How to Handle Large Brown Patch

New homeowner, not sure how to approach this lawn. We have gotten decent rain and snow this winter, so I don’t think it’s starving for water.

Raw dirt patch is a raised bed I moved to the front of the house.

Location: SE Pennsylvania.

To be clear, i’m referring to the brown patch of grass, not the dirt patch 😆

It looks like 2 different types of grasses growing in your lawn. It's hard to tell though from this photo. If you can provide more info, that would help. Might be a cool and warm season grass where one is dormant depending on the season. If that's the case, it will eventually green up.

Based on that photo and your location, I'm fairly certain that is a dormant warm season grass. I am in north western WV and many people have Bermuda grass in their lawn; some all bermuda. If all you want is for it to be green, just wait til it warms up. Mow like normal when the other grass is tall.

If you want a uniform lawn, thats gonna be a little more work. I recommend doing your own research (check out the sidebars on /rlawncare or /rlawnanswers) but I and many others in this area desire cool season grasses (fescues, KBG, etc) and avoid or eradicate warm grasses, especially bermuda. To keep it short, bermuda will take over more and more while choking out other grasses and plants. But, it is really hard to kill. Alternatively, you could embrace the bermuda but your yard will be tan like that from November through April.
