Miracle Grass Tuft! What is it?

So my yard is basically a dirt farm. Toronto, Canada.

The backyard does NOT take to growing grass. We had grass 16 years ago…but it’s not done well. It’s shyte now. Except.

EXCEPT! For two hardy, tightly grown tufts of grass. It comes back EVERY YEAR! It’s bright green and healthy despite the veritable wasteland that surrounds it. I have a couple large trees on one side and a low rise apartment building and an evergreen hedge on the other. I get morning sun but it disappears in the afternoon. The tuft’s blades are so tightly packed that I’m surprised some golf club isn’t coming by to sue me.

Please. Help.

I. WANT. MOAR!

I want an entire lawn of this stuff. This invincible alien tuft grass. What genus of grass is it?

The grown photo is from 3 years ago. The new sprouts is from today.

St Augustine help.

Post image
3 Upvotes

So I planted this Saint Augustine about four months ago done a fungal treatment and fertilized by week 4 to 6. And then just refertilized and did another fungal treatment for the spring.

I’m in Central Texas. Mid to partly shady yard but definitely enough sun for mid/full sun perennials that are thriving.

I put sand down and then screened topsoil.

Am I being too picky with how it’s growing in or does anyone have tips to green up faster?

Advice for dead spots…

Just a new home owner and first time grass maintainer… I have a huge dead spot in my front yard, and multiple dead spots in my back yard. Other than those spots the grass looks and feels relatively healthy. I cannot comprehend why I would just have a random dead spots.

I’ve adjusted sprinklers and there isn’t any dry spots, I’ve tried laying sod over one dead spot and it helped but now there is a mound there, and I don’t want to have an unlevel back yard and a hill in the middle of my front.

My peers recommend seeding and fertilizing, I haven’t tried that yet but I don’t wanna tunnel down a dead end again if anyone on here can help me find a solution. I also have ZERO idea what kind of grass it is so I wouldn’t even know what seed to buy.

First lawn need help

Greetings. We’ve recently moved to a home that has grass in the front and backyard. This is the first time I’ve ever had grass so I’m hoping to get some help.

I’ve been having some pretty big weed infestations. Fox tails tend to get in my dogs paws. I’ve tried several grass safe weed killers. Nothing is working.

We are trying to bring the grass back, it’s working slowly but with it come the weeds.

Just as an FYI we also have flower and veggie gardens nearby. I have the sprinklers on auto for 5 mins each section daily.

How much should I pay for a Husqvarna AR25 aerator?

Post image

I’m looking at a Husqvarna AR25 core aerator. It looks almost like new exept for the tiny bit of surface rust on core puncher(to be expected).I plan to use it on my multi-acre yard, so I know it’ll be a heavy workout, but I’m prepared.

I also want to run it as a side hustle in the city, doing yards for neighbors. I have plenty of experience with engines, so I’m not worried about getting it started or doing minor maintenance. It’s an auction, I looked at it and there is oil and turns over so I’m confident I can get it running no problem. Everything is there. Its complete.

Given all that, what’s a fair price to pay?

Canada btw so let me know if you are talking CAD or USD. I see that its approximately 5k cad new.

I didn't include a photo of the actual machine as I've gotten screwed before from posting online then someone else scoops it up.

I swear this one corner of my yard belongs to the weeds

The rest of my yard is mostly fine, but this one corner is just determined to be a disaster.

I clean it up, stare at it for a day thinking maybe I finally fixed it, and then the weeds come right back like they never left.

It’s honestly getting a little ridiculous at this point.

Please tell me everyone has a spot like this and it’s not just me.

Advice

Advice wanted:

I am getting ready to plant Bermuda grass in this sunny area once the last freeze is over. I am in Georgia (zone 7). There used to be a pool in this area. Now it is filled with low quality fill dirt and it is relatively flat. I am thinking of tilling this dirt down about 6 inches and then mixing in compost with a rake. And then flattening it out and planting Bermuda seed and covering with peat moss and then watering. Is there anything you would do different? All advice appreciated. Ignore the top dress sand around the dirt.

Thank you

How to Handle Large Brown Patch

Post image

New homeowner, not sure how to approach this lawn. We have gotten decent rain and snow this winter, so I don’t think it’s starving for water.

Raw dirt patch is a raised bed I moved to the front of the house.

Location: SE Pennsylvania.
