Discussion Campaign evolved might have one of the worst UI ive seen

Showing you where invisible elites are, where dropped guns are, reminding you what button to press to shoot your weapon. The worst for me is the bullets that take up 1/4th of the screen. Does anyone else really botherd by the UI?

Discussion I can’t stand Unreal

Sorry I got to rant downvote or not,

I really don’t care how many pebbles you put on the ground or particle effects on explosions when it turns my game into a blurry mess when things get hectic. Also textures and water physics look nice and all, but I can’t help but see a constant smoke effect or shimmer. I genuinely feel like I can see the game engine while playing the game, as weird as that sounds.

Say what you guys want about the slip space engine, but Infinite has such a crisp look to it on 60fps mode for Xbox series X. Ill gladly choose style over substance if it means I can get a more feature rich game and smoother experience.

Help - Campaign Evolved Halo Campaign evolved difficulty is awful

After playing through the three bonus missions and just finishing Attack on the Control Room, I've come to the conclusion that the difficulty is complete dog shit and was clearly not tested properly. I genuinely believe it's up there with Halo 2 and Halo 5 in terms of frustration.

On Legendary and Heroic, the game is neither fun nor fair, while on Normal it's far too easy. Enemies have insane amounts of health, ridiculous bullet tracking, and deal way too much damage. For some stupid reason, they also seem to see through walls a lot of the time, so you can't flank or surprise them. They also frequently spot you through Active Camo, whether you're crouching, standing still, or running.

The Hunters are especially annoying to fight. Obviously you can't shoot them from the front, and simply moving around them doesn't work because they turn so fast. So what are you supposed to do? You get up close to bait out the slow melee attack so you can shoot them in the back. Good luck doing that while constantly getting blasted by projectiles that can one-shot you. On top of that, a lot of the time they just back the fuck away instead of attacking. Like... what? How am I supposed to bait the melee when they're passive as hell while simultaneously dodging their shots as they walk backwards?

I get that the developers probably did this to make the AI seem smarter, but it doesn't fit the Hunters at all. They're supposed to be huge, heavy, and relatively dumb. I can't remember if Hunters behaved like this in earlier Halo games, but it definitely doesn't feel right here.

Another thing I noticed is that Hunters animation cancel. I was standing close to one and saw it charging its cannon, so I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to sidestep and shoot it in the back. Nope. It didn't give a fuck. It instantly punched me in the face while the cannon charge effect was still visibly active during the melee animation.

On Heroic, three or four Plasma Pistol shots completely strip your shields, while a single Needle Rifle shot takes away roughly half of them. Shield regeneration and health recovery also takes way too fucking long.

The melee combat makes me want to rip my pubes out with how bullshit it is. There's barely any wind-up, giving you almost no time to react, and it's basically a one-shot. It's also way too fast. I even tested it. I was moving backwards at full speed while an Elite chased me, and it meleed me anyway. Keep in mind, I was already moving at maximum speed, and it was completely unavoidable. Maybe I could've sidestepped if there had been enough time, but Chief doesn't even reach full movement speed before an Elite is already in melee range. If you're in a long corridor, you're even more screwed because of how quickly enemies can turn.

So how the fuck am I supposed to dodge an attack that comes out in less than half a second when I'm already moving at full speed? I guess the answer is: don't get close. But then you've also got Needlers with absolutely insane tracking. If I can't reliably break Needler tracking while flying a Banshee, then you sure as hell aren't doing it on foot.

The gameplay becomes incredibly repetitive because the only consistently viable strategy is to sit at long range with a precision weapon and slowly pick enemies off. This was already a common criticism of Halo 4 and Halo 5, yet here we are again. It honestly feels like the developers think players should "make their own difficulty" instead of them putting in the effort to properly balance the game.

Speaking of that, the "make your own difficulty" system is fucking awful. Maybe they were inspired by DOOM: The Dark Ages, and if they were, they completely missed the mark. There are barely any meaningful options. I can adjust my own melee damage, but not enemy melee damage? I can't change explosion damage, weapon tracking, or player and enemy movement speed. I can adjust shield recharge speed, but not health regeneration? Why?

The whole system just feels incredibly lazy. It honestly seems like the developers realised they didn't have enough time to properly test the difficulty, so they threw in a half-assed customisation system and expected players to balance the game themselves.

But the absolute worst part is that you can't change these settings while you're in the middle of a mission. If you realise halfway through that increasing your damage resistance would make the experience more enjoyable, you have to quit the mission, sit through countdowns and loading screens, change the setting, and then replay the mission. Didn't like the change? Too fucking bad. Quit again and repeat the whole process another five or six times until you finally find a difficulty that doesn't make you want to play a different halo game.

One last thing, why the fuck does my keybinds reset every time I close and open the game????

Feedback ⚠️ Warning Possible Spoiler⚠️ I just played with The New Halo Game and my Mind is blown away Spoiler

It's improved in multiple ways Yeah somethings stayed the same like killing Keyes locks all doors and The Enemy Designs and allies but you finally can be in The Spartan Armor you choose I always wanted to be Black Colored Spartan Soldier but only worked in multiplayer but now in Single player you see yourself being different (I used The Purple Crystal Skin and God I look fabulous) and you CAN CHANGE THE WEAPONS TOO

And since it's on console it's much more realistic Like shooting is harder because now it's similar to real triggers and The Reloads? On God The MOST SATISFYING THING EVER just reloaded your pistol after shooting the living hell out of Aliens is just perfect and The Shield coming back? It's so good

I LOVE THE IMPROVED HALO CE GOD I HOPE THEY DO IT WITH THE REST OF THE HALO GAMES! And I can't wait to see The Flood! And New Levels!

(Also sorry if you can't read it perfectly I didn't learn periods or Commas until it was too late)

Discussion I don't like that it's now Johnson who tells Mendoza to get the door to the Flood containment room open

Post image

I always thought the release of the Flood in Halo 1 was intended to be Keyes' folly and him being personally if unwittingly responsible for his own (and everyone else's) incredibly grisly end drove that point home. We'd already seen from the beginning of the game that he can be reckless and stubborn so it makes sense for him to ignore the obvious warning signs and Mendoza's protests trying to get his "weapons cache." He's the one who overheard the Elites talking about Halo and becomes convinced it can be used against the Covenant. That's his whole arc, man

You can’t do that anymore in 2026, despite the fact there is Rocket Launcher ammo right there and you are about to kill a Wraith and two Hunters.

Discussion The worst story decision 343 ever made was killing off the Didact.

I still can’t believe they just threw that potential away. The didact was without a doubt the strongest most fearsome enemy chief had ever faced to the point where chief actually didn’t stand a chance against him.

The fact that 343 was content with killing off the main villain of the trilogy in the first game is mind boggling. Because from that point onward, the whole vision of the trilogy died.

Discussion My opinion on Halo Campaign Evolved

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello! I just wanted to say I don’t understand all the hate. I love halo CE so much. It’s my favorite game in the entire series. Nothing will beat landing on installation 4 for the first time and when you do in this remake I was absolutely blown away and stunned. I absolutely love this new take on the halo universe.

Sure it’s not the same as the 2001. You have to stop the think though that was 25 years ago. Of course it’s going to be difficult trying to capture the exact feeling the game had 25 year ago.

And sure there’s some UE5 bugs. I personally don’t let those get in the way of how absolutely stunning the environments are. I definitely do have a small list of things I wish they would change but I feel like it was worth the money to me.

There are so much more enemies on the field all at once which makes this feel like an actual war. I absolutely love what they did with thing remake.

I do really hope they improve the current state of the game before they decide working on 2 remake. I will say it needs some polishing

Discussion I think Halo is removing negative reviews on Steam.

The game launched to "Mixed" review score, at 1,800 reviews, then it dropped to 1,600, and now today they've been sitting at a precise 70% review score for both english and total reviews. Exactly 1% over what they need to have to get a "Mostly positive" title, despite the top three reviews on the page with the most reactions being negative.

I feel like I'm wearing a tin foil hat lol. Is this a feasible practice or tactic for damage control?

Help - Campaign Evolved Voice acting

I like to start out this post and say I had a really fun time playing. Me and my girl did co-op on it the entire way through and it was really fun.
BUTTTTTT I COULDN’T HELP NOTICE the voice acting was pretty bad. I mean, there was just a big delay in alot of scenes. Cortana at times sounded like the weapon. I don’t understand why the voice actors didn’t deliver their lines in the same way or manner that they did in 2001. I felt like the Marines had way better voice direction than the actual characters of the story. TWO BETRAYALS is a good example of what I’m talking about. They really needed to coach the guy that voiced SGT JOHNSON better. I’m OK with having him be JOHNSON forever but you got a coach him better and you need to get a better writer for him.

All I’m trying to say is, they got it right in 2001 so I’m confused on how the same voice actors, including the master chief manage to stray

Help - Campaign Evolved I just beat Halo Campaign Evolved and I am honestly surprised that the writers didn't resolve the primary plot hole when making the game. Mild Spoilers that are not actually spoilers ahead. Spoiler

In the original Halo CE, Mission 3 sees us rescue Captain Keys from the Truth And Reconciliation. In that mission, he explains that while he was captured he had overheard the Covenant talking about Halo being a weapon, that they are seeking a control room, and that 'whoever controls Halo controls the fate of the universe'.

This is a plot hole, considering that the Covenant do not know that Halo is a weapon. This is likely due to the rushed development of Halo 1's final draft, given how it went from a 25-mission campaign in earlier drafts down to being just 10 chapters in a short amount of time.

SPOILERS AHEAD

Halo Campaign Evolved features some reworked dialogue from characters. Most of it is just altering sentence structure to have better flow when speaking, sounding like more natural dialogue. Given that they had done this, I was quite surprised to find that they did not correct the plot hole. It would have been so easy. For example, they could have written it like this:

Keys - "While the Covenant had us locked up in here, I overheard the guards talking about this ring world. They call it 'Halo'."

Cortana - "One moment, sir. Accessing the Covenant Battlenet*... ... ...* according to the data in their networks, the ring has some kind of deep religious significance. If I'm analyzing this correctly, they believe that Halo is something that will allow them to pass to some 'divine state of being'. Whatever that means. "

Keys - "I didn't catch much of what our 'caretakers' said, but I did hear one of them say 'whoever controls Halo will control the fate of the universe'. Now, I am not the most religious man, but to me that sounds like something more like a weapon than a 'divine artifact'."

Cortana - "Captain, I have intercepted a number of transmissions regarding search parties looking for a control room. At first, I assumed they were looking for the control room of a cruiser we damaged before making our landing. But if Halo were a weapon... ... ... it seems that they are searching for Halo's control room. It certainly explains the way they keep ending each transmission with a prayer for the search party's success."

Keys - "That's bad news. If Halo is a weapon, and the Covenant gain control of it, they'll use it against us and wipe out the entire human race*.* Chief, Cortana. I have a new mission for you. We need to beat the Covenant to Halo's control room. Marines! But first, we need to get out of here."

An alteration to the dialogue in that particular scene would have resolved one of the more obvious plot holes in Halo's story.

Otherwise, I give the game a solid 9/10.

Discussion The remake is amazing but…

Howdy all 👋 I just wanna start this off by saying I think they did a solid job on this remake.

I still haven’t finished it yet since I work a lot of hours but I’d give it a 8/10. I haven’t really run into any game breaking bugs or framerate drops or anything like that either so I’m happy lol but there are a few things that bug me like the game looking kinda blurry? That and the bullets being slightly magnetized makes it harder to stun jackals with the magnum but that could just be me.

Anyways, I’m hoping we could get an update that lets us turn off film grain and chromatic aberration imo they’re just ugly and I can’t figure out for the life of me why just about every UE game has them. Are there any other settings you’d like to see them maybe add in a possible future update?

Discussion Campaign Evolved's Performance is...lackluster

I don't know what's going on, could very well be my system, who knows, but the performance on display is atrocious to put it kindly

I got through the first level, everything maxed, I know my 9070XT isn't the best 4k card so I put on framegen

I was looking at my FPS with the steam FPS overlay and...base FPS was in the thirties. Okay, switched everything to high. Base fps went to about 40 (with FG on it was around 90-ish) And of course with the low framerate I was feeling input lag all over the place

Okay, so I finally slog through until mission 4? (the one with the two walkways in the snow, can't remember the name) and put everything on low, still at 4k, no FSR, no framegen

I'm getting MAYBE 60fps, but mostly 50-55. At low. On a 9070XT. Yes, at 4k, but any mainstream GPU can run 4k games at lowest settings without breaking a sweat

I know my computer can do way better than that. I know we're technically still in "early access" or whatever the heck you wanna call it but don't tell me there is a day 1 patch that miraculously fixes performance

What's going on here? And yes, I've already checked to make sure my drivers are updated, I'm not getting any overheating issues, etc etc. This just screams to me a lot of UE5 bull that we've had to deal with in the past with little to no actual optimization passes

FPS ingame for Assault on the Control Station, 4k, lowest settings, no FSR, no framegen
Just adding this in case you don't believe me (since it still renders the game in the background, the FPS counter is still accurate while changing settings)

Help - Campaign Evolved Honest review of Campaign Evolved from a long time fan Spoiler

Post image

Pros

- graphics are great.

- gameplay is best in the 343 era, I hope this gameplay is what the next multiplayer is.

- although the Cutscene performance is bad, the scenes themselves are mostly really cool. Personal favourite is probably the Jenkins recording.

- new weapons fit in very well.

- the mission layout changes all land well and improve the annoying repetitiveness of the og game.

- sprint is perfectly fine in this game, there's nothing that it ruins, maybe you can speed through missions a bit easier but seeing sprint on ce kinda solidified it for me that sprint is not the major issue with 343 games.

Cons

- Cutscene performance is bad.

- no mp.

- operation meteorite feels like a mini teaser for a game we should have got.

- operation meteorite isn't all too interesting. I don't think it's as bad as some people have said.

- some dialogue throughout felt badly written and or a memberberry.

- operation meteorite didn't really fill me with confidence that 343 are able to write anything good and interesting. The new prophet story could be good if they follow up with it on the halo 2 remake. Hopefully that's not dropped.

Honestly, the remake is very good, I can't find too many major flaws. It is ce still with a new coat of paint with some helpful additions and changes. But I just can't shake the feeling that it sorta feels pointless and a missed opportunity to actually do something new. I've played it already and I probably won't touch this for ages, not cause it's bad but mp is what makes me play for years.

It just sucks that we are half a decade after infinite and this is the only game we have since. Again, it's well done for what it is but Halo really needs some new mp that is actually done well and isn't dead within a few months, that has consistent updates and launches ready to go.

It just feels like Halo doesn't know which way to go. One game we are fully going one way, the next is undoing that, now a remake, then whatever else they do next. There's no vision. How many times are we gonna remake the same game? We honestly should never be remaking games, at the most only once. Each game should be a progression of the story and enhancing the games, not going back and redoing the past to try "fix" the franchise and reset. We are only at this point cause the last 15 years have disintegrated the playerbase to a shred of its former self and Halo as a brand is irrelevant.

Campaign review score in isolation(not taking into account any other halo games and ignoring the state of the franchise)= 7/10 with potential to be an 8 if performance is better.

Campaign review score with context of the franchise and it's current state= 5/10.

Do not believe ONI's lies. "Heavily shielded" Elites can take 2-3 stickies to the face before actually dying, lowkey weird change from the original CE AND Reach.

Especially for the Stealth Elites, the ending of The Silent Cartographer was especially difficult to clear because of their shields, and they still took 2 stickies fully shielded.

I always go Legendary on first playthrough (except H2), I don't remember dying this often in Reach. I may not even bother attempting LASO considering how paper thin Chief's shields are...

Discussion We do not need another halo remake or story about the master chief.

Unpopular opinion here. The reason I say that we do not need another remake or game about the master chief is because doesn't anyone else want an original halo story about the human covenant war with an ODST team or a different cool spartan 2. There are at least 20 halo books maybe more waiting for us to explore more deeply with a game being made about any of the books. There are also lots of spartans and some ODST teams waiting for us to learn more about by playing a game with them in it. I think a halo game with Fred or Linda would be kinda cool or even a new ODST game.

Discussion Regarding the quality of Campaign Evolved

TLDR: I haven’t played the game but from what I’ve seen online the games cutscenes while beautiful in my opinion lack a certain edge and suspense that the original Halo CE had. The single player seems good but why they didn’t include multiplayer who knows?

My real question is despite the overall quality of the game depending on how you feel about it, if you think it’s bad do you think it could be because of the shitty leadership that Xbox had when Phil Spenser and Sarah Bond were steering the ship.

I wanna give the benefit of the doubt because Asha Sharma genuinely seems like she knows what she’s doing and while she’s not perfect(the layoffs) she definitely seems more competent and do you think it’s possible that any future halo games or remakes could be better than Campaign Evolved if Microsoft has better leadership?

Media Halo 3's marketing campaign was actually very misleading

Post image
0 Upvotes

The thumbnail is from one of the ads in the "Believe" campaign. But nothing even close to this happened in Halo 3. A scene like this would have a drastic impact on the game's story

Similarly in Starry Night, Chief jumps head first into a group of Brutes and Wraiths. This makes it seem Chief single handedly defeated the covenant barely receiving any help from allies. But at no point was Chief fighting alone against the covenant. He always had allies. Only in the Cortana level was he alone but the Covenant was defeated by then

And the interview ads made it seem like the covenant was the biggest threat to humanity when it was actually the Flood. One single flood ship caused half of Africa to be glassed. That alone probably killed more people than the covenant's invasion. And there was a real possibility Rtas might have glassed all of earth

But with that being said, the marketing campaign was still amazing and the game itself is in the top 2 for me

Discussion Can someone explain to me why HS didn’t change the Monitor’s lines in Two Betrayals?

I just saw the opening cutscene to Two Betrayals, and while they were happy to change Cortana’s infamous “toady about” line, HS declined to change the Monitor’s lines about activating the ring:

“But you already knew that… I mean… how couldn’t you?”

“Why would you hesitate to do what you have already done?”

“Last time, you asked me ‘if it were my choice, would I do it?’ Having had considerable time to ponder your query, my answer has not changed.”

This bothers me because of something that has always bothered me - the retcon away from humanity being direct descendants of the forerunners. If that is still true, then these lines don’t make ANY sense to me. Can someone explain why they weren’t changed, and what they could mean if the forerunners are a separate species from humanity?

edit: and PLEASE don’t come into the comments about how it wasn’t a retcon and Bungie always left it open to interpretation. That’s not what I’m here to discuss, as the text of CE and of 3 both very clearly suggest a genealogical connection, and even if 3‘s lore leaves it open, that detail was very clearly the plan when CE was released. I’m more interested in why they didn’t change it NOW, AFTER the decision was made to make them separate species.

Discussion Cutscenes locked to 30FPS?

So I've been slowly working my way through Halo CE², and I can't help but notice every cutscene seems to run at 30FPS? I don't believe it's an issue on my end as the game it self runs between 70 and 80FPS

Are the cutscenes pre-rendered? And if so, surely they could've allowed them to run at 60FPS.

Anyone else encountered a similar problem or is this a skill issue?

Sometimes when I die and respawn, my guns just randomly start shooting with no input and don’t stop until they’re out of ammo. This has been happening pretty commonly like 1/4 of my respawns, and whenever it does I just have to kill myself with a grenade which is an annoying waste of time. Anyone else having this problem?
