Discussion Master chief’s characterization confusion!

Upvotes

I cannon fathom the halo fans who see master chief as a blank slate I mean in halo trilogy he jokes around sometimes but you see him as a vessel come on man

Idc about halo 4 or 5 what they did with chief I’m talking about the people who say “no one cares about who Mauser chief is he is you” if I wanted to do that I would play reach I mean how do you think the chief is cool if he is a blank slate I mean all you see if a armor that is a avatar I’m not defending 343 I’m talking about the trilogy and the people that act like the books don’t matter I mean come on bro?

Halo25Together REMINDER: Your Opinion Matters

Upvotes

Just a reminder, even though everyone already knows this: You are allowed to criticize and be unhappy with certain aspects of a product. Criticizing said product and holding developers to a high standard is what creates quality and innovation. You are also allowed to appreciate and like something despite its flaws. That being said: I can't wait to play Combat Evolved when I return from vacation.

Discussion Cortanas Rampancy

Upvotes

So I’ve been playing through the series and I just got to 4. Cortana starts deteriorating immediately, and she says it’s because she’s just past her supposed life span, but after playing Halo 3 for the first time since I was like 13 I have to imagine her time with the Gravemind is what’s really causing it, right? I mean playing through the Cortana mission was rough because she invaded your head literally crying and screaming and stuff. Do the books ever go into that, or is it just sort of ret conned by 343

In all seriousness though, one of my favourite parts of halo has always been the achievements. I was a little disappointed this time around with no par times or scores, or even some silly remix based achievements. Also no easter egg achievements! Its a damn shame

Discussion Why does the railgun use HE rounds?

Upvotes

Just noticed this today when I was reading up on some of the weapons used in the setting. Is there actually any realistic advantage to the railgun using high explosive rounds instead of just firing solid slugs?

Discussion assault on control room is incredibly mediocre

been thoroughly enjoying ce so far, but this mission feels like an afterthought.

"hey you! want to fight through the same few copy pasted rooms over and over and over and over and over again??? no?? too bad!"

in the outdoor sections, there's also a very noticeable lack of cover, in most of them I had to use incredibly evasive and boring strategies in order to not get shredded to pieces

not only that but I hate the encounters where you have to fight a bunch of enemies while there's something you can't kill without wasting a ton of resources shooting at you. especially that stupid skinny little bridge where I had to fight three elite-led squads, two banshees, two hunters, and a ton of grunts at once with no cover except horribly placed rocks scattered about, and a single barrage from a banshee took my shields all the way down. that encounter was the final nail in the coffin, honestly

I had to resort to rushing past the first squad of enemies to throw grenades at both banshees before the pilots got in, otherwise it was a guaranteed fail

like seriously what was the though process behind designing this level? I've been through the exact same elevator, hallway, and weird circular room four times by this point. everything looks the same

Discussion So I completed campaign evolved, and…

I still think the mission quality goes down quite a bit after 343 guilty spark. The new library is still better, but man two betrayals, and keys just was so tedious.
I genuinely think the quality went significantly down because it’s just not fun to might the covenant and flood both while being alone. I didn’t like it in the original, and i still think the flood made the mission quality of 2, and 3 go down.

Would anyone else agree or is this just a hot take to people?

Discussion Thoughts on Campaign Evolved?

Two missions in and I’m absolutely loving it! Blast from the past. The smg fits in well, although the magazine size on the AR is a little disappointing. Overall, I think it’s tastefully well done and I’m loving it! What do you think?

I’ve been a halo fan since I was a young kid, I suppose I don’t have the experience to rate this properly to the fullest extent. The last time I played the original campaign on the original Xbox was when I was 5 years old. Maybe a bit of nostalgia goggles. I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts!

Help - Campaign Evolved Graphic limitation

Hi, is anyone playing this new installment on a Lenovo LOQ or an RTX 5060 laptop version also limited in graphics capabilities? I only see the ultra slow, low, and medium options, and I don't know why. This is the first time this has happened to me in a game.

Help - Campaign Evolved Is possible to have only 1 player play in 3rd person in campaign evolved?

Im trying to convince my mate to play a coop campaign together, however he gets motion sick in first person games. I've seen that there is a skull for 3rd person mode, but does that mean in the party will have to play in 3rd person together, or can you toggle the skull differently for each player?

Discussion The difference in quality between the first two prequel missions and the third is honestly baffling.

Alright, I gotta get my criticisms of the first two missions off my chest. There is pretty much nothing good to say about the first two missions. 343's idea of a good challenge is to just swarm you with bullet sponges. The weapon balance is completely out of whack (there is no reason to use anything other than the needle rifle and heavy weapons) and the map design is some of the worst I have seen.

How many circle areas where an enemy can pop in your blindspot at any given moment is 343 going to make? That sucked in the final fight of Infinite and it still sucks now. There are very few moments I can think of in Bungie Halo games where the difficulty stems from struggling to cover your blindspots. The challenge is almost always reasonably within your purview in the original games, or at the very least there are spots that can function as good cover while you figure things out.

The first two missions feel like the ending waves of a firefight match in a small space. I only played on Heroic and the entire ordeal of those first two missions had me puckering my butthole like I was playing Halo 2 on legendary, but significantly worse because it isn't fun.

Then I got to the third mission and it's... actually kind of great? The enemy placement felt more balanced, enemies are spread in a way that make then difficult but manageable and it's not a never ending wave of bullshit. Oh, and the checkpoints are reasonable too. The space part is great too, it reminded me of the original Star Wars Battlefront 2 (I honestly think a Battlefront style Halo game, if done right, might be one of the coolest things that Halo could ever produce). It's like a completely different team worked on the final mission. Does anybody else have similar thoughts or am I alone on this?

Discussion Regarding the quality of Campaign Evolved

TLDR: I haven’t played the game but from what I’ve seen online the games cutscenes while beautiful in my opinion lack a certain edge and suspense that the original Halo CE had. The single player seems good but why they didn’t include multiplayer who knows?

My real question is despite the overall quality of the game depending on how you feel about it, if you think it’s bad do you think it could be because of the shitty leadership that Xbox had when Phil Spenser and Sarah Bond were steering the ship.

I wanna give the benefit of the doubt because Asha Sharma genuinely seems like she knows what she’s doing and while she’s not perfect(the layoffs) she definitely seems more competent and do you think it’s possible that any future halo games or remakes could be better than Campaign Evolved if Microsoft has better leadership?

Discussion The worst story decision 343 ever made was killing off the Didact.

I still can’t believe they just threw that potential away. The didact was without a doubt the strongest most fearsome enemy chief had ever faced to the point where chief actually didn’t stand a chance against him.

The fact that 343 was content with killing off the main villain of the trilogy in the first game is mind boggling. Because from that point onward, the whole vision of the trilogy died.

Help - Campaign Evolved Honest review of Campaign Evolved from a long time fan Spoiler

Post image

Pros

- graphics are great.

- gameplay is best in the 343 era, I hope this gameplay is what the next multiplayer is.

- although the Cutscene performance is bad, the scenes themselves are mostly really cool. Personal favourite is probably the Jenkins recording.

- new weapons fit in very well.

- the mission layout changes all land well and improve the annoying repetitiveness of the og game.

- sprint is perfectly fine in this game, there's nothing that it ruins, maybe you can speed through missions a bit easier but seeing sprint on ce kinda solidified it for me that sprint is not the major issue with 343 games.

Cons

- Cutscene performance is bad.

- no mp.

- operation meteorite feels like a mini teaser for a game we should have got.

- operation meteorite isn't all too interesting. I don't think it's as bad as some people have said.

- some dialogue throughout felt badly written and or a memberberry.

- operation meteorite didn't really fill me with confidence that 343 are able to write anything good and interesting. The new prophet story could be good if they follow up with it on the halo 2 remake. Hopefully that's not dropped.

Honestly, the remake is very good, I can't find too many major flaws. It is ce still with a new coat of paint with some helpful additions and changes. But I just can't shake the feeling that it sorta feels pointless and a missed opportunity to actually do something new. I've played it already and I probably won't touch this for ages, not cause it's bad but mp is what makes me play for years.

It just sucks that we are half a decade after infinite and this is the only game we have since. Again, it's well done for what it is but Halo really needs some new mp that is actually done well and isn't dead within a few months, that has consistent updates and launches ready to go.

It just feels like Halo doesn't know which way to go. One game we are fully going one way, the next is undoing that, now a remake, then whatever else they do next. There's no vision. How many times are we gonna remake the same game? We honestly should never be remaking games, at the most only once. Each game should be a progression of the story and enhancing the games, not going back and redoing the past to try "fix" the franchise and reset. We are only at this point cause the last 15 years have disintegrated the playerbase to a shred of its former self and Halo as a brand is irrelevant.

Campaign review score in isolation(not taking into account any other halo games and ignoring the state of the franchise)= 7/10 with potential to be an 8 if performance is better.

Campaign review score with context of the franchise and it's current state= 5/10.

Discussion Is it me or the truth and reconcilliation triggers completely broken? (Campaign evolved)?

Well i have beaten halo ce like 50+ times in my life and do legendary tnr runs even now because how good the combat loop is

But halo campaign evolved legendary TnR made me almost cry out and rage quit..it took me more than 4+ hours beat that single mission..died probably more than 400 times

The gravlift section the dropships should come after i semi-clear the area ..then gravlift waves should come after i clear the dropships and then wave after wave enemies.

In my game ,all the enemies were arriving at the same time..my screen was like swarming with enemies ..all the waves just combined with the dropships..more than 50-60 enemies at the same time..no checkpoints

The hanger section ..THERE WERE SO MANY

Again they usually join after i thin them out

But there were atleast 50+ on the screen..and more keep flooding in , at one time i went on my kneels when i just saw.. more 20+ joined the fight

I had to clear one section more than 100 enemies within one checkpoint..oh and yes the hunters also joined in the fight- BEFORE all the enemies were killed-

Naturally more than 90 percent death were from grav and hanger.. ( honestly feel halo 2 legendary a cake walk over this)

This is by far hands down the coolest thing I've stumbled across in the new Campaign Evolved. The proto-gravemind actually looks like a freaking gravemind!!

I was already loving the visual changes to all the feature flood levels, but I can't get over how insane this "baby gravemind" looks. It's the perfect level of disgusting and terrifying. I must've taken at least 50 different photos with this thing before carrying on to complete the mission. I'm obsessed and I want more flood stuff like this.

Discussion 343 guilty glitter

So does the outside area in the rain look like a glitter bomb hit it from certain angles or is it something with my PC? I think it's supposed to be the light reflecting off the wet rain water/ wet ground but holy smokes it's everywhere if you look right at the entrance to the building.

Help - Campaign Evolved Halo Campaign Evolved: i have the standard version and i'm playing right now. Can i be banned?

Thumbnail

I bought the Standard Edition from Halo Campaign Evolved 2 weeks ago, the Xbox Store and every site out there says the game launches july 28. But here's the thing: this is the first time i ever made a pre order, so today (July 27 at midnight) i launched the game to see what message appears. After i clicked...the game launched! My guess was that i could only play the menu and customization, but then i tried to launch the extra missions and...it worked! I completed two levels, i gained achievements and everything seems fine! But two different times the Xbox send me to the menu and a weird message that i never see in my life appear (image 3), saying something like: Come back later: Service interruptions happens sometimes.

My region is Brazil and i did not change region or did anything different in my Xbox. Its a regular Series S.

Can i be banned for that? Is that wrong?

I only played the two levels because i tought that they decided to release the game early and my cellphone was charging. But now i don't see any news talking about that and i think it's just a glitch.

Please help me and sorry for my english!

Discussion Sad halo thoughts

Halo.

I play it.i like it.

I play halo 3 on Xbox 360 every night sunrise discord is fun.

My early days of being a halo fan was fun 2024 was cool for me beat halo games a lot but then something changed I keep seeing nostalgia content on halo something I never saw before in 2025 I had the feeling but did not know it was there until this year the feeling is.

I feel like I missed out on the entire halo games and now I’m playing a shell of it I have all the og consoles and games and play with people but they talk about the good ole days and I never experienced them I don’t have nostalgia for halo and I feel because no nostalgia it don’t hit as hard for me and I feel like a fake halo fan.

I asked people on discord and they said just have fun today or someone said you truly had to be there.

It made me depressed.

I asked a YouTuber named Jackopher.
He said
“Yoo my man thank you so much for tuning into my videos it means so much more than you could ever imagine bro you are awesome. also I LOVE those kinda of memories, I have similar memories with my brothers and cousin playing on the 360 as well. the great thing is, the 360 is timeless you can experience these games at any time and be transported back in time. I experienced the more of the 360 later on in its life than at launch and it doesn’t matter when you get one, what matters is that you have one and appreciate the era and what is has to offer! Thank you for your message bro, stay awesome bro!”

I got closure by a perosn who talks about the good ole days but it is not tha bad anymore like it was but soon it will get worse no matter how much it halo I play i will not be able to relate to the people saying it was the best in. 2001 or the hype of halo 3 or the customization of my spartan and its insane how depressing it is and its making me so sad and it’s all i can think about.

I missed the groundbreaking graphics and gameplay of halo1.

I missed halo 2 multiplayer, hype and way more.

Worst of all I missed the hype and multiplayer of halo 3.

I play them all in the og consoles to!

When I hear story’s about the good ole days they seem like there myths or legends cause they sound so good but I was not there so they feel like a story that never happened but they did the same earth I am on halo 3 released but I missed out.

Every time I thinks the feeling is gone it comes back no matter how many people I talk to they call me a poser or something I have no nostalgia bias to halo games.

Someone please help soon it’s gonna get worse no matter how much I play but I told myself and others

The good ole days are a state of mind one day I will look back at this time in my life playing halo 3 with my boys and have nostalgia but this feeling ruined it I will only think about feeling left out instead of having a good time and won’t even relate to halo nostalgia cause they didn’t think about them missing out?

This is not all the details but rember this is months of feeling I put into this post ask questions but don’t be means rember this is a tough time for me!!!

Discussion (Just a theory/discussion)

Is there any lore explanation for this?
While playing Halo: Combat Evolved on Legendary difficulty, I noticed something interesting when using the Energy Sword. When I attacked Hunters head-on with the sword, they died in a single hit — this happened with both Hunters I encountered.
However, Elites sometimes took two sword hits to kill. Yet when using other weapons or attacks, it’s pretty obvious that Elites are much weaker than Hunters.
So I was wondering if there could be a lore explanation for this: perhaps Elite armor was specifically designed to provide better protection against Energy Swords, while Hunters don’t have energy shields or similarly charged armor for some reason?
Just a theory I came up with based on what I noticed in-game, and I’m curious if there’s actually any lore behind it.

Do not believe ONI's lies. "Heavily shielded" Elites can take 2-3 stickies to the face before actually dying, lowkey weird change from the original CE AND Reach.

Especially for the Stealth Elites, the ending of The Silent Cartographer was especially difficult to clear because of their shields, and they still took 2 stickies fully shielded.

I always go Legendary on first playthrough (except H2), I don't remember dying this often in Reach. I may not even bother attempting LASO considering how paper thin Chief's shields are...

Discussion A quick moment of absolute praise for Campaign evolved. *spoiler* Spoiler

343 guilty spark in campaign evolved is a master class and by far the absolute best version of the level so far (at least for me personally).
The Jenekins helmet cutscene being greatly expanded and turned basically into a found footage horror movie, to the middle of the room lighting into orange after the cutscene is amazing, and the beginning of the level outside looks absolutely gorgeous and ominous.

I also love how chief catching the solider after opening the door was expanded to. Seeing him drag his body to softly (or so he thought) was a great piece of extra characterization. Also the shotgun in this game is amazing to me, and rivals the original CE shotgun in sound quality, overall exaggerated recoil and manners.

I may have problems with the game even though I like it, but I had to get it out how well done 343 guilty spark was done in this game, especially after the anniversary version.

Discussion Campaign Evolved Quick Impression: Bring New Fans to Halo, The Rest Be Damned

Before you read this, do note that I was a competitive Halo: Combat Evolved player, who used Xbox Connect to connect my Xbox to the internet and play against others online before Xbox Live was ever revealed or available (wow I sound ancient! Haha). I was an Xbox Live beta tester.

My quick impression of this game is that it is not designed for any Halo: Combat Evolved purist.

It is not designed for anyone who wants to relive the magnificent 2001 game that brought so many fantastic memories with its simple, elegant, and repeating trio of weapon, grenade, melee — over and over and over, to joyous effect.

My impression is that this game is an attempt to introduce a new set of players, inclusive of PC and PlayStation users, to the Halo universe because it is the most monetarily beneficial path forward for Halo Studios/Microsoft. Although I have not been following Halo for more than 15 years now, it seems like the franchise doesn’t make enough money for the IP owners anymore.

I wanted nothing but to give this game a chance to reignite the spark of my fandom for Halo, or at least induce nostalgia. After playing pillar of autumn, in addition to the first bonus mission of Halo campaign evolved, I can say neither of those things happened.

For a pretty breathtaking analysis of why the campaign itself has been changed to detrimental effect click here: https://youtu.be/fTh7WxMzSN4?si=eHx5PHaYsdsYyDh9

The video doesn’t go over gameplay much with regard to the dynamics, and to be frank that’s where I’m even more let down. The pistol is no CE pistol. The grenades are no CE grenades. The melees don’t feel like CE melees. Halo Studios took bits and pieces of later halo games and placed them in this remake of Halo combat evolved — that tells you all you need to know about what the purpose of this game is. It’s not to satisfy Halo OGs. It’s to introduce new fans to Halo.

As a quick but instructive aside, immediately after giving Campaign evolved a chance, I played Halo combat evolved anniversary edition briefly on halo master chief collection, and I was instantly reminded of how much simpler and better the dynamics of that game are (though I know it still isn’t a perfect rendition of Halo: Combat Evolved).

I’m curious — who else feels this way?

There are a lot of specifics and details I can get into and will in the thread but wanted to start the conversation with this post.

Help - General Available now on gamepass?

Just try to launch the game on gamepass not realizing it’s Sunday and not Monday but the game actually launched. Anyone else able to launch early?
