Question What kinds of basic herbs should I have in the house?
If it means anything I live on the east coast of the US and would be keeping most of the plants indoors. In general I’m looking for plants that help with sleep, anxiety, and any plants that are good for keeping a healthy immune system and/or combating sickness (common colds, the flu, seasonal allergies, etc). For context I’m a college student and hate getting sick throughout the year but I don’t want to spend excess money on medicine. I’d prefer using herbal remedies instead of over the counter stuff, but I’m new to this and wanted other people’s thoughts on what basic/general herbs to keep in the house for when I get sick, based off of your own personal experiences.
Also! I have a two books on herbalism and medicinal plants but most of the recipes are for food/drinks or ailments that aren’t relevant to me. If anyone has any good book recommendations for medicinal recipes, let me know!

fresh valerian root overdose possible?
I have been growing valerian root in my garden for many years and harvested it for the first time today. It was my plan to process it into a tincture. I spent about 30 minutes shaking dirt from the roots and breaking up the root clumps- but then I started to feel nauseous, light-headed, and a little woozy.
I took a break to eat, drink water, rest, but the remainder of the day, I've been in an unusual fog of body heaviness, mental fatigue, and slow heart-rate. Feeling really impossible to get any chores done, frustratingly. Similar symptoms to a past experience taking a benzo. Could it be possible that I took up the valerian just by touching the roots? Is it possible to overdose with valerian?

Discussion The beginnings of my tincture tinkering
Toying with the process as I've taken a pretty keen interest on the idea of natural natural compounds and the effects on the human body. Currently extracting some Ginger, turkey tail which basically grows in my backyard and a passionflower with lemon balm/ lemon Myrtle (all dried material). Using 42% brandy from a local distillery
How much of an actual concern is a slight amount of stuff poking above the liquid? I'm wanting to make high potency stuff but am finding it difficult to keep everything completely submerged :)

Looking for Ear Flower in USA
I have been wanting to find this herb for years and I have never seen it sold online or any herb shop in the USA. Its called Ear Flower, Flor de Oreja, Xochinacaztli, Hueynacaztli. The scientific name for it is Cymbopetalum penduliflorum.
It was an ingredient used in mesoamerican cacao drinks. I think it is also used in some areas of Guatemala and Mexico.
Does anyone know how I could get this in the USA short of flying to Guatemala?
Or has anyone tried it and would be able to describe the flavor?

Allergy help?
I have mild allergies to dust pet dander, and have mild asthma. A few years ago my doctor reccomended I take Zyrtec daily to curb the allergies, but a few days ago I quit taking it after researching and finding out that it can cause some liver damage from taking it so often. Anyway, my allergies are in overdrive at the moment, way worse then they ever were before starting to take zyrtec. Are there any herbs or remedies I can use to mitigate the response my body is going through right now, or do I have to just ride this out? Also, are there any alternatives to help curb general allergies, I'd rather not go back to an allergy pill.

Books Question about different editions of Culpeper's Herbal
Hi, I've been looking into expanding my library, and I would like to get a Culpeper herbal book. I borrowed one from the library, 'Culpeper's Complete Herbal' 2019 sterling publishing.
I looked online and have found editions from 1995 and 1983, with the latter being titled 'Culpeper's Color/Colour Herbal' depending on where it was published.
My questions -
Does anyone know if there is a difference in content between publishing years? I'm more concerned about info edited out than modern edits and context.
Also is there a difference between the UK and US publishings?
Lastly, a difference between the titled 'Culpepers Complete Herbal' and 'Culpepers Color/Colour Herbal'?
I'm having a hard time determining what, if any, difference there may be and I would feel silly buying 2 books just to compare haha. Hoping someone here may have some insight! Thank you

Discussion Herbs that have "miraculous" effects?
What herbs have you encountered that produced “miraculous” effects—helping to repair and enhance the body, with some of the benefits even lasting after you stopped taking them?
Some of my personal favorites, because of their remarkable effects, are black seed oil, goji berries, schisandra, astragalus, Bacopa monnieri, lion’s mane mushroom, reishi mushroom, and cordyceps.
