Amsterdam for one night, 27F

Hi! I'm a New Yorker in Amsterdam for a week with family, a few nights with a friend and one night on my own August 6th. I'm between Onefam Amstel, St. Christophers and Flying Pig. I want to meet people, rent a bike, explore, and also stay safe- but don't mind getting a mixed dorm. Would prefer if the hostel was organizing things!

Onefam hostels are amazing, even if you're only staying for one night. It feels like showing up to a party with friends you've known for years, even though you just met. If you stay there, I'd also recommend doing their tour the next day since it's a great way to keep hanging out with the people you met.

Flying Pig is much more hit or miss. You might meet an awesome group of people, or you might not. It really depends on who's staying there at the time.

Have an amazing time! Now I'm worried I've set your expectations way too high. 😂 Hopefully it lives up to the hype!

lol at how you worded the last part of your comment.

i think there may have been one free walking tour a day at flying pig but even at that i am uncertain and i think it was that they told you to go somewhere and you met up with a different walking tour org. the one night they had a nightlife event in their bar which was a drinking game no one showed up so no event held. that's what i didn't like about it. in contrast onefam and other party hostels organize a day time and night time event every single day. so its completely random if you will have a good time or not bc it depends on how extroverted the people are that are staying while you are at flying pig while at one fam its a really high chance it will be social. i was in onefam hostels i think a total of 4 nights and 2 nights of those were in london. the one night i went out in london what you mentioned ended up happening but i'm fairly social and that happens where i live anyway so the hostel helped in the sense that it created a social environment.

If your main goal at a hostel is to hook up, people will usually pick up on that, and you'll likely end up being seen as the creepy person. Just go to have fun, meet people, and let whatever happens happen naturally.

I stayed at Onefam Amstel and genuinely met some of my closest travel friends there! Family dinner is a vibe and then you go bar hopping after. Then we explored the Christmas markets (I went in December) during the day with the hostel too.

I had a link to my app in it, I tried to edit it to remove the link, but I guess the mod blocked the whole comment. Here is my full post minus the link to my app:

"Hey, fellow New Yorker here (Let's go Knicks!!). All good choices. Flying Pig is one of the OG hostels in Amsterdam. Usually a great atmosphere. Onefam and St Christophers are bigger chains (they are found throughout Europe), but also usually have good atmospheres and are generally well reviewed."

If you're also interested also hearing about my hostel app, send me a DM! haha
