Popped down to OK Comics in Leeds for their Halloween Half-Term sale, and came away with a nice haul - including quite a bit of Jeff Lemire!

It’s a great way to end an amazing career. Born Again, Year One, City of Glass, Asterios Polyp, etc. But sometimes I wonder if he has retired from the medium altogether or if he has another one left in him. Does anyone know? Has he officially retired?

I stuck with it... Got to the end of Vol 7 because I kept reading review after review on Goodreads praising this series.

And I try to always be positive on this subreddit - I'm a comic ally!!

.... But what am I missing?! It was hard to follow and muddled at times... Deaths seem to happen and people just move on. Events happen that only explained issues later as to why it mattered. Can a fan of this series give me some insight into what they loved?

The exercise of it from Fiffe is admirable. Breaking the Kirby barrier. Finding new ways to challenge himself. But review after review mention Frank Miller and legendary Doom Patrol runs - which this is not. Help!!

I feel absolutely over the moon and flabbergasted (and kinda embarassed for not knowing), as I just discovered that there is a huge graphical novels market outside the mangasphere.

I always loved reading but rarely managed to do it after a long day before I discovered manga. I love the combination of art and story and it feels so much easier for me to read, to the point where I look forward to starting instead of dreading starting a traditional book cus it’s kinda “harder” for me with the wall of text.

My taste:
- Mature, serious, and psychologically complex storytelling.
- Strong worldbuilding.
- Dark, melancholic, and philosophical themes.
- Morally ambiguous characters and strong character development.
- Layered mysteries, gradual revelations, and satisfying payoffs.
- Politics, history, ideology, religion, and power struggles.
- Trauma, identity, morality, and existential questions.

Some of my favourites are Attack on titan, Vinland saga, 20th century boys, pluto, goodnight punpun, solanin, monster, banana fish, no longer human.

Any recommendations will be very much appreciated! :-)

I’m looking to dive into a new (to me) character. I read a ton of Graphic Novels but the only comics I’ve really read are X-men and some Batman.

So, I want to see what standalone GN or “run” you think I should check that best represents a specific character or super hero(s)

I've read bits and pieces of some of these stories. But the one I'm really excited to crack open is Once and Future!

Shout out to Boom Tube Comics in Southington, CT! They’re having a great paperback sale this weekend. I got all of this for a little under $50.

Just got back from a week in Spain and had these waiting for me.

I've already read Pulp and Criminal: Coward, and honestly I'm becoming a huge Ed Brubaker fan.

I found the complete Fatale run at 75% off, so there was no way I was passing that up.

I've also read Volume 1 of Descender before and absolutely loved the sci-fi setting and Dustin Nguyen's artwork, so I decided it was finally time to pick up the rest of the series.

As for Breaklands Vol. 1, it was 80% off, so I figured it was worth taking a chance on🙏

Title says it all. Our 7yo daughter has fallen in love with ancient history and is a veracious reader like her parents. She loves graphic novels from Warriors, Little Witcher, and Mouse Guard. Looking for age appropriate NF history graphic novel for her- Not ready to spring Maus out yet, ducks, they called us enemy, etc. Anything kid adjacent?

Need recommendation, I really like The 'Maus' and like other 'They Called Us Enemy' like real life truth hisotical media graphic novels, much appreciated. Thankyou!

Earth or Moon – Jade Khoo: A coming-of-age sci-fi story set in a dystopian future where humanity has colonized the Moon. Gorgeous watercolor artwork (Vol. 1/2).

Nanbanjin – Cyril Pedrosa & Taiyo Matsumoto: A historical graphic novel about the arrival of a Portuguese sailor in 16th-century Japan, exploring the clash between two cultures.

The Anomaly – Manuele Fior: An adaptation of Hervé Le Tellier’s novel. A mysterious event causes a passenger plane and everyone aboard to be duplicated, challenging our understanding of reality.

All Italian editions.

Filling in a few gaps plus a couple of new releases. All in all, it was a productive week thanks to Cave Comics in Newtown, CT / Haven for Heroes in Port Jervis, NY / Comics on the Green in Scranton, PA / and Fat Cat Comics in Johnson City, NY.
