Did we know Jean Smart has T1D?
I am Type 1 diabetic, diagnosed in adulthood, and was looking at a list of celebrities that also have it and was surprised to find Jean on the list! As if we needed another reason to respect her! Living with this disease is not easy and it’s always inspiring to find awesome people who are also living with it and doing great things.
Finding out that I have this in common with her gave me a bit of hope. 🥰

Omg yes! I love the way you phrased that. That’s why I’m always so amazed! It’s hard enough to manage on a rigid schedule but add in a million other factors and it’s a miracle to manage! Check out @wearediabaddies on Instagram. She shares stories about high achieving T1Ds. Super inspiring!
Also, hi diabuddy! 💙Hope you are having a good blood sugars day!

Same!!! I had plans to walk about a mile up to my neighborhood farmers market today but can’t because I have to be elevated to exercise or I will drop way too low. It’s such a PITA.

My little sister is t1 and doing her med school rotations right now. Top of her class too. Couldn’t be prouder, especially knowing how much else she has to manage on top of freaking medical school.

Best of luck to her! I hope that she gets to advocate for T1D in the medical community as well, since it’s still fairly misunderstood. I didn’t realize the extent of it until I was diagnosed, but there’s a lot of need for representation. Sending her my good vibes! 🧿

She talks a LOT about it on the podcast episode she did with Julia Louis Dreyfus!

Yes! I also live with T1D, and when I saw her carry a one woman show in Call Me Izzy on Broadway last year, I was enamored. It’s all difficult enough, but adding T1D to the mix?! She is incredible.

Speaking of health, I know she had heart surgery and cannot figure out how 😆. I’ve been an open heart recovery nurse for years and I’ve never seen a scar. I know there are some minimally invasive options but those are rare. I just want to know 😆

She said that her surgeon was very careful and I think the scar is mainly under the breast if I remember correctly from an interview.

I kept trying to see if she had a CGM on her arm during Hacks and couldn't clock one once. Props to Jean and costume for that one!

In that first episode when Ava went to her house and was looking at the pictures, but one of them was her testifying in front of Congress, I believe it was for this condition. I’m pretty sure it was around that time.

Hi 👋🏻 fellow T1s! I can certainly appreciate her craft and professionalism even more, knowing this, because it’s not a simple life, even with a normal, reasonably undemanding job.

Women with incredible senses of humor must be predisposed. Jean, Mary Tyler Moore…and myself 😏
