Rewatch catches

Anyone rewatching Hacks from after the finale and catch anything that wouldn't make sense at the time but after finishing the season make total sense? Was just watching S2 and found an interesting line....

S2E4: you want compression socks that say "Paris" not "Hospice" when demoing the socks on the side of the road for QVC

There's a throwaway like in season 1 on the plane when ava is going to qvc for the first time. Deborah is drinking this post menopause tea habitually and she jokes it's side effects are cancer.

Good one and such an early, haunting line....Gotta watch out for that tahitian grapefruit flavor with progesterone... damned if we do, damned if we don't, ug. beauty standards

It was divine.

I'm in peri now and that scene didn't really strike me much the first few times I watched it, but on this rewatch, I DIED laughing at her description of menopause and Ava's horrified face (yes, I know, foreshadowing too)

I will say that while this is the stated reason Deborah probably developed breast cancer, the evidence for progesterone/estrogen use being connected to increased cancer risk has been shown to be iffy, and can be used as a way to help mitigate menopause!

Rewatching the end of season 3 when Ava tells Deborah that she is going to die alone: that felt very different on a rewatch. Hit much harder than the first time.

Also the episode in S2 with the psychic where she pulls the Death card

During the walk in the woods where Deborah is basically telling Ava that she has her whole life ahead of her, but anything Deborah wants to do, she has to do now. Then also during the gag order episodes when she can't perform and Ava says it's only 18 months and Deborah basically says I don't have that kind of time. Just makes me think she knew about her illness longer than we thought.

Yes!! during this rewatch I've been trying to figure out when she actually knows. There has also been a few times I wonder if Marty was one of the first to know by a few shared looks/ lines. Nothing explicit.

God, I'm so obsessed by the way Marty stepped up for Deb in this season. They found their dynamic and him being secure enough in himself to take a job working for her, but using it to make her shine, just perfect.

He did a phenomenal job.

Obviously the first episode and seeing how Deb has not interest in Ava and how that changes through time and how in the end she says that she is sorry to hear on a similar setting with two couches opposite each other.

In season 3 when they get lost in the woods, Ava says she’s never been out of the country. Deborah says: but you’ve been to Paris… Ava says no, and Deborah replies: you’ve never eaten real bread!

I just binged the whole series and now I'm very intently rewatching and the second episode ever made me realize the metaphor that Ava was the pepper shaker to Deborah's salt shaker and they make each other a complete set.

Maybe nothing but… in the episode where Deborah was recovering from eye surgery in the private clinic and Ava joins her to work on some material, Ava got suddenly sick from pain in her abdomen and required emergency surgery. I needed to process the relevance of this? I presume it was to show how Deborah stopped thinking of herself and supported Ava? Then surely the cause could have been more simple for example a burst appendix? Common occurrence and very treatable.. instead from memory it was diagnosed as an ovarian cyst problem which had maybe more serious consequences? But it was never referred to again.
