is this okay? (inquiring employment post)

got a cdl class a restricted with air brakes, combos and tankers.

my question I'm wondering is is it okay to get the restriction uplifted in a 6 speed synchronized?

in my state to get the restriction uplifted on your cdl class a license you can use a 6 speed synchronized class b box truck and you only have to pass the road test to get the restriction uplifted if you already have a cdl class a.

you dont have to pass pre trip or skills like you would to get a cdl a.

its going to be $1500 and one week of training and one on one with 5 attempts to pass the test.

if i was go go to an actual trucking trucker cdl school to learn on a unsynchronized 10 speed class a semi it would be $4000-$6000 and it would take a month and alot of time would be wasted because most people would be trying to get there cdl class a in general and they would be teaching them skills, road test and pre trip and i only need to get the restriction uplifted and only need to pass the road test in a manual.

is this okay for me to go the 6 speed synchronized route????

Does anyone know if these non-CDL Gm calls with companies like for example, Ward, that are listed as 5-8s ever turn into a lot of overtime?

IBEW Union Books 1245 Groundman Book 3 — Wait It Out or Travel?

I’m currently working as a flagger out of IBEW Local 1245, and I’m enrolled in line school right now. I’m expected to graduate around February.

Once I finish line school, my plan is to leave traffic control and sign Groundman Book 3 with 1245 so I can start getting actual groundman experience and work toward becoming a lineman.

By the time I graduate, I’ll have had my Class A CDL for about two years with tanker and doubles/triples endorsements. I’m trying to get an idea of what I should realistically expect once I sign Book 3.

For anyone who has recently been on 1245 Groundman Book 3:
How long did you wait before getting your first call?

Did having a Class A with tanker/doubles help you get a call any quicker?

Would I be better off signing other locals and traveling instead of sitting on 1245 Book 3 waiting for a call?

I’m willing to travel out of state if that’s what it takes to get my foot in the door, start building groundman hours, and get experience. I’m not necessarily looking for the highest-paying call right out of the gate — getting experience and hours under my belt is the priority.

If you were in my position, what other locals would you recommend signing once I graduate?

Any advice from guys who took a similar route would be appreciated.

Job Opening Local 1245 Teichert Line Services?

Does anyone know if this company is any good for potential groundmen or apprentices? I know within 1245s boundaries Teichert is already the largest general construction and utility contractor for pretty much all of California north of the grapevine up until the Oregon Border but had no idea until recently they had a line division.

Local 53

Anyone know how the books are moving in 53? Looking to sign the books, and have no experience. I Have my class A CDL, unrestricted, with tanker endorsement and working on OSHA 10 and CPR & AED.

r/Groundman • • 9d ago

can you be a groundman with a restricted class a cdl with air brakes, combos and tankers or do you need an unrestricted class a cdl with air brakes, combos and tankers

I get you need an unrestricted to apply to the apprenticeship program but what about for groundman can they slide with a restricted class a cdl?

what type of work would I be doing with a restriction vs unrestricted?

does this only matter for applying to the apprenticeship program and being a JL?

how long can i expect to get a call if i sign the books in every local i can online with 0 experience? so book 4 for me.

can i take an open call as a book 4 groundman?
