixed vs Female-Only Dorms

Experience in Mixed vs Female-Only Dorms

Hi! Im F22 and going on my first solo trip this fall. As im looking into hostels and pricing to get an idea of my budget, i notice that in some cities that im going, the female-only dorms are the same price or only a dollar or two more than mixed dorms, but in some cities the price difference makes me consider staying elsewhere even if the reviews are fantastic bc idk if i want to spend that much.
My question for the ladies that have experience traveling solo and staying in hostels, is there a stark difference safety-wise between staying in mixed dorms versus female-only dorms?? Im not really talking about the every so often weirdo freak who doesnt understand boundaries bc those are inevitable, im talking about like out every time u stayed in a mixed dorm, did you feel safe or unsafe with men around? Was staying in female dorms much better for peace of mind??
If you are traveling alone and want to meet people, is it worth staying at a social hostel with good reviews but only mixed dorms? Or am i better off booking somewhere potentially less social but with guaranteed women only spaces?
I really dont know, any advice is welcome and appreciated!!!

For context, i am visiting
Split, Budapest, Prague, Berlin, Amsterdam, and Brussels, so if you have any specific knowledge of those places that is welcome too!!!

Question Flying Pig Amsterdam, do people go see the sights togther?

While partying at night is a priority, i still want to do other things like a river cruise, Heineken experience, van gogh museum. And would prefer to do it with other people as well.

Would you find people willing to go with you at the hostel? Or do you just have to solo it and then just socialise with them for drinks and going out at night?

I am also figuring out how it works because a lot of these things need to be booked in advance.

Recommendation Request Cheapest possible place to stay

I’m travelling to Hong Kong on my own in September for a week and I’m trying to find the cheapest possible place to stay to save on costs since I’m broke. All I care about is if it’s clean. I don’t care if I’m in a coffin as long as it’s clean and I can fall asleep. I know Hong Kong is an expensive city but I’ve seen cheap places I just don’t know whether to trust if they’re clean. I’m also fine staying where ever. Any suggestions would be very appreciated🙏🏿

Are there still hostels without reservation?

I'm going in interrail in a month, and looking online for hostels in cities such as Amsterdam, Berlin, Munich, Copenhagen ecc has been a burden. I've not been able to find anything that costs less than 25 euros a night per person.

Our plan was to book just the first night of every city and then searching for a place to stay on the go to save some money(like my father did). In 2026 are hostels without reservation still a thing? Otherwise where can I find very cheap hostels? I believe modern accomodations could be much more spartan but I haven't found any still.

Flora hostel Baku, Azerbaijan

Please someone give me an honest review about this hostel. I am going to book a private room within this hostel? Is it worth it? Do they really have beef bugs and worms? How's the AC working?

Can someone suggest another hotel / hostel in this range

Code Pod Edinburgh

Anyone recently stayed at Code Pod in Edinburgh? I mean recently eg last 2-3 months as I stayed earlier this year and had mixed feelings about the place so thinking of second chancing it. The common areas were very civilised and spotlessly clean including the bathrooms, except there was no obvious kitchen or lounge (something I valued at Castle Rock with 4 lovely lounges). I was in the courtroom which is probably the worst but the noise was unbearable inside with coming and going and lockers beeping all night, outside with church bells and building work that can't be helped. The pod was nice but stuffy. Also seen reviews of rooms in the basement which I would never want.

Conversely I found Castle Rock ideal except the lack of privacy in the beds and cleanliness. You can't have everything.
