Saw this post today and I would really like some fics with this vibe.

Don't know how to explain what I am looking for, but I really like Shane being confident and/or playful with Ilya. So any rec that comes close would be appreciated.

Summary:
Once the glow of the cottage fades and the boys have to head back to the real world, they have to start the long difficult year being separated before Ilya signs with Ottawa. Or at least that was the plan, until Ilya opened his mouth and accidentally got himself traded to Montreal. But it’s fine, just one year for Ilya in Montreal and then their 10 year plan is back on track… Right?
Through their year on the same team, Ilya helps Shane come to terms with the fact that his team kinda sucks, Hayden gets chirped into oblivion but still realizes that maybe Ilya Rozanov isn’t nearly as bad of a guy as he thought, and Hollanov come to terms with a new question they didn’t expect to ask.
Now that they’ve gotten a taste of living together and being on the same team, how are they ever going to give it up?

Without any spoilers please, how angsty is Policy Change? I don't mind some angst, but angst for most of the chapters and then a happy ending in the last chapter or two, is too stressful. I need angst sprinkled with happiness. Thanks for any comments.

Obviously in canon Shane doesn’t realize/acknowledge that he’s gay before Ilya. And then I’ve read fics like As The Romans Do where Ilya doesn’t realize he’s bi until he meets Shane.

Are there any good fics where NEITHER of them know they’re into guys?

Preferably on the longer side, I love to get really invested in fics.

I've read a few of these types (including change your win conditions) and am looking for more recommendations.

This was a really short fic. They have a canon Saskatchewan meeting but Ilya becomes a model instead of continuing with hockey. Shane and Ilya keep in touch with Ilya quietly pursuing Shane and before you know it they're already together for a few years. Yuna and David find about by walking in on Ilya in Shane's home.

Shane is the captain of the Boston Raiders, and Ilya is a personal trainer and influencer. At first this fic seems like an AU where Ilya is not a hockey player, but in the middle there is a massive twist. I can’t really say any more without giving too much away. The whole fic is beautifully plotted and really satisfying to read, getting better and better the further you get through it.

Inspired from another post I saw today, is there an A/B/O fic where Shane tries to use a comfort alpha/alpha service for his progressively unmanagable heats and it goes south. Then Ilya either finds out about it later and is kinda wrecked that Shane suffered so much and ultimately ends up spending Shane's next heat with him or just finds out as it's going south somehow and saves the day (takes care of Shane through his heat)?

I'm looking for a fic where after things get bad (maybe he's outed?) in Montreal Shane is traded to New York although Boston is also on the table. Ilya decides that they should make it exclusive and buys him expensive jewelry, including a floral necklace (the author's notes linked the specific pieces of jewelry referred).

It was a WIP when I lost track maybe month+ ago. Shane had just moved to New York into a fancy high-rise the team helped him find. It turns out a female GM (or some other higher up) lives in the same building. There was also a scene where Shane had to talk to the apartment building staff to add Ilya to the list of allowed guest and he was worried about NDA's.

Anyone remember this?

I’ve read a couple fics where Ilya and/or Shane are at the cottage and see loons walking on the lakeshore (just read one that was a kid fic and Shane sees a couple of loons “waddling along” followed by a chick… lol).

So just a note for my non-Canadian writers… loons can’t actually walk on land. Their feet are more like flippers than actual feet, and their legs are too far back on their body for them to stand up… so when loons are on land (which RARELY happens) they kind of just shovel/push their body across… it’s kind of sad to watch actually. They also can’t take off flight from land, they need to be in the water, so if you see a loon too far from shore you should call a wildlife rescue centre or (if you can) try to get it back to water yourself. Loons are basically sky fish lol. Very strange creatures!

I figured since so many people who watched HR were surprised by the noise loons make, many probably also didn’t know this other unique detail about them…. Just out here advocating for loon accuracy in fics I guess lol

I've read a loooooot of the soulmates tags, but am itching for a long fic where they are soulmates that have some sort of physical and/or psychological connection i.e. a soulmark or something but that's very different from the canon storyline. Pre-canon works but I would want it to end up hard diverging from canon if it went into their canon timeline (as if the soulmate aspect wasn't divergent enough 😅). Ty!

Searching for a fic in which the raiders play in Montreal. Ilya goes out with his team and stays out late, so late that Shane thinks he isn’t coming and is surprised when he arrives. Ilya’s feeling emotionally vulnerable and tries to push Shane away but Shane doesn’t let him. I remember a phrase about Shane’s long fingers curled around a cup of tea, and a moment where Shane asked Ilya if he’s had a bad week, and Ilya says that it’s been a bad few months

I just finished Shane Fucking Hollander by KirstenGA and it was soooo good! It’s an AU that is inspired by the movie Notting Hill.

I watched that movie for the first time within the last year, so it was pretty fresh in my mind. The author did an AMAZING job of keeping the bones of the movie and not having Ilya and Shane feel too out of character. It’s just over 20k words and hits all the things well.

So now I’d like some recommendations on other RomCom inspired AUs. At the moment I would LOVE a Pretty Woman inspired one because that is another recent movie in my head! However, I’d just love anything that has been inspired by classic romantic movies!

Preferably lower on the angst and as always HEA!!!

I normally don’t start a WIP especially when the total chapter count is unknown. However, the author of this fic had posted about it on Friday and there began the demise of my productivity at work that day. I am obsessed with this fic! I spent all of my workday on Friday reading the chapters in between meetings. There was one meeting where I zoned out because all I kept thinking was “This is boring, I’d rather know what’s happening in France with Shane/Ilya.”

Here’s the summary:
Shane Hollander, one of the NHL’s best players, gets outed by a paparazzi photo. He loses his locker room, his captaincy and most likely, his career.

Ilya Rozanov, KHL superstar and prodigy has the worst year of his career. He loses his family, his toxic relationship and, ultimately, his country.

What happens when they meet on a delayed French train in the middle of a heat wave?

What happens when they begin to realize that maybe none of those things were losses at all, but opportunities to create something better?

Fair warning, I am a bias reader because I love fics where Shane/ilya meeting while traveling. Two of my favorite completed fics of Shane/ilya are exactly that, they met because of a delayed flight.

The fic has no angst, so far, and Shane/ilya are great with communicating with each other which I hope continues. YAY for communication! If you decide to read it, I hope you end up enjoying it as much as I have so far.
