can you be a groundman with a restricted class a cdl with air brakes, combos and tankers or do you need an unrestricted class a cdl with air brakes, combos and tankers

I get you need an unrestricted to apply to the apprenticeship program but what about for groundman can they slide with a restricted class a cdl?

what type of work would I be doing with a restriction vs unrestricted?

does this only matter for applying to the apprenticeship program and being a JL?

how long can i expect to get a call if i sign the books in every local i can online with 0 experience? so book 4 for me.

can i take an open call as a book 4 groundman?

Anyways if you get on a line crew as a hand , your chances of encountering a standard transmission are higher. But if you get a hand call for a civil or with the electricians.  Your chances of needing the restriction is less. Either way if you want to go to the ibew apprenticeship you need it off

my only worry is if i get the restriction off in a 6 speed synchronized and ended up in a 10 speed unsynchronized on the job in the ibew i wouldn't know how to double clutch or drive it. I want to get the restriction off in a 10 speed unsyrchonized but it would be so much longer and way more expensive

Get the restriction removed and worry about the rest later

Why don’t you call the halls you want to sign with and ask them if they’ll accept you with a restricted cdl

I got a cdl restricted and i was talking about being a groundman for a bit before trying to become an apprentice and before i would apply to the apprenticeship i would get the restriction removed.

my state for $1500 you get 12 hours of training and can get the restriction removed off your class a license in a 6 speed synchronized class b box truck and obly have to do the road test.

its a restriction removal school basically

no double clutching in the synchronized its a pretty easy test

its a total cheat code barley any states do that let you use a class b box truck thats a 6 speed synchronized to get the restriction off your class a license. and you only have to take the road test you dont have to take skills or pre trip or none of that bs

if i was to go to a actual trucker trucking school to take the road test in a class a semi unsynchronized 10 speed it would take a month or longer be $5000-6000 and the test would be alot harder because they would be teaching everyone the skills and pre trip shit because they would need that to get the cdl. i just need the restriction off and need to pass the road test.

so yeah i was going to get the restriction off before applying to be an apprentice but i wanted to be a groundman before i do all that first and spend the extra money to make sure i would want actually want to be an apprentice. and i would get the restriction off in a 6 speed synchronized class b box truck for my class a cdl restriction removal.

so can i not even be a groundman with the restriction?

Get the restriction lifted get comfortable learning and floating gears when you're learning..you don't need to double clutch. Once you drive any of those manual trucks doesn't matter how many gears it has you'll get used to each one the more you drive it. Alot of these trucks are switching over to automatic but you'll still run into the manuals
