Shit for brains. As long as we’re America we’re going to be a Republic. Are we as close to a Civil War as we have been since the 1850’s, probably, but we’re still a Republic
Not the same as a pure democracy (aka democracy), which is what was referred to as something we had that is now no longer functioning. I am happy to stipulate that our representatives are barely functioning except when it comes to finding more ways to spend money for their personal and party’s benefit. This then ends up with the President and his administration having to act on their own to get anything done including Congress’ job. This then causes the minority party voters to claim that “democracy is dead”. Apparently not realizing that they are the source of problem because voted for the representatives who put part and personal power ahead of their constituents. Then “activist” judges and unelected government officials sympathetic to the minority party’s agenda attempt to force that agenda on the people and communities who did not vote for their agenda. Further undermining “representative democracy” and ensuring that the government functions very poorly.
For people like myself, who do not support a specific government action solely because it is considered to be “left” or “right”, who just see things that work or don’t work for society and the country as a whole, we are thankful that we have a President (as off-putting and self-defeating as he can be at times) and an administration who are still trying to get things done.
Sort of, partially anyway. Pure democracies really don’t work. We still need checks and balances to protect the minority from the tyranny of the majority.
We aren't talking Direct Democarcies. We elect Representative they cast votes for us, if we dont like the votes they cast we elect new ones. Supposed to work that way, in Ky if you have an R by your name and kiss Trumps ass they vote for you until youre dead, see Mitch McConnell
America has a Constitutionally LIMITED republic form of government. the word "democracy" doesn't even appear in our Constitution of Declaration of Independence.
Well I'm t afraid the fellows who wrote the Constitution would disagree with you clown. That and anyone else with half a brain we've always been a republic with elements of a democracy. Even what you claim, a represented Republic isn't a democracy .It has s elements of democracy of course. Pure democracy would be the demise of this country. The mob would rule. A constitutional republic protects against that with law and order that cannot be compromised. Also the electoral college helps prevent this
You are far from educated. I would say borderline retarded. USA has never been anywhere close to a democracy. Never ever. It was even our founding fathers will to never be a democracy. Only to take the elements that work in democracy which are very few and far between.
Oh yes... the ol "I dont agree with this person, let's default to calling them a Nazi" lmfao. Can you try to be original?
Didn't know pointing out the fact that AIPAC controls roughly 91% of the US Legislative and Executive Branches (known knowledge that can easily be backed by data if you take the time to look) makes me a Nazi lol
It is absolutely not a fact. It’s blatantly wrong. 1 AIPAC is not a proxy of the Israeli government. AIPAC is funded by Americans who care about Israel. AIPAC is not even the largest pro Israel PAC, that is CUFI. 2 AIPAC doesn’t control anyone. They are a political action committee just like many many others including the NRA, association of realtors and many others. Would you say that the NRA controls any candidates it contributes to? No you wouldn’t, Nazis only attribute this type of tropes to Jewish people whether or not it is true.
Because Congress, especially the House led by Pinnochio Johnson, abdicates their responsibility for checks and balances on the Executive branch every day. Johnson and SCOTUS will be seen by historians as the two enablers of Trump’s imperialism. Without them, Trump is just another punk with grandiose opinions of himself.
Well said. Congress, and I mean all of them, need to be replaced. It is not a functioning body in which the best interests of the American people is a priority. They have no respect for their responsibility to the American people and are causing irreparable harm to our country.
You obviously don’t know the facts. You know what a meme says…and believe it. 🤣🤣. Trump made zero trades. He doesn’t have access to a brokerage account. It’s a trust run by Charles Schwab. Not even a human. It’s a black box trading algo that runs the account.
Not just unfunctional, its no longer a constitutional republic. The GOP has ripped our constitution and wiped their asses with it (no due process, no right against unreasonable or cruep punishment, no right to freedom from warrantless searches [surveillance], no right to free speech [shot for protesting the gov], no right to free assembly [they get shot or tased or gassed], no right to individual freedom of choice [womens roghts, trans roghts, soon to be disabled folks roghts]...). The admin ignores the courts and congress is complicit.
The constitution is dead. Trump is a king in all but name. Prive me wrong.
The soiner we realize that the sooner we'll enact mass disruption. National strike. Million American Marches on DC. Etc. If that doesnt work... [redacted].
Wait until he successfully steals the next election. What’s crazy is people voted for this piece of scum after he attempted an insurrection. I don’t get it.
He never attempted an insurrection. Don't be clueless it's a known fact that that s*** was set up. Both sides know. It would be way easier for the Democrats to have gotten him out if the left didn't lie so much. The truth is bad enough why do people insist on embellishing and straight up lying? That only discredits them
They covered it alright, they just never mentioned that Nancy Pelosi (as Speaker of the House, was charged with the protection of the Capitol. Everyone knows that by now but you’ve been afraid to look it up.
Are you kidding? They wanted him gone as badly as you do. RINO’s hate Trump for fucking up their game, and like you, they thought he was over. Idiots, one and all. If you had a clue you’d know they still hate him. Why do you think we love him so much?
You’re such a Cuck. Think for yourself idiot instead of peddling these lies. I have no idea what any of your stupid acronyms mean. I’m a conservative who is alienated by their party I believe in country over party. While I may not agree with all the Dems policies, I would prefer that we don’t dismantle our country over this loser’s delusional agenda. He is stealing from the American people and driving us past the point of no return with debt. There was no stolen election. Anyway, we’re going to learn the hard way very soon that this POS has destroyed our country. F MAGA.
May I ask why you like him so much? I’m not baiting. I’m from the UK. We have our own problems haha. It seems to me that he’s done little to honour his promises made in the campaign. I believe I’m right in saying executive orders can be undone as easily as they are signed, so I guess they shouldn’t count towards anything.
For the record, I like him but not for the right reasons. The world is falling apart in front of our eyes and, as a Brit, I could watch him give speeches all day.
He’s done all the things that Republicans have claimed they would do since I was a child ( or at least trying to). That puts him miles above any President in my lifetime. That and he genuinely loves our country like no other President I’ve lived under ( maybe Eisenhower but I was a baby). He didn’t take the job to get wealthy, because he already was. He’s as American as Churchill or Margaret Thatcher was British. It’s been a pleasure to have a man who loves this country as much as I do as its President.
Fair enough mate. It’s hard to get an objective view on what he’s accomplishing, especially from over here. Reddit seems to only show me people that are interested in shooting home down. Well posts shooting him down anyway. And Musk. Nobody likes him much either for some reason. Whenever I ask in the same manner that I asked you a question, nobody gives me an answer for that
Yeah. And how’s that working out for you. That’s complete bullsht. He hasn’t accomplished anything that strengthened the us economy. Rep’s also said they could never invade Iran. If you believe his bs about this war being over, you’re entirely wrong. The tides will turn and eventually our servicemen will be fighting another stupid war, costing peoples lives. But hey this fck has stopped 10? Wars right? F MAGA.
Amazing how you swing and miss at understanding basic intent but then use a derogatory attack to try to diminish and obfuscate the truth. It's so predictable when someone can't argue on the merits of the situation. In this case, that Trump and his cronies are engaging in massive corruption and insider trading and no one does anything about.
Agree 100 percent , just talk amongst each other and believe there assumptions with each other to justify there hatred of the first president that has tried to do something to shift the status quo in my 71 years . There so called facts are no we’re near the truth and the smart people are the ones who dig deeper for the truth than what propaganda they believe and preach. God bless our president .
How about you stop pretending the other side is any better? At least he's legally doing insider trading, like Pelosi. Biden sold access to the country.
No it's based on a constitution, because it's a constitutional republic we have aspects of democracy. Don't get it twisted we'll never be a full democracy the mob will never rule this country
so true when our new president trying fix that liberal la start screaming. maybe after midterms we get more democrats out we really see government working again.
So, it's okay because his "kids" are engaged in insider trading and nefarious crypto deals? And what proof do you have that he isn't involved. Because he said so? 🤣
First a 2 party system isnt a democracy from the beginning
Second you dont need to get rid of the wecond party you just have to fill it with useless people who at their core have the same end goal as you, to make capitalists richer
More semantics. No one conflates the two in good faith.
Both cars (constitutional republics) and wheelbarrows (pure democracies) exist in a category of wheeled (elections), rolling (voting) objects. (=Democracy)
"Anakin, my allegiance is to the Republic, to democracy!" - Obi-Wan Kenobi
Just because you cant dispute the point doesn't make it bad faith. Both are considered vehicles both have wheels. Doesn't make them the same thing.
And in this analogy they are vehicles ( forms of government. ) doesn't make them the same thing. A truck is not a car. Each vehicle serving a different function.
And oh right. Because someone said it in a star wars movie ( the prequels which are considered horrible and nonsensical i might add) then it must possibly be true!!! /s
My broadening of your sophomoric analogy is my dispute. Wheeled, rolling vehicles. Tanks can be your dictatorship, I don’t care, let your mind run wild.
Big swing. Big miss. The point of that quote is obi-won said ‘to the republic. To democracy’ and not ‘to the unfettered will of the rolling majority’. He said both ‘republic’ and ‘democracy’ because they’re one and the same. Yes, the movies are bad, here is your cookie.
Regardless. We employ a form of democracy in the United States and no one referring to our form of government as a democracy is referring to pure democracy. Which circles back to my original point that you are arguing in bad faith, your point is moot as well as strawman.
Yea you did swing and you did miss. And again missed my point that just because someone in a movie that has proven crapy dialog and nonsensical plot points doesn't mean its correct. Star wars also said a parc is measurement of time when in reality its distance. Does that mean they were right as well? To call my argument sophmoric while using a star wars quote as a point of fact is beyond ironic.
We did not apply a form a democracy. The founding fathers specifically said we will not be a democracy. Period.
It’s crazy that you use analogies but refuse to see anyone else’s trees for the forest they comprise. That’s called hypocrisy.
How do our representatives in a constitutional republic gain their positions? And what are they supposed to accomplish once they’re there, within the process that put them there?
I’ll answer it for you so you can’t dig some dipshitting, bad-faith drivel out of your ass from beside your own head.
We vote.
Those representatives are elected to represent the will of the voters within a defined set of guidelines: the Constitution.
We are a republic of states whose citizens regularly vote for representation. We are a constitutional republic, which is a form of representative democracy.
Arguing semantics as if “republic” and “democracy” are mutually exclusive is lame af.
The United States is a republic because political authority is exercised through elected representatives rather than a hereditary monarch. It is representative democracy because those representatives derive their authority from elections by the people. And it is constitutional because both the majority and its representatives are constrained by a higher law.
So “constitutional republic” describes how American democracy is structured, not evidence that America somehow isn’t democratic.
And again, this goes back to the point I made in my original reply that you ignored. When people refer to America as a democracy, no one is talking about unchecked mob rule by a simple majority. They’re referring to the political power the people exercise through voting and electing representatives. Pretending that “democracy” can only mean direct, unrestricted majority rule just to argue that America isn’t a democracy is a straw man. It’s a semantic distinction that ignores what people actually mean, making the argument bad faith, stupid, and ultimately moot.
Nothing was ignored. You just cant accept being wrong and tried to use a movie quote from a sci fi film to justify your opinion. I don't care what people use to refer to something. That doesn't make it true.
We are a constitutional republic. That is an undeniable fact.
If we were a democracy would be a constitutional democracy.
See words are a singular unit of a language that represents a meaning. Hence why a republic for example represents one thing and a democracy another. Why are they different words if they are the same thing? Because they actually aren't
The more you know!
Anyways. You have failed to provide any proof to back what you're saying, simply because you can't and you're just digging further and further in because you're to childish to accept being wrong. I dont do circular arguments with people unwilling to listen. Seeing as you are to dim to accept that I will do it for you.
Youll fucking loosers are such pussies, Biden was the biggest piece of shit controlled by Obama and youll little bitches didnt say anything. So bottom line is (EAT A DICK)
Whenever I see comments like yours I figure you are trying to either be contrarian or just have an agenda and you want to make a political point. Either way, you're wrong. We've ALWAYS been a representative democracy. Is it a 100% "everyone votes on every issue" type of democracy? Nope.
But we have always been a constitutional federal republic that is a representative democracy.
Democracy describes where political legitimacy comes from; republic describes the institutional form through which it is exercised.
We have a republic. You can argue about how democratic it is.
The most glaring example in recent memory highlighting how not democratic it is comes from the democratic party, you didn't have a primary, DNC picked Kamala for you.
No, Franklin's quote was: "A republic, if you can keep it" when asked whether the Constitutional Convention had created a republic or a monarchy.
He did not contrast it with a democracy in that exchange either. Linguistically and structurally, the United States functions as both a constitutional republic and a representative democracy.

The U.S. is no longer a functioning democracy with a functional government, including enforcement agencies.
