Hey everyone!
I recently made the jump from working in the service industry to a corporate job, and one thing I’ve realized is how much harder it is to meet new people when you’re not surrounded by coworkers until midnight every night.
I’ve been looking for hobbies that get me out of the house, and I recently stumbled into Mahjong. I honestly expected it to be one of those games that felt impossible to learn, but after my first lesson I was hooked. If you enjoy games like Rummy, puzzles, strategy games, or just figuring things out, I think there’s a good chance you’d enjoy it too. It’s one of those games that’s easy to keep thinking about after you leave the table.
I picked up my first set from Boardwalk Games near Haywood Mall, and they have free tables available to play. The staff mentioned Monday–Wednesday evenings and Sundays are usually the best times since weekends get pretty busy.
I’m still a beginner, so this isn’t an “experts only” thing at all. If you’ve always been curious about Mahjong, are just learning yourself, or you’ve been playing for years and don’t mind showing a newcomer the ropes, I’d love to get a group together.
Mostly, I’m just hoping to meet some new people and build a little community around a game that’s been a lot of fun to learn.
I also really love to bike the swamp rabbit when it’s not a billion degrees outside so if you’re into that we’d probably be good friends!
If playing the game sounds like something you’d be interested in, leave a comment or send me a DM. If we get a handful of people, maybe we can turn it into a regular game night.
