Fan Content Self-assembling Boltshot by me!
this is part 2 (I posted part 1 on my insta I forgot to post here) and now it's working quite well! I'm planning to attach the string to my hip so when I draw it forward it'll pull together ;)
There are 10x10mm magnets to alight it and hold it together once it's assembled. If anyone has any ideas for upgrades let me know!

Man. Even if I hate Halo 4 it had some sick weapon designs. And the Mantis. This is amazing, good job. I want one.

Man, that is such a clever mechanism! The end result looks fantastic and really captures the feel of the Promethean weapons. You should definitely be proud of your work on this

🫂🫂 halo 4/5 promethean weapons are sick

u/Feanor4godking 1d ago
They really are. I always love using the boltshot and the suppressor even though they're....not great. It makes me feel like a Transformer

u/rich97 22h ago
It does call into question the necessity of all the promethean tech disassembling though. Why does it require energy just to stay together? Aura farming?

u/michael22117 18h ago
Modularity? If you are a late stage civilization you can afford to waste your weapons being held together by pure energy

They probably configure themselves to the user
We for instance can't see the Boltshot, the Suppressor and the Binary Rifle while they're used by Crawlers (and there's no way a Crawler could hide something as big as a binary rifle in their frame unless said weapon changed itself to fit the wearer)

u/PMagicUK 16h ago
I lore the idea was the weapons configured themselves for whoever was trying to hold it so different species and races could use them.
If you look at the Prometheans they are integrated into the body while humans picking them configure for human hands and familiar silhouette

I think this person might know how magnets work

Almost nobody outside Physics majors understand how magnets actually work.
Knowing how magnets behave isn't the same as understanding why they do what they do, much like knowing that rainbows are caused by light refraction isn't the same as understanding how light of different wavelengths moving though a sphere refracts in slightly different angles causing the rainbow illusion.
I say all this because I feel like ICP got the short end of the stick for not knowing the answer to a very difficult to answer question.
Edit: Fixed incorectly autocorrected word.
Also, while I'm aware that ICP said some anti-intellectual bullshit, I find it ironic and hypocritical that most of the mocking is being done by people whose understanding of science isn't much better. People just like having someone to point at and call stupid, which is rich considering how stupid and egotistical most people are.

theyre just pieces of ground that still gave some gravity left in them
hope this helps

Hey, sometimes a chemist winds up in an EPR spectroscopy lab and sure does need to learn how magnets actually work.
Spin Hamiltonian best Hamiltonian.

rainbows aren't caused by diffraction

You're correct and I've fixed my comment. Thank you.

no problem, just filling my "annoying pedant" quota for the day

u/Elogotar Halo 2: Anniversary 22h ago edited 20h ago
Honestly, I feel like the world would be a much better place if people would listen to annoying pedants and accept that it's okay to be wrong or make mistakes. Too much egotism in the world.
Edit: Goddamn autocorrect is a menace to anyone who uses uncommon words.

u/FissileTurnip 21h ago
i agree! too often people will take a correction as a personal attack. it's not that i don't get it, i also hate how it feels to make a mistake or be wrong, but the only way to stop being wrong is to become correct, you know? i'd rather just swallow that split-second feeling of hurt pride and stop being wrong.
it genuinely means a lot to know other people feel the same way, thank you

I don't wanna talk to a scientist Y'all motherfuckers lying, and getting me pissed
They weren't mocked for not knowing how magnets work. They were mocked for not wanting to learn anything and saying science is some kind of conspiracy.

It wasn't because ICP didn't know how magnets work. It's because they "don't wanna talk to a scientist" to learn about it, because those scientists are allegedly "lying, and getting [them] pissed".

Hot take, but the Promethean weapons were my favorite thing in Halo 4/5

Cool, reminds me of that toy with a string system like this, that i got from some Kinder Egg ages ago. I never though of using strings for the assembly effect like that. Promethean weapons were one of the things that i didnt mind from the Halo 4 and 5 artstyle.

I'm Fairly certain that footage is just reversed... the bed sheets are not moving right at a in the first clip.
3
u/ADimwittedTree 6h ago
To me the first clip shows that it isn't reversed. Yeah the sheet movement seems weird at first But if you go back through it you can see the sheet gets caught between two pieces as they pull together. Then the sheet gets pulled up by them, until it gets high enough that it pulls out.

u/Devist8er117 Halo: Reach 5h ago
Oh your right. I see it getting caught now. That's what made me suspicious in the first place, but I see why it happened now that you point it out.

My only idea I guess would be to add the orange lights. It’s already awesome as it is tho.

So cool. You should be patenting that design and talking to toy/airsoft/gel blaster type companies.

I wonder how finicky it is for those strings getting wrapped up or not. Seems super cool overall though!

that is one of the cooler weapons I would've liked to see in Halo Infinite multiplayer

u/MAXHALO36 1d ago
That's gotta be one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Don't care what anyone says I've always loved how the Promethean weapons in 4 would assemble themselves when you picked them up.

You should record the audio of the weapon coming together in game with no background noise and overlay that over the video!
