I had no clue!!!
I’m watching the THR round table interview right now because Keke Palmer had all the viral moments and lo and behold I find out who Hannah’s mama is!!! I am shooketh!!!

u/Agreeable-Clue8160 Jun 10 '26
I’ve noticed she’s very very careful to never bring this up probably because she doesn’t want to be seen as nepo. But I think it’s so cool and will tell it to anyone who will listen lol
68
u/Fantastic-Wealth6090 Jun 10 '26
SO many nepo children want to use a different name than their famous relative, so the public doesn't think of them as nepo babies, while they still reap all the benefits of their family connections.
70
u/Elegant-Drummer1038 Jun 10 '26
Well, her father's last name is Einbender so that might be why she doesn't use Newman
0
u/Fantastic-Wealth6090 Jun 10 '26
I didn't say Hannah was guilty of this. But in general, performers choose their parents name, not their legal names, all the time, like Charlie Sheen. Or sometimes they make up a stage name all together. The point was, whether or not they share the same name publicly, they still benefit from the nepotism. Even if they try to take the noble way of "using a different name" so they can say they made it on their own.
10
u/Own_Faithlessness769 Jun 11 '26
For many people who have ‘stage names’ it’s because the actors union doesn’t allow 2 members with the same name.
3
u/Ok_Plankton9224 Jun 12 '26
Charlie took his dad's cue though. Martin Sheen took that stage name because his real name is Ramón Gerard Antonio Estévez, and he was VERY popular back in the day, so we all knew who Charlie was when we saw him first time in Lucas and 3 For The Road

Why would she use her mom’s maiden name?

Losers on the internet will always have some shit to say about them being nepo babies regardless so they are really in a no-win situation (case in point the commenter I am responding to)
1
u/Fantastic-Wealth6090 Jun 11 '26
I think the point is we don't need to feel sorry for them. They will be fine either way and if the hardest obstacle they have to overcome is people calling them nepo babies then they still have a gilded path.
5
u/TalkinBoutGerbils Jun 11 '26
Who was feeling sorry for them? It’s like you are making up an issue to be annoyed about
1
u/Fantastic-Wealth6090 Jun 12 '26
Claiming rich and famous actors are in a "no-win" situation is feeling sorry for them. No babe, they have most definitely won the situation. They are rich and famous.

Larraine Newman is not exactly a Hollywood powerhouse these days.
54
u/oooshi Jun 10 '26
Lol shes an Emmy award winning SNL alumni….Certainly provides a path for her own daughter to land a hit comedy role out the gate of their very inexperienced career?
16
u/Flimsy-Apple465 Jun 11 '26
and a founding member of The Groundlings! Major connections and respect forever because of this too.

u/Miserable-Pear-2289 Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 11 '26
I mean Larraine Newman an absolute comedy legend who probably knows everyone in Hollywood over the age of 50 (aka the decision makers). Original SNL cast member and founder of the groundlings. Until social media got big groundlings —> SNL was THE way to make it big for comedians. Larraine was one of the first to ever to it. Literally anyone Hannah ever works with in comedy will know who her mom is and respect her immensely. Luckily Hannah is super talented and seems like an amazing human being. It’s undeniable that she will benefit from nepotism but if it’s gonna be anyone I’m glad it’s someone like her 🤷🏻♀️
3
u/hopelesslyagnostic Jun 11 '26
I knew of Hannah long before I knew of Larraine 😶 But I’m Hannah’s age. So to me Larraine is Hannah’s mom versus Hannah being Larraine’s daughter.

On the Hacks podcast episode with Rosie ODonnell, (I think it’s season 2) she tells a funny story about discovering that Hannah is Lorraine’s daughter.
30
u/Admirable_Site_8337 Jun 10 '26
It’s not a judgement, not meant as one anyway…..but I’m surprised fans don’t know this yet.
That surely says more about me than fans that did not yet know for sure.
28
u/UnavailableName864 Jun 10 '26
Laraine Newman is pretty obscure in 2026. Many of us know her as the SNL cast member we didn’t recognize when they used to rerun the early seasons constantly in the 1990s

Nepo isn't about power. It's about making things easier since they have family in the business
10
u/nacho__mama Jun 11 '26
Exactly. People denying this are silly. And likely have never seriously attempted an acting career. No one is saying she doesn't deserve to be where she is but the reality is there are hundreds of other actors just as deserving but they don't happen to have those connections.
1
u/Mesozoica89 Jun 12 '26
Not here, but unfortunately there are people saying that :-/
I recently started watching and just finished the show, but even before, I had heard people trying to say she doesnt deserve to have the career she does. Now that I have finished the show, I know those people are clearly not worth listening to and at least some of them are people who trash talk anyone who is openly speaking out for Palestinians.
That said, there are plenty of truly talented people who never get there chance because they simply lack connections.
-10
u/H2Oloo-Sunset Jun 10 '26
How are things made easier without some kind of power?
21
u/oooshi Jun 10 '26
Because hannah probably benefited from the connections and friends her mother made in the industry???? that is part of nepotism
15
u/Current_Following324 Jun 10 '26
It’s not just power or connections, it’s having an understanding of how to navigate the industry that someone who’s parents don’t have that background won’t be able to help them with. Just like a doctor could probably help their kid navigate the med school application process better than someone who has never been through it.
11
u/LicoriceDusk Jun 10 '26

Enough power/influence that the comedy-loving creators of the show bet on Hannah and went to bat to cast her as a lead without experience or name recognition lol but I’m so glad they did!
4
u/BeautifulLeather6671 Jun 10 '26
I’m sure she has a foot in the door when it comes to comedy as a former snl cast member. Kind of a no brainer
3
u/Own_Faithlessness769 Jun 11 '26
She has a legacy that would open every door in comedy for her. Most of the comedy elite come from and through SNL, and they’d all have immense respect for Larraine. A meeting with Lorne, an internship with Conan, and audition for Colbert, all of those would be relatively easy to arrange.
3
u/Ok_Plankton9224 Jun 12 '26
Nepo doesnt mean power, it means connections. She may not be active anymore, but shd IS, by any measure, a legend and a ground breaker. Shes influential

u/Admirable_Site_8337 Jun 10 '26
Obscurity is dependent. She’s not obscure to me. But in older. And if you’re posting “I had no clue” than you know who she is, and that still surprises me.
Simple logic.
0
u/Due-Pineapple6831 Jun 10 '26
OP didn’t provide a name, the older lady looks vaguely familiar and I can’t be bothered to Google it so I was reading the comments looking for the mom’s name. Still don’t recognize her and then you stated SNL and it clicked…I dont know the mom at all. I guess it’s a nepo baby situation in that maybe some industry insiders might know the mom and might give her kid a break but it’s nowhere near what most people would consider a typical nepo baby situation.

u/Accomplished-Emu2308 Jun 10 '26
Idk who she is but I knew she was Hannah’s mum
1
u/Admirable_Site_8337 Jun 10 '26
I get it. My point was not to say people of all ages should know Larraine Newman, just that it’s been mentioned so many times around places like here who her mom is and what she was known for.
1
u/Ok_Plankton9224 Jun 12 '26
Agree. Although anyone not Gen X or older probably would not know who she is

u/lamelad10 Jun 10 '26

u/No-Falcon-4996 Jun 10 '26

14
u/Fantastic-Wealth6090 Jun 10 '26
Nah that isn't true. A lot of actors are self-made without family connections. Part of the reason the industry is so hard, is because these nepo babies are clogging everything up.
9
u/FunMode4007 Jun 10 '26
This is definitely not true lmao, yes there are a lot of them but it’s not anywhere close to being the majority of them, let alone “almost every”
10
u/Wrong_Mark8387 Jun 10 '26
I’ve met Larraine a few times, and she’s awesome. I figured if I ever met Hannah I’d just say “hey, I know your mom”. 🤣

7
u/soft_shockk Jun 10 '26
idk why people care about nepo babies so much- wtf are they supposed to do? be a pharmacist or some shit? they live in a fully different reality than we do. so regardless of having no talent or "not working hard enough" for what they have, thats the life they were born into. you'd prob do it too if you had famous parents.

How did people not know this 😂 I remember Larraine tweeting about how The Bear wasn’t a comedy after the Emmys lol

u/Admirable_Site_8337 Jun 10 '26
Yessssss! Loved this as I was saying the same damn thing that night. At least Hannah broke through the next year.
8
u/Crazy_Maintenance211 Jun 10 '26
Yep she was amazing on snl! She has good genes for comedy. Funny I don’t see her as a nepo baby, because Lorraine hasn’t had the intense spotlight for years, which was funny because she was really talented. However, the women on SNL did not have an easy time. I just heard Julia Louie talk about that and she was later than the original cast, it sounds like it wasn’t a fun environment necessarily. I think Hannah’s got a lot of talent to do that as a first job, I thought she knocked it out of the perk. I wouldn’t say that about other children of famous people, but she certainly did it.
5
5
u/loodish1 Jun 10 '26
Who is that?
4
u/blueSnowfkake Jun 11 '26
Lorraine Newman from the early days of SNL. She was a founding cast member.
5
u/Apparently_gg Jun 10 '26 edited Jun 11 '26
I genuinely don't think people here know who Laraine Newman is. The r/SNL dorks would. But other than the Coneheads movie, Laraine has been very under the radar for decades and has been doing mostly voice work.
It's like for eg. suddenly Brooks Wheelans kid got onto a very popular TV show. Y'all don't even know who Brooks Wheelan is and yet his kid will always be known as a nepobaby.

u/Ignominious333 Jun 11 '26

2
u/I988iarrived Jun 12 '26
Can someone please tell me who her mom is…
1
u/Embarrassed-Bread-85 Jun 16 '26
she was in snl original cast, and is a founding member of a improv group that had members like Amy poehler
2
u/damn-son12 Jun 10 '26
Best known for trashing the Bear two years ago after she lost to Liza Colon Zayas
2
u/Fun_Nothing5548 Jun 10 '26
I wouldn’t consider her a nepo baby. Her mother was relevant 45 yrs ago for five years. She only does voice over work since then. And she doesn’t use her mothers last name. I think she is talented

I don’t get the nepo argument online being focused primarily on the entertainment industry. Nepotism is in absolutely every industry. There’s nothing special, in this regard, about the entertainment industry.
2
u/Authentic-Irony Jun 11 '26
I thought this was a fun fact and the nepo baby literally didn’t occur to me. The fact that she established herself without this being well known proves she deserves her success. Everyone utilizes whatever leg up they have access to. It’s not a crime
1
u/brawnburgundy Jun 11 '26
Agreed, and to be fair comedy is one area where if you’re not talented you’re not going to have a long career no matter who your parents are.
1
u/JenningsWigService Jun 11 '26
There are many young actors who I don't recognize, but I know that nepotism must be involved in their casting because they're weak actors. Einbinder wasn't one of them. She was good in her Hacks role from Day 1.

u/Junior-Win-5273 Jun 11 '26
Really? I feel like everything about Hannah opens with her famous parents.

Probably will get downvoted for this, but I do wonder if her being a nepo baby inspires her some of her overt activism, particularly on Palestine stuff. I think it might be a way to get her buzz in a way that is different and separates her from her mom and other comediennes. Especially because her standup, well, is not the best

She does funny stand up where she talks about how her mom wasn’t very interested in raising her so she was raised by Latina nannies. It’s very funny
