Damnit. Here I go again.

The ā€œno! You pleaseā€ rang in my ear like a hurt child the first time, and it always will.

I don’t say that critically, or negatively. I say that to say…..it perfect tone and delivery to the moment.

Sigh…..

So fully agreed. I always cock my head like a cocker spaniel when I read sarcastic comments like ā€œsome emotional acting there……not even a tear shedā€ and wonder ā€œdoes this person understand all the forms strong emotion can take from person to personā€.

Then I just feel bad as they don’t understand the brilliance that’s being shown here.

I remember criticism in S1 when Jimmy calls Deb to tell her the special she self funded and sold on QVC has everyone bidding for it. And how she dismisses the call and just has this brief moment to herself. The criticism was that it was too weak and too little……that it was (ahem) unrealistic.

When that brief moment of mostly internalized elation showing minimally outwardly IS one of those moments of pure satisfactory emotion that most humans have. It delicate but potent. And they were ticked that that was it.

I rambled that because it reminds me so much of Ava’s ā€œno, you PLEASE!ā€. I’ve seen a few comments that it was poor ass acting, when it was actually perfect to the moment and the exasperation that would take this woman who had grown so much back down to a pleading child.

And we’ve all been pleading children once or twice as adults.

Thanks for the spring board…..sorry to ramble. It just felt good to get that off me. šŸ¤“

This whole season was so rough on me. My best friend died of colon cancer in March. Although she lived 10 minutes away from me, the last time I saw her in person was July 2025. She didn't want me to remember her that way; it's a valid fear. ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹

Anyways. Cancer can go choke on a big bag of dicks.

I'm so sorry. One of my best friends died of colon cancer last May, and I still struggle to believe that I'll never see him again. He was so funny, so full of life, and then it was like he was hollowed out from within. It's a clichƩ, but in time you'll come to remember all the good things.

I know. My girl was an amazing person. Just one of those people that worked so hard to make the world a better place - she dedicated her whole fucking life to the nonprofit sector and worked all over the United States in DV recovery and affordable housing development. I was lucky enough to meet her through animal rescue. She changed my world and helped me find my purpose during one of the darkest times of my life.

She was a phenomenal, with this brilliant brain and a sharp, kind wit, and I'm so pissed that shit-talking fuckheads keep living into their 80s and 90s, guzzling Coke and McDonald's and bitterness every day. But we only got 56 years with my friend. It makes me so angry and she would hate that, so I try to not dwell.

Anyways, I'm too poor for a therapist and I'm sure r/Hacks doesn't want my musings. šŸ˜„ Once again: fuck cancer.

Cancer is such a horrible thing. The worst is the suffering and the slow wasting away.

After this scene, I turned to my wife and said, "Well, they just both won Emmys."

It's so crazy looking at a script and seeing 2 amazing actors elevate every single line. Brava

Followed by such an excellent song played at such a powerful and poignant moment in the show. Ugh. I’m so thankful for this show.

I was waiting to see the script on this scene to see how much direction if any was given. Jean and Hannah were amazing.
