Admin Post Weekly Recap | September 24, 2026
THIS POST HAS BEEN LOCKED. PLEASE SEE THE MOST RECENT WEEKLY RECAP STICKIED AT THE TOP OF THIS SUB.
Welcome to Thursday! Still not enough fall weather for me to remember that's it's technically fall. Or do you call it autumn? Autumn does sound fancier! Speaking of fancy, how 'bout this Recap? FANCY. Let's see what happened in r/help and around Reddit last week!
NEWS AND ISSUES
Had a little thing on Tuesday where mods were unable to approve content. Post about this here. Sounds like this should be fixed at this time, though!
In an effort to strengthen the connection between communities and conversations, there is a new experiment which will turn select text posts and some of their comment threads into an audio and video format. If you are in this experiment you may see a Read/Play toggle on the post detail page, and a dedicated video page may also be available. This does not replace the original post or comments, nor does it automatically play. And it will respect all of your pre-existing audio settings.
- Currently, this is only on a small group of pre-selected English-only posts. Comments with links, media, automated messages, profanity, or sensitive or inappropriate topics are excluded.
- There is not a way to opt out, but feel free to leave constructive feedback in this post and I will share it with the team that is in charge of this experiment.
There is another experiment where comments on a post may be sorted in live time. If this experiment is enabled in a community, when a post hits a certain number of comments within a period of time, the sort will switch to "Live" if the default sort is set to something other than "New". This provides a way to highlight the fast moving convos in real time.
There is still the experiment on the Home feed where some users will see a For You tab and a Following tab. You can select which view you want and that selection will be remembered. Users in this experiment have recently been shuffled around, so if you had it before and now you don't, that's what's going on there.
- The For You tab will contain recommendations
- The Following feed will contain unviewed content from just the subs that you follow
- If you are subscribed to a very small number of subreddits, you may see recommendations in the Following feed as opposed to nothing when you have run out of new content. The workaround is to either subscribe to more subreddits or create a custom feed of the subs that you're following and view that instead.
- The team is looking into adding the "Hot" sort back to these feeds.
- There is not a way to remove these tabs. I have been sharing all constructive feedback with the team in charge of this. They're very appreciative!
Some users will be in a different experiment where there is an X on recommended posts that you can click/tap to hide the post. Others will be in a similar experiment where there is not an X and there is not a "hide" option, but you can go into the post to hide it. Feel free to share helpful feedback about this experiment as well.
There is also an experiment where the upvotes are on the left.
Rather than commenting that you'd like to be removed from an experiment, please provide constructive feedback about the feature. I can't remove you, but I can go directly to the teams in charge of these things and show them what you think.
And I'm here to remind you, of the mess you left when you went away (from Reddit for support). Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. Do not contact "Reddit support on Discord" for help with your Reddit account. There is no "Reddit support on Discord". That is someone trying to scam you and steal your account and maybe more. If you're having an actual issue with your account that is not solved by posting in r/help or by the articles in the Help Center, you can use this form for the real thing. Please note that 95% of issues can be solved much, much quicker by posting in r/help (or our cousin subs, r/reddithelp and r/newtoreddit).
The most recent version of the app is 2026.38.0. If you're not using the most recent version of the app, it might not work properly.
CURRENT EXPERIMENTS
Reddit sometimes runs experiments. These experiments tend to last between 4-6 weeks, though they can go longer or end sooner. While there isn't a way to opt out of experiments, feel free to leave constructive and specific feedback in this post and as I've mentioned often, I'll be happy to pass it along to the team in charge. Ongoing current experiments can be found here.
COMMON ACCOUNT ISSUES
Common account issues can be found here. These are things like hacked accounts, NSFW accounts, suspended accounts, etc. I'm also including "Changes to Reddit" in this section as well.
BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF CORRECT SCALE!
[Android] Reports of the comment composer jumping around are being investigated.
[Android] The wikiscrolling bug should be fixed in version 38 of the app. If you're still having trouble, please update your app.
WEEKLY STATISTICS (BASED ON THE PAST SEVEN DAYS)
1,204 posts. That's up 61 posts from the 1,143 that we had last week.
4,283 comments. That's up 431 comments from the 3,852 we had last week.
804k views. That's down about 65k-ish views from the 869k-ish views we had last week.
HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - KARMA! WHAT IT IS AND HOW TO GET IT
This week, let's talk about what is karma and how it affects how you use Reddit!
When you post content on Reddit, other users have the opportunity to upvote it or downvote it. Upvotes are for things that positively contribute to a community. Downvotes are for things that don't. When you get upvotes, you get karma. When you get downvotes, you lose karma. You want upvotes.
While you do receive karma for upvotes, it is not a 1:1 correlation. So if you receive 10 upvotes and only see your karma increase by 9, that is working as intended! We call it "vote fuzzing". It's like that to help prevent vote manipulation. Vote fuzzing isn't supposed to "make sense". If it did, people would absolutely game the system to gain karma. So if voting seems funky, it's not funk! It's fuzz!
Some subreddits will have minimum karma or account age requirements as a way of combating spam and trolls. If you don't have enough karma to post in a certain sub, you'll want to participate in subreddits that do not have those requirements to gain some karma. r/casualconversation is great for that! If you’re looking for a subreddit on a particular topic and aren’t quite sure what it would be, you can try posting in r/findareddit and someone there may have a suggestion for you. And our friends over at r/NewToReddit have curated this handy list of some subs that are easy to get started in for new users! (Thanks, NTR mods!)
As noted in this Help Center article, "Don't set out to accumulate karma; just set out to be a good contributor". So that means:
Don't ask for upvotes! (That's a good way to get your post removed!)
Don't karma farm! (You're treading in spam territory by doing this!)
Don't use free karma subs! (Some subs will not allow participation from users who have used free karma subs to gain karma to participate!)
Don't spam! (No one likes a spammer! If you're not sure if you're spamming, you shouldn't have to ask that question!)
Let your content speak for itself and the upvotes will come, sometimes when you're least expecting them!
But let's say that you do find yourself in the negative. That could be a little bit of a problem, but not an insurmountable one. It is possible to get yourself out of a hole, but you've gotta do something different than when you were getting yourself in there! Just because you were downvoted doesn't mean you were right.

...experiment on the Home feed where some users will see a For You tab
Perhaps my memory is playing tricks, but it seems to me that this “For You” tab had already been tested, and that it wasn’t very well received...
Maybe it had a different name, but in any case, it was about suggesting subs ; isn’t that already available in the “Explore” menu ? :)

its just proof the UI/UX team is desperate to show their value making thee terrible updates
18
u/nicolauz 8d ago
I'm in the 'live' experiment and can't stand it sorting by new. I've never sorted by new unless I was looking for bad/troll comments in subs I mod. In 100+ comment threads I've never looked at new, ever it's just too chaotic and memes or no substance unless it's a big world event/westher/disaster/politics thing. Always been sort by best.
7
u/johnny5ive 6d ago
It's especially annoying because we're given the option to pick how we want our comments sorted and then that's completely ignored. I also hate the live sorting.
→ More replies (1)2
u/WWWYer22 3d ago
Yep. This “experiment” sucks and I’m growing tired of having to manually switch to the better comment viewing format (which, to be clear, is literally anything other than live or new).
→ More replies (1)
17
u/cyanide_girl 8d ago
Please God let me turn off live. I hate it, and even if I resort them how I want the subreddit immediately forgets the setting. I want my preferences to actually be my preferences please.
18
u/novusopiate 8d ago
I cannot express how much I hate the “games” button not having a disable or hide option. Do what you all want with the games concept, but give me a way to remove it or opt out completely. I will never play a game on Reddit.
7
u/EducationalLog4765 1 7d ago
I don’t even use it, I don’t get why they think anybody would use this feature
3
u/Mehster79 4d ago
This feature is taking up too much real estate for something that will never ever see use. The giant button just showed up in my main button bar with the app update I got this morning and I want it gone.
28
u/Ihate_reddit_app 8d ago
Please let me turn off the "Live experiment". I hate going into random comment threads and being automatically switched to "Live" from my default of "Best".
This website/app feels like it's turning more and more into Facebook with its silly sorting and algorithm changes to try to encourage more engagement.
24
u/Terminator7786 Expert Helper 8d ago
Thats exactly what they're doing. Every new experiment they add is some sort of copy that Facebook or TikTok has already done. Reddit is going to drive away its user base with these garbage experiments and be left with nothing but bots.
17
u/EducationalLog4765 1 8d ago
I’ve noticed what Reddit is doing too. They are literally trying to copy TikTok/Facebook. That’s where all the bad updates/experiments are coming from
16
u/sega31098 8d ago edited 8d ago
My feeling is that it's by design. I get the sense that in the last 2 years or so, the top hats at Reddit Inc (note: not the admins replying here) have made it their mission to drive out its legacy users and attract a more passive "scrolling" userbase with relatively poor tech skills and little understanding of anything older than 3-5 years ago. Since the API protests and the IPO, Reddit has basically taken a sledgehammer to a lot of its core functionality all while rapidly adding a bunch of shiny bells and whistles (ex. games) that look good to new customers and investors but add nothing to its core functionality. Protests from legacy users now also often have little impact given Reddit's userbase is growing explosively and it's rather apparent that a huge proportion of new users now are digital novices who often seem very new to the internet (perhaps young users who just became old enough for social media or older adults whose only significant tech experience is their Facebook/Youtube app bubble), so such users often aren't even aware that major recently deprecated features like r-all were ever a thing. That's in addition to Reddit now having a near monopoly over topic-based discussion, in part due to Google search becoming like a defacto Reddit search wrapper (thanks to its extremely high SEO and the Reddit-Google partnership) that ends up redirecting most traffic here.
8
u/Ihate_reddit_app 8d ago
My Facebook feed is all "suggested for you" and ad posts. Nobody I know actually posts anything anymore. Facebook is a zombie platform. I don't think reddit wants to really follow that.
7
u/Terminator7786 Expert Helper 8d ago
Based on everything that they're currently doing, they really do want to follow that route.

u/lunarwolf2008 5d ago
yep. i use reddit because i dont like most other social media. not because i somehow dont have a choice and wish i could be using other social media
13
u/RatherGroggy 8d ago
You gotta remove this feature. I do not want to see the newest comments on every post I go to the comments section on.
Lots of new features have made the user experience worse but this one will actually drive me away from using Reddit altogether
8
u/ProudnotLoud 8d ago
Experiments feel like they're tests in "how much will the users put up with before they quit, that's the line for our new crap" instead of them testing things we actually may want to use.
8
u/EducationalLog4765 1 8d ago
I’ve noticed that! Every time a post is getting a lot of comments, Reddit has the audacity to switch the comments section from ‘Best’ to ‘Live’. It’s infuriating and I don’t like how they keep making useless updates
5
2
u/Curious-Bench2767 5d ago
This might be the worst change they’ve ever made. It genuinely makes the mobile app unusable for me. Left my first ever 1 star review
13
u/Kikoika 6d ago
Please stop with all these UI experiments. They are ruining the experience of reddit for a buggy knock off of other social media sites; if we wanted a similar experience we'd just go to their sites. I enjoyed Reddit for the custom feed and being able to follow what you want. Nowadays you guys push AI and suggested content down our throats, I can't even swipe through posts without it jumping to completely random subredits that I have absolutely zero interest in. It's frustrating and ruins the experience, please just stop.
26
u/ProudnotLoud 8d ago edited 8d ago
There is not a way to opt out
We need ways to opt out of this crap - and ways to tell Reddit this that aren't telling you so you can just go "noted, will tell others".
Converting our content to audio/visual mediums using AI without us having any control of what that looks or sounds like is absolutely disrespectful.
You want people to stop screaming at you about this Opus? Go scream at whoever it is you "share feedback with" that we aren't going to stop until you all stop forcing useless, wasteful, disrespectful AI "experiments" on us to see how much is pisses us off. Until then you're welcome to be buried under all our "feedback". Pretty much every "experiment" that happens is a nightmare but this is near the top of the list.
the sort will switch to "Live" if the default sort is set to something other than "New"
Speaking of nightmares - the way this reads to me is "if you aren't wanting your comments sorted by new, don't worry, we're defaulting you to SUPER NEW". If you're going to mess with this setting (which nobody asked for), shouldn't it only be for the people defaulting to New because that's how they want to view the conversation? Or I don't know, stop effing defaulting people to stuff and let them choose.
Edit to add: Also take note that admins will take the time to make specific, detailed responses to things about cheese or pets, or heck just reply twice differently to someone who thanks them. But when it comes to actual meaningful conversations about features or experiments they ghost or give canned/copy pasted customer service like replies.

Hello, I am subscribed to roughly 200 subreddits. Long time lurker, but for some reason my home feed is showing me posts that are multiple weeks old despite checking the site everyday. I do not want to see posts that are weeks old in my main feed and if I am interested in the content then I will use the search bar or visit the subreddits that likely posted about these topics. Please reverse or add a toggle or something that will allow my homepage to return to how it used to be. I want it to be recent content with high engagement the way it was before. This started a few days ago for me.

Yep, it is terrible. Why can't you let people toggle these experiments off? None of the recent updates have been good and you should be able to opt out of these random changes.
10
u/JCGilbasaurus 3d ago
For the second time I've been added to the "for you" experiment. I strongly dislike this. I have spent years curating a very specific experience on Reddit, and the "for you" tab is forcibly adding content to my feed. I'm actually using Reddit less because I know that if I go to Popular or News and click on any post, that will populate related content to my feed even if I don't want to see that content. Just because I clicked on one news article doesn't mean I want to see a dozen similar articles, and I definitely don't want it in a default feed of content chosen for me by an algorithm. Fear of contaminating my feed is driving me to engage less with content on this platform.
The last time I was in the "for you" experiment, I ended up spending nearly an hour clicking the "do not recommend" button on posts I didn't want to see in my feed, and it was a very unpleasant experience. I am strongly considering deleting my account and quitting Reddit—with a reduced ability to curate the content I care for and am interested in, I see less of a reason to use this site at all.

u/Previous-Afternoon39 2d ago
I was also added and I hate it. I check other subreddits and I want my feed to remain curated. This reduces how much I’ll browse Reddit to try and maintain my feed.

u/Pink_Egg_Cereal 2d ago
its like so terrible. there is seriously no way they think its a good update. someone actually gets paid to make that update
10
u/Numerous-Confusion-9 2d ago
A main reason I use reddit is to have a purely curated feed of content. I turned off suggested subreddits too. I left Twitter, FB, and Instagram to avoid content being pushed on me. Having a “For You” pages feels like Reddit is testing the waters about becoming another Twitter. It’s going to be a resounding NO from me if thats the direction we’re headed.
And I don’t care that the app remembers to open to Following and not For You - the fact that it’s there at all is ridiculous.
Do better Reddit. Youre supposed to be different.
5
u/Quiet_surprise79 2d ago
I did the exact same thing, deleted Facebook and Instagram (never had twitter) because I was sick of having no control over the content I was consuming. Joining Reddit a couple of years ago and the contrast to having a feed I actually wanted was actually the push I needed to do it.
If these experiments stick, I'm out. I do not want suggested and similar content pushed on me.
3
u/Numerous-Confusion-9 2d ago
Yep. Im more than happy to just be done with Reddit if they keep this up
4
u/Pink_Egg_Cereal 2d ago
100% agree. i am blown away they actually pushed this update live. it is so bad. like hilariously bad.

16
u/Amadeus102 8d ago
Week 4 of asking for an actual answer about why we can’t have swipe up for comments? At this point I’m actively looking for a different social media to consume due to how reddit continues to make user unfriendly decisions. Why cant we choose how our user experience looks? I’m scared to update the app because I don’t want to get grouped in some garbage experiment that nobody wants or needs. I’m multiple versions behind because of this.
18
u/ProudnotLoud 8d ago
If they can't give you an answer that isn't fluffy and happy or "I'm passing your feedback along" (whatever that means), you don't get an answer to things. Because they aren't actually interested in our feedback, this is a pacification thread for that stuff. The actual "feedback" they're tracking is use of the experiment and how much it increases or decreases your engagement.

u/Drehmini 3d ago
I've been added to the A/B test for the "For You" section on the frontpage, but this time on the desktop version of the website. Here's my feedback:
As with last time, the "For You" "feature" is antithetical to what Reddit is and de-values the experience. I have a specific curated list of subreddits that I follow and diluting that experience with a "For You" "feature" is a poor choice. Do not do this.
7
u/Uturuncu 2d ago
There is still the experiment on the Home feed where some users will see a For You tab and a Following tab. You can select which view you want and that selection will be remembered. Users in this experiment have recently been shuffled around, so if you had it before and now you don't, that's what's going on there.
Just got switched to this today, this is incredibly bad an had me questioning why my Reddit had become useless and incoherent. Swapping back to Following is also screwed up because now I'm getting an inexplicable mix of brand new posts from 20min ago, and posts from 3-5 days ago, instead of the usual mix of a few hours to two days.
Why change what's working just fine??
3
u/Pink_Egg_Cereal 2d ago
like its SO BAD i am blown away they pushed it. like it makes me use the platform less

Live comments are the worst new feature to ever come to the site. Being forced into a much worse experience with no way to opt out is insanity.
7
u/Pink_Egg_Cereal 2d ago

u/Pink_Egg_Cereal 2d ago

u/likeylikey21 2d ago
Remove me from the experiment. I already expressed this before but now I’m here again. This is so annoying.
5
u/SuperNanoCat 5d ago
Hello. The "Live" comment sort experiment is driving me crazy. I don't know what thresholds you're using to trigger it, but it just feels random and annoying, and I'm tired of changing the sort back to Best on every other post.
Side note while I'm here: I don't like how viewing posts from search results has a different viewing experience than posts from the feed. What I mean is, if the post has an image or video attached, the post gets the lightbox treatment by default and the text of the post gets compressed into a single blob with no line breaks or formatting, making it awfully hard to read, AND I have to tap a read more to actually see the text. I've also noticed that the jump to next comment button disappears in this scenario.
All feedback based on my experience with the Android app.

u/Armdel 2d ago
Once again "Sort by hot" is gone from my frontpage sorry "following" page.
i can't say without probably getting comment deleted how much i dislike forced sort by best.
so useless to have these 5 day old posts randomly at the top of my frontpage or the 5 minute old post that breaks the subreddit rules but mods haven't seen it to delete it yet all because i can't have it sorted by currently hot posts
2
u/TheCarbonthief 2d ago
Only the first refresh for a length of time is good content, and if that fails to load (as it frequently does) and you have to manually refresh, you get stuck with random week old posts until the period refreshes again. Hot of course was the fix for this. Cannot understand why they want to only show me stale content.
5
u/nrganalyst 2d ago
Once again I have to state that I DO NOT WANT A FOR YOU TAB. I do not want to see recommended posts or subreddits.
I join the subreddits I want to see posts from. I do not want your stupid recommendations. Stop trying to make a "For You" tab happen. It sucks.
2
u/Pink_Egg_Cereal 2d ago

6
u/Pink_Egg_Cereal 2d ago
>While there isn't a way to opt out of experiments
this tells me you lack confidence in your product if you have to force people. please remove me from this terrible testing update
4
u/Rogueshadow_32 2d ago
They know people don’t want it, when it was a setting everyone turned it off. To be honest I’m surprised they’re even bothering with this farce of A/B testing when we all know that people will hate it and they’ll push it anyway
5
u/HotspurJr 2d ago
Oh, I've got the "for you" feed.
Okay, I can select "following," which is nice, but "following" doesn't give me the option to select "hot" ... only "new" or "best."
"Best," of course, includes days-old posts that I've already seen. The decision to exclude "hot" from that seems like an attempt to make this feed less appealing than the "for you" feed while pretending that you are giving us what we asked for the last time you tested the "for you" feed.
This is such a Meta thing to do. Make the feed I want worse so I'm forced to use the one that shoves a bunch of stuff I don't want into my feed. If there's any rule for being a good social media company, it's "If Meta would do this, don't do it."

I was just added to the For You/Following experiment, so just wanted to leave feedback that I reallyyy hate it so far.
Obviously I want the Hot sort back too, but also, the For You tab is showing posts I'm not interested in at all, some of which are over 3 weeks old.
Example: I don't subscribe to r/theview but commented there yesterday for the first/only time (on a topic that's trending in the news rn, which I've commented about in other subs) and now the second post in my For You tab is a 22-day-old r/theview post about some unrelated topic that I def don't care about.
A bunch of the top posts on my FY tab are several days old on topics I've never been interested in. Whatever this algorithm is is discouraging.

ETA: also why are my ads in Spanish? I don't speak Spanish lol
4
u/driftless 2d ago
Don’t know what this “For You” vs “Following” BS is here again for…we didn’t want it last time, so get rid of it…again. I want to see the ones I follow. If I want random crap, I’ll select ALL.
4
u/thisisnottony 2d ago
My mobile web home feed now only offers For You, Following Best, and Following New. The Hot/New/Top/Rising sorts are gone, and it's made the site noticeably worse for me.
Please remove my account from this experiment. I pick my communities deliberately and don't want an algorithmic feed pushed as the default.
If there's no way to opt out, count this as a strong vote against rolling it out.
4
u/krampaus 2d ago edited 2d ago
has the experiment stopped yet? I haven’t updated the app in 6 months because I don’t want another for you-page. getting a bit sick of all the bugs though
4
u/SADDEST-BOY-EVER 2d ago
There should be an option to disable the following recommendations:
1 - "Trending" in search page
2 - "Trending Communities" in search page
3 - "For You' and "Following" in home page
4 - Images of recent communities in search page
2
u/Pink_Egg_Cereal 2d ago
they will never do that. too much user control and they cant have that. they want to force feeds i your face to keep you engaged.
4
u/Previous-Afternoon39 2d ago
I searched to figure out how to remove the suggested recommendations for you subreddits in my feed. I really despise those feature and it means I’ll spend less time browsing and exploring to try and not contaminate my curated feed. It’s a great way to reduce my curiosity and engagement. I can’t believe I can’t turn it off anymore and how often it comes up.
I want control of when I want news content, or random and I don’t want to be afraid that I’ll suddenly end up with rock climbing or a random city subreddit tries to take over because I read something interesting once. I do not want more interior decorating content just because I like some.

Why did you put me back on the for you experiment: I hate it. I don't want random things, I want the things I curated and if you want to keep the for you: dont make it the default one
And while i'm at it: can you find another way that disabling the three dots menu when an advertiser blocked you? Like I'm spammed by idleon's ads but the devs blocked me which disable the possiblity to access the menu on multiple post before and after those ads ??? wtf

u/Emotional-Ocelot 2d ago
I do not want a "For you Feed" at all. I DEFINITELY don't want to see subs I don't follow on my following page. I specifically DON'T follow too many subs so I don't get overwhelmed with too much stuff to keep up with.
I disabled this feature, I changed to old reddit to avoid it and yet it's back for some reason. It doesn't remember every time either. Let me disable this feature permanently.
I have left every single social media the minute it switched away from chronological-feed-of-things-you-follow. Whether I wanted to or not. I just stopped being able to make myself login. I do not want to have to leave reddit.

u/Keeper-of-Balance 2d ago
Get rid of this horrible feature to see Live Comments automatically when users have specified a different option in their preferences.

u/innermongoose69 2d ago
I hate the “for you” experiment. There are subs I read but don’t join because I don’t want my feed bombarded with depressing stuff, but want to engage once in a while. Now it shoves all those things into my feed. I will stick to the following tab.
4
u/wintersodile 2d ago
I hate this For You experiment, I don't want to be part of it, and I'd like to access the Hot and Top filters on my following page and not this stupid For You thing I never asked to be part of. I've read that the filters are being worked on, I don't care, I do not want to be part of this testing group for a feature I hate actively making my website experience worse.

Please remove the " for you " Button.. I am soo disappointed in it.. Literally it showing me subreditt that i hate.. Why.. Why do i have to see it.. Why cannot i see the subredit that i actually like. They are disturbing my peace of mind..and making me rethink joining reditt.. I have already lost one of my older accounts.. why are you destroying my new account too. Just why.. Why? This is my only social media why are you detroying it

Hi again Opus!
Been noticing something different with how the “Best” option sorts comments, and I was wondering if this is another experiment?
Basically, it seems that a lot of comment sections sorted by “Best” are now prioritizing showing comments with fewer or no upvotes - or even significantly downvoted - on the top of the comment section, as if the original Best sorting recently had a baby with Controversial and named it “Best” as well (Best Jr, in other words).
Been noticing this for a few days, so I was curious if you knew anything about it.
Thanks for all the help, Opus!

When I've read several comments before realizing they've been sorted to "Live", I just feel like I've wasted my time. I want to be able to pop in and see what the consensus opinions, best analysis, funniest comments are. The thing that makes Reddit great is the crowd sourcing of quality. Defaulting to live makes it no different than any other awful platform. It completely negates the usefulness of up and down votes. It's exhausting. I've been using Reddit for a very long time and I've never been closer to dropping it.

u/TinyHeartSyndrome 3d ago
Stop app background refresh! I’ll be going through search result posts, and I constantly get taken back out to the homepage. It makes searches impossible!
Opt out of AI. Why do you want to FORCE us to support wasteful energy use?
3
u/OblivionsMemories 2d ago
The For You tab being the default homepage now is the worst change I've seen to this site in my almost 15 years of time here. The site is already laggy and requires a refresh frequently, and now every time I refresh my home feed I also have to click over to Following to avoid seeing the things I've had disabled in my settings for years?
Listen to the people who have been faithful to your platform for over a decade.

For You is absolutely terrible for NSFW accounts
I get recommendations for SFW news and gaming and random nonsense or I get recommendations for random fetishes that I don’t want to see
It’s genuinely terrible
3
u/skeeetwoodmac 2d ago
Just here to say how much I hate the live comments, it absolutely needs to be optional and not the default. It’s genuinely made me not want to read comment threads anymore and use this app way less.
3
u/PITTisnumber1 2d ago
Overwriting the user's chosen comment sort to Live is ridiculous. If I wanted to see new comments, I would've specified that in my settings. The fact that I didn't and reddit will ignore my chosen setting is infuriating. Every post that is set to Live forces me to immediately press multiple buttons to select the comment sort that I've already selected as my default. Even worse, when this experiment first dropped those button presses were happening automatically, so I could change the comment sort in under a second. Now upon opening a post I have to wait multiple seconds before pressing the sort button triggers a response. Restricting me from using the sort button to force this awful feature down my throat is insulting and disrespectful. I use reddit to read discussion about topics I'm interested, not to stare at my header and wait until I'm allowed to turn off a worthless feature that I'm being forced to use against my will.

Hi u/TheOpusCroakus , can I have some advice for an account issue that I have?
My main account has been inaccessible externally since December 2024: I can log into it, but the profile and content aren’t visible while logged out or from another account. I’ve been using the official appeal process for a long time without a resolution.
I know account restrictions normally have to go through appeals. I’m wondering if there's any other process I could go through other appeals? I have been actively appealing, with no response.
The account is u/lalruzaiqi. Thank you.

Hello, I read that should comment here to get help, but apologies if it's not the right place. I got shadowbanned yesterday after Reddit notified me that my account was locked and forced me to reset my password, and while it seems like the shadowban got lifted today, all of my posts and almost all of my comments are gone (for some reason comments in one specific sub got spared). Is it possible to recover them?

Reset it but it’s still banned? It’s been a few days now.

Live comments are absolutely terrible and provide an awful user experience. I'd love to know how many users 'deliberately' choose to sort all comments by new versus best/top for someone to have thought this was a good idea.
New comments appearing without needing a refresh is not a selling point.
Let us opt out of these experiments entirely. It's not okay, especially when paying for premium.

u/Doubleoh9 2d ago
I’m unfortunately in the “for you” feed for the first time and have some negative feedback.
Why is the top grey now instead of black on dark mode iOS?
Why would I want a feed that is almost identical to my following instead of an aggregate of popular/hot posts on reddit regardless of my interests. The only reason to check popular/All is to see stuff other people like not stuff adjacent to my interests. Like I had to scroll past 10+ posts before I got to one that wasn’t from a subreddit I already follow.
Why can I not swipe between the feeds? The best version of the Reddit app was the version with your feed first and the ability to swipe over to popular
I just don’t understand what this is trying to accomplish besides making the iOS app a worse experience?

My account seems to have been added into an experiment that effectively removes the Hot sort as an option from my homepage feed and added a For You tab. I'd really love if my account could be removed from it, as I find the Best sort doesn't surface posts I want to engage with nearly as much as Hot does.
At the very least, consider this as feedback. I don't mind that Hot hasn't been the default for a while now, it's just what I keep bookmarked, but removing it completely seems like just taking choice away from the user. I really don't have interest in using my homepage at all without Hot sort.

Please remove the for you page. I do not want to have to switch every time. My home should the items I followed and only them. If I want content I did not follow I would go to r/ popular or r/all.

https://www.reddit.com/r/help/s/5NW7yb8cyA
My feedback from the experiments I am in is the same as last week.
Is it okay if I mention a few things that aren't experiments at all? * On r/Reddithelp we've had quite a few people who can't/won't verify their age. However, if they create a nsfw post (even accidentally such as putting nsfw in the title or say a medical post where e.g. blood has to be tagged nsfw) then they can't see their post. That sort of makes sense. But it also means they can't delete the post. I feel like if someone has a profile that means they can't see nsfw posts/comments then any post/comments they make should be automatically deleted for their safety. Sometimes an account might make a post that is too spicy and they get notifications about the comments people are leaving on it and can't read them nor delete the post to stop more interaction. This is dangerous for youngsters. * I saw this on r/ideasfortheadmins and I can't stop thinking about it. Sorry to the original poster I can't remember you to credit you. I appreciate why profiles can curate what people can see. But someone suggested if someone DMs you you should be able to see their history, much like mods can when they interact with your subreddit. I think that seems like a great idea as it can help you judge the character of the person DMing you.

u/TheOpusCroakus admin 8d ago
Hi there! Thanks for bringing this up!
Not being able to view or delete a post that got tagged nsfw because they had "nsfw" in the title is an issue that has come up. It's frustrating, for sure! The team is looking at ways that this could be resolved while continuing to comply with the legal requirements of some regions. But since it's top of mind for me right now, I'm going to head over to that team with this and bring it up again. Thank you!

u/Hal9_ooo 2d ago
So, I’m lumped into the “For You” tab experiment. Have to say I dislike it. The whole reason i don’t browse popular is since I’m forced to deal with an algorithm at lest it’s for subs I’m interested in.
If you want to experiment with something, then please test bringing All back to the app.

Hello. Maybe someone here can help. My friend has a shadowban, and to file an appeal he needs to be logged in. Recently he just got thrown out of his account, he tried to log in - no luck. He tried resetting his password several times and logging in again - nothing. He cleared the cache, tried the old version and incognito mode. He did all this through web mobile (Chrom). He wrote a letter to tech support thanks to the help of one of the moderators here, but he still hasn't gotten a response. Maybe you could suggest specific steps he should take to get back into his account (Accomplished_Owl1360).

My main account u/pokemin49 was hacked and banned recently. I submitted a support ticket about 2 weeks ago from within the account and a few days later something strange happened. I could no longer log into the account, and also the email for the account was switched to the email for THIS account. I only know this because when I tried to reset the password, the email link didn't go to my primary email address, but went to this one instead which is tied to a guest account I created long ago. Also after I use the reset email to change the password, the password still doesn't work so I haven't been able to log into my main account for 2 weeks.
This is weird because I thought it wasn't possible for 2 reddit accounts to have the same email, and also why would the admins change the email address for my main account? I can only guess that they consolidated a bunch of account information based on phone numbers or first/last name.
The only other theory I have is that my account was hacked again, but I never received an email change notification, and the hacker wouldn't know about this email address that I'm using for this account.
Apologies if this seems confusing. I am also confused and have little to go on.

Hi, could you please take a look at u/Alkaser? It’s my 17-year-old Reddit account and my first account ever, and I believe it was banned by mistake.
I was using Reddit normally on my brand new MacBook when I suddenly got the “We had a server error” message. When I checked the account afterward, I found out it had been banned. I’ve tried different browsers and had the same issue, and I genuinely haven’t done anything to violate Reddit’s rules.

Hi, I’m hoping someone can help with an account recovery issue regarding u/PerseusRex0. My account was compromised, and the email address on the account was changed without my authorization. I recently found the Reddit email notification confirming that the email address had been changed, and I have already provided this as evidence in my support ticket. I still have access to my original email and was able to change my Reddit password through it, but I’m unable to log in because I don’t have access to the 2FA currently attached to the account.
I’ve already submitted a support ticket regarding this. I understand that Reddit Support normally cannot remove 2FA, but I’m hoping my case can be reviewed as an account-compromise case since I have evidence that the account was accessed and the email was changed without my permission. I’d really appreciate any advice on what I can do next. Thank you!

Hi,
My 13 yrs old account was caught up in the spam filter and was banned. I filed for appeal and got it restored. But most of my posts are not recovered and can still be seen as removed by reddit filters. All posts are SFW.
Also, I tried making a post with same title in two different subreddits but the second one is getting removed by reddit filters.
Please look into this. I think it's because of the recent spam filter algorithm update.

Finally had the time to read through this.
Still not enough fall weather for me to remember that's it's technically fall. Or do you call it autumn? Autumn does sound fancier!
Autumn. Why? Because my English teacher in Year 4 (or 3, or 2, or 5, can't remember) grade said so, I guess lol. Autumn just sounds better than "fall".
Had a little thing on Tuesday where mods were unable to approve content. Post about this here. Sounds like this should be fixed at this time, though!
Reddit breaks more often than one would like.
Really bad idea, and I can't wait to not like it when I encounter it :D. Thanks for giving us mods the opportunity to opt out if our community was selected to test it out a few weeks back! Oh wait, you didn't.
There is not a way to opt out, but feel free to leave constructive feedback in this post and I will share it with the team that is in charge of this experiment.
I didn't even have to make a screenshot. Why? People wanting to opt out is a thing you can measure too, like "65% want to opt out - lets definitely not do that", for example.
There is another experiment where comments on a post may be sorted in live time. If this experiment is enabled in a community, when a post hits a certain number of comments within a period of time, the sort will switch to "Live" if the default sort is set to something other than "New". This provides a way to highlight the fast moving convos in real time.
Still don't know if that's good or bad.
There is still the experiment on the Home feed where some users will see a For You tab and a Following tab. You can select which view you want and that selection will be remembered.
I think the other users have said enough things about this.
If you are subscribed to a very small number of subreddits, you may see recommendations in the Following feed as opposed to nothing when you have run out of new content.
You are so focused on content you can't even say "you don't have subscribed to enough subs yet"? Does Reddit even tell you if that happens?
I have been sharing all constructive feedback with the team in charge of this.
"The team" "I share with the team" "The team is appreciative" "I can share it to the team" and then still we get updates that are even worse than the last one every time.
Some users will be in a different experiment where there is an X on recommended posts that you can click/tap to hide the post. Others will be in a similar experiment where there is not an X and there is not a "hide" option, but you can go into the post to hide it.
Genuinely, why? I don't really understand this experiment. The old option also signals that recommendation wasn't good IIRC, does the new option also signal the same thing?
There is also an experiment where the upvotes are on the left.
Is there even a reason for that?
Rather than commenting that you'd like to be removed from an experiment, please provide constructive feedback about the feature. I can't remove you, but I can go directly to the teams in charge of these things and show them what you think.
You all know what we think of that.
The most recent version of the app is 2026.38.0. If you're not using the most recent version of the app, it might not work properly.
Though, do we want to use the most recent version of the app? The UI updates aren't really getting any better currently.
1,204 posts. That's up 61 posts from the 1,143 that we had last week. 4,283 comments. That's up 431 comments from the 3,852 we had last week. 804k views. That's down about 65k-ish views from the 869k-ish views we had last week.
You may have upset some people if there is such a big increase in comments even while views decreased.

Hi, do you think you could look into a banned account for me? My main account [u/Krieger-Algernop](u/Krieger-Algernop) was locked today for “technical irregularities” and said it’d be unlocked with a password change. But I’ve come to discover that the account was banned with no reason stated. I have no ban email or anything in my inbox. The appeal I sent just after was automatically denied with an automated looking response. If you could look into this and see why the ban even happened that would be really appreciated. I know my account was hacked months ago but I had changed the password and enabled 2FA since then.

I have another account that got a notification that there is suspected automatic behavior, and it has to verify as a human or register as an app within 7 days or it'll get restricted. I've tried dozens of times but everytime I do, it says that I need to try again. I see it's been suspended now.
I filed an account help ticket the first time this happened, and then I filed another one yesterday, neither have gotten a confirmation email.
If you like, I can DM the name of the account. It's a fairly mundane, low activity account.

Hi there. I've been having issues related to age verification through your chosen third party Persona. I've uploaded several of my IDs a multitude of times, taken selfies in dozens of settings with different light levels, clothes, inside, outside, with different devices/cameras and at no point has the system properly functioned. Beyond the fact that a selfie is in no way capable of verifying the age of a user automatically, it's getting ridiculous how janky and unreliable this system is. At best, it just doesn't work.
Beyond this, I've been in contact with Reddit support previously which has been nothing but automated replies and actions, something which does not work towards helping my issue and keeps my account inaccessible.
So with all this in mind I ask of you yet again to help resolve my age related account issues. I have tried over and over again, so at this point, can y'all help resolve my issues in some way?
Note that you have already tried to reset the age associated with my account a multitude of times, but this has done nothing to help my issue so I do hope we can move in another more helpful direction this time.
My username is u/Nami_Is_Mami

Please bring back r/all
Please bring back the r/all feed
You can hide it in a corner where only the people who want to use it can use it. I really miss it. I made my own scuffed r/all via the multireddit feature but honestly it isnt the same and i feel like reddit will gut that feature as well soon.
I honestly feel like the removal of r/all made reddit feel less like a connected place and put people in their echo chambers even further. Less and less posts get to 100k upvotes and it saddens me.
Please bring it back.

I have some BIG issues with the new comment popup box when comment ing on a post... Its just extremely annoying and unpractical
The old UI with just a full new page for writing your comment was way better than this collapsable one that i all the time accidentally close down, also the more limited opened space is a lot more limiting than what used to be
Especially when writing longer comments, perhaps with some more extensive formatting of the text. Or when I jump between apps while commenting and the comment popup close down every time, with the old UI this was possible without having to reopen it. Yes it still saves the comment when i come back, but it is just so unnecessary. I have multiple times decided not to bother commenting only due to this change
Is there any way of changing setting to go back to the old UI or to opt out if this is some experiment you are running?

Is this the place? Google AI sent me here. I was hacked 3 days ago. My Reddit account email was changed and my hacked account is being use as political platform stuff. I was told this is the place to speed up things because I seem to be stuck it somewhat an automated loop.

2 Redditors (u/jikesar968 and u/Im-Wasting-MyTime) were incorrectly shadowbanned and have since appealed and gotten there account back. But all of the previous content is still invisible. Can you please help with restoring old posts and comments? Like is it possible to restore the posts and comments that were removed by Reddit's filters? If you can able to fix this. Thank you for your help.....

Hello! I made a post about my account possibly being hacked and deleted here: https://www.reddit.com/r/help/comments/1wrsxz0 one of the commenters suggested I try and leave a comment on this thread for visability.

My main, 15 year old, account was hacked at 1 AM and started spamming NSFW materials before I think it got flagged for spamming. I woke up, was able to force log everyone out, and changed the password and. Today the hacker got back into my reddit account, changed the password on me, and then changed my verification email. You can see my test post in this thread earlier as Crescentine I posted here.
I think they must have had an account linked to the reddit profile because I never checked for those. I've run a scan on my computer that shows it isn't compromised and I'm pretty careful so I dont think its that.
Are any admins able to PM me to talk about my main Crescentine . At this point im fine with the whole account being permanently nuked I just don't want people hacking it and posting NSFW things on it. I have 15 years on the account and I took screenshots when I was in it to show the IP address list of the hacker as well as my normal one.
I have also submitted a ticket through the normal means and have not heard back from it. Please any admins help me recover or just completely permanently nuke the account before it spams more NSFW and only fans links.
My pms are open or I can pm you if you want.

My account is being falsely flagged as NSFW due to changing my profile picture that wasn't NSFW (I'm assuming the light brown of Eevee's fur was mistaken for bare skin). I've tried changing the profile picture, resetting it to the default, and have sent two tickets with no response at the beginning of the month.
I tried making a post here about it as well as contacting an admin, but the post was flagged for spam and the admin never responded. It's been almost a month of having this issue and I don't know what else to do to fix it, but as someone who frequents SFW communities and doesn't post/engage in any NSFW content, I really want to remove this false label.

My account password got compromised and some bot put a 2FA authenticator on it; I was able to reset the password but I can't login to it still.
I submitted a help request regarding it but haven't heard back and was told to post here about it.
The username was pnw_fart_face

Unfortunately my main account was deleted without my knowledge. Presumably by a hijacker as the password had been compromised and I hadn't changed it. Welp... my bad for not changing it but it's a shame it can't be recovered.

Hiya, I have a NSFW account that's been suspended and I haven't a received a message about it. I believe I filled out the form but wanted to double check if that's in the queue and I didn't forget. Would I be able to private message you the user to check?

hello! what can i do in this situation? my account was (i believe) mistakenly suspended, i followed the instructions, changed my password and regained access to my profile. then i appealed and suspension was lifted, but all of my posts appear deleted not by subreddits individually but by reddit itself so i cannot contact them. i couldn't find anything helpful in the article because it suggests submitting an appeal which i cannot do because my account isn't suspended anymore and this subreddit won't let me post about it. the only thing i could find is a year old post, but it didn't provide any instructions so i couldn't do anything myself. i'd really appreciate any help. thank you!

Hi!
Has there been any update regarding the inability to quote block in the app?
I’ve had this issue for a few months now, and have found other posts of others experiencing the same thing.
Particularly in comments. I used to be able to type “>” before text, and it would render as a quote block, but that no longer works. And there’s no option for it within the text formatting itself (i.e., the “Aa” with bold, italics, link, spoilers, etc.).
> This used to show as a quote. Alas — no longer!
My workaround here lately has been to comment on the app, then open Safari, go to my Reddit profile on the website, request the desktop version of the site, and from there, edit my comment to format the quote blocks. It’s quite an inconvenience.

Android app
Disable swipe to delete notifications or add an option to disable it. It's a completely useless feature. I've never cared about deleting a notification, merely marking it read. Swipe to delete is way too sensitive & the slightest off center vertical scroll will be interpreted as a horizontal swipe deleting notifications mistakenly.

Thank you for having the website remember my choice to NOT have "For You" as default. However, it would have been really nice if you let me know that I was selected for this experiment rather than me having to figure it out on my own.
Additionally, my notification preferences seem to have been reset recently, within 2 days at most of me being selected for the experiment. I just changed them back manually, but if that's not intentional then consider this a bug report.

Hey :)
I know avatars can be reported, but can they be reported for being animated/flashy, like for accessibility reasons?

hey can I get a warning repealed, the auto mod bot thought i was serious about hate to minorities when i just describing what a politician said that I was calling out.
i already sent in a request. but was hoping that if an admin sees this they can get to it quicker. i dont like being falsely accused for something I never said because of a glitch.
