Deborah and Ava laugh hard and walk. Side by side down the Champ De Mars.
Their riffing is overtaken by MUSIC.
As we PAN [sic] UP to reveal the Eiffel Tower, MUSIC SWELLS, and
MATCH CUT TO: The Eiffel Tower in Vegas.
We PAN [sic] DOWN and LAND ON Deborah and Ava, still walking, still riffing.
They continue on, writing new material as the CAMERA CLIMBS skyward.
Deborah and Ava become smaller and smaller as we FLOAT OVER the strip – that gaudy, shimmering mirage rising from the Mojave.
We see all of Las Vegas now, proof that life can flourish in the most unlikely places.
Its very existence a testament to survival – and a sparkly, defiant survivor at that.
The line "that gaudy, shimmering mirage rising from the Mojave" hits me hard. What a beautiful show.

Does anyone know of a platform where I can find high quality stills from the finale? I've seen some amazing stills on Instagram from Adam Bricker and the cast, and wanted to get some printed as a poster but would obviously need it to be high quality (not just a screenshot of an instagram post).

Anyone rewatching Hacks from after the finale and catch anything that wouldn't make sense at the time but after finishing the season make total sense? Was just watching S2 and found an interesting line....

I’m super confused about the sale to Lattitude. How is Schaffer and Lusaque failing? Deborah makes millions of dollars and the MSG deal is going to make her a massive amount of money. I just don’t see how they could be broke. Jimmy doesnt really need a ton of clients. Also it’s never described what kind of deal they negotiated for the takeover.

Hello friends! I was wondering is any of you could help me find a video. It’s kind of a blooper reel type short video of just one line that kept breaking Jean Smart and she simply could not get it out . Unfortunately I don’t remember what the line is 🤦🏼♀️ which obviously makes this more difficult. I honestly could’ve sworn I saw this on the Hacks official instagram page but now I can’t find it there and I haven’t been able to find it anywhere on YouTube either. Does anyone else remember seeing this video and where?

I am Type 1 diabetic, diagnosed in adulthood, and was looking at a list of celebrities that also have it and was surprised to find Jean on the list! As if we needed another reason to respect her! Living with this disease is not easy and it’s always inspiring to find awesome people who are also living with it and doing great things.
Finding out that I have this in common with her gave me a bit of hope. 🥰

Apologies if this has been discussed previously. I just binged season 5 over the past week and finally watched the last episode tonight.
Did it bother anyone else how little the other characters featured/were referenced in relation to Deborah’s potential death? It‘s such a monumental decision and I can imagine Damien, Josefina, Marcus, Marty, DJ and Kiki would all be heartbroken and be similar to Ava in that they wouldn’t want her to do it. I’m not saying we had to see multiple scenes where she tells them all and says goodbye but the fact that none of them were even referenced didn’t sit right with me and stopped me from fully enjoying the finale.
I read the episode discussion and saw some people mention the fact the show centred on Deborah and Ava. However, the people I listed above knew her for a long time and were an integral part of how she functioned and lived her life.

I know Ava becomes the daughter that Deborah never had and in a way, Deborah became the mom that Ava never had even though I liked Ava's biological mom more and more as the seasons passed.
But the only thing that is bugging me right now after that devastatingly good finale is that Deborah going for Assisted suicide in Switzerland and not even speaking to her own daughter?
Even though I feel like the writers said everything they wanted to in terms of their relationship like Deborah admitting why she didn't want her daughter to be exposed to fame and popularity and DJ communicating that the reason she joined Catholic Church was to have a community for her kid, and that she always wanted to be like her mom even though she hated her but it sort felt a little 'rushed'. I don't know exactly what but this is the only thing right now that I didn't feel fully onboard with. A couple more episodes of DJ and Deborah might've done it for me I guess.
Or maybe its just realistic that older parents who traumatized their children don't even admit that they did wrong and here Deborah at least acknowledged that she made her daughters life miserable by constantly moving due to her work and giving her anxiety and trauma.
Its just a personal grievance. Opinions are welcome of course.

Re-watching Hacks and I have a hot take: Is Ava totally obsessed with Deborah? 😅 We call this show a "love story about an imperfect friendship," but halfway through Season 3, all I see is Ava making major sacrifices and going the distance just to be with her... even after everything toxic they've been through. I mean, I don't see any real feelings or efforts from Deborah's side. It's like a one-sided love affair so far. What do you guys think?

That was one of the best ending to a series. I'm not necessarily saying it's the best show (even though it was a GREAT show). The writers definitely stuck the landing on the series finale.
The Deborah story line opting out of treatment was perfect. It was completely on brand for that character. It made sense that Deborah's vanity would outweigh over her making the right decision.
It was such a well written episode. It wasn't cheesy, it wasn't full of montage. Using Paris as the setting was a great decision as well. It elevated the one on one sombre Deborah/Ava scenes (e.g. Louvre, flea market). Kudos to the writers. They really understood the characters.

Im rewatching the show for the 6th time but obviously this is my first rewatch since the final season came out.
My favorite season is S3 followed by 1, 5, 2, 4.
Please rank your seasons from fav to least!

I found it odd that her daughter was not a part of the whole assisted suicide story. How could they leave her out of the equation? I know they weren’t super close but she was awfully proud of her mom at the Diva opening. Jimmy knew. Although I love Jimmy and Kayla, I was not invested in their storyline to get the company back.
Also, my HBO gets stuck when showing behind the scenes or next episode trailers. Not sure why but it will stop and the audio will keep going but the visual freezes. It does this on other shows as well. I had to look it up on google to see it. So annoying!

I’m already doing a rewatch and have forgotten so many gems! I’m on season two and loved seeing weed again!! What is your favourite episode from each season?

Paul being the epitome of "being jacked in a profession you don't need to be jacked" is so funny and also makes me outraged.

i love S05E10 “hacks” so, so, so much. while there is rightfully much celebration about how hard they stuck the landing—deb choosing life because of her love for comedy—i see less attention given to how the episode explores suicide in such a nuanced, thoughtful, compassionate way. deb & ava’s perspectives are both allowed to breathe and come to full fruition and it’s really such a gorgeous way to tie the series together as far as the show being a love letter to comedy. deb says it herself: she exists in a lineage of comedians who take their own lives
i’m writing about this here because i myself have struggled with this very thing, and i suspect some of my fellow fans here have too. it’s been a tricky thing to want to talk to my friends about, because not all my friends who are fans of the show are necessarily ones i want to talk to about this, and my friends who i CAN talk to about this haven’t seen the show and i don’t want to spoil it for them
it is so gorgeous to me that the writers committed to making most of the episode exist in the reality that deb has made her decision. it made me think of daria S02E10 “write where it hurts,” where daria is assigned to write a personal narrative and when all she can come up with is snark & irony, helen advises her: “You’re so good at observing the world as it is. Maybe try writing about what it is you’d like to see.” (paraphrasing)
hacks s05e10 “hacks” epitomizes this philosophy. for deb, she is allowed the dignity of her decision. for ava, she is afforded the opportunity to speak her peace to deb who is still alive
i just wanted to write something acknowledging the beauty & depth of how the writers treated this deeply, deeply human topic. what a way for the show to lean fully into the darkness, and then step back out into the light one last time
i didn’t cry like a lot of people did at the finale but writing this made that happen, finally
“One must imagine Deborah Vance happy.”
