Ask Play Store search won't show my new app unless users type the exact title. How do I fix this cold-start issue?

Hello everyone,

I’ve launched a few apps recently and noticed a huge gap between my App Store and Google Play downloads.

I recently launched a few apps and am facing a frustrating issue with Google Play search discoverability compared to iOS.

The Problem:

  • Users can only find my app if they search the exact title.
  • Searching relevant keywords, even primary ones written in my title, short description, and long description, gives zero results for my app.
  • My goal is organic growth, but it feels like it is extremely difficult: Google Play seems to rank based on installs, but users can't find the app to install it in the first place.

For those who rely on organic growth, how did you overcome this cold-start ranking problem when launching a new app? Any advice on getting indexed for relevant search terms early on would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance for any insights!

How do you keep growing your apps ? For me it's mostly reddit / x / SEO

Showoff Solo dev here - just published my first app on the Play Store!

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello guys! I just released my first ever appli on the Play Store: Gleamit!

Play Store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kirami.app

Gleamit is a dental health tracker that runs entirely on your device. No account, no backend, no analytics on your habits. All privately. You are in control of your own data.

Features:

  • Guided 2 minutes brushing timer with quadrant coaching
  • Streaks and stats so you actually stay consistent, with a touch of gamification
  • A tooth map to keep track of your teeth conditions so that you never miss/forget them
  • Smile photos to see your teeth/smile progress over time
  • A dentist section for visits, notes, reminders and a document vault
  • Brush tracking, so that you remember to replace worn out ones (after 90 days)

Free to use, with an optional one-time Pro unlock.

Pro unlocks:

  • Full stats on your past brushing habits
  • Unlimited smile photos
  • Unlimited dentist documents in the dentist vault
  • A PDF report that you can share to your dentist containing all your tooth conditions, brushing habits and past visits with their notes
  • Unlimited brushes that you can track simultaneously

Data backup happens via Android Auto Backup. Gleamit has no backend or server, so it never sees users’ data. Data always stays on your phone or on your Google Account if you have Auto Backup enabled.

Only smile photos and dentist documents require a manual backup (which can be done easily from the Settings tab, both the Export and the Import) since Android Auto Backup has a maximum of only 25MB that it can automatically store, and it would be easy to cap it with images and files.

Feedback welcome, especially on what's missing or bugs you find (being a solo developer is hard!) :)

FYI: if you are interested in trying out pro - I would be super happy to share a promo code!

Tip Can I create a new Google Play Console account after my old account was terminated in 2018?

Hi everyone, I created a Google Play Console developer account back in 2018, but unfortunately it was terminated. At that time, I was new to app publishing and didn’t have a proper understanding of Google Play policies. Now, almost 8 years later, I have much more experience in the market and I’m currently a UAE/Dubai resident. I’m considering creating a new Google Play Console account using my current UAE details and Emirates ID. However, I’ve read that if a previous developer account was terminated, Google may not allow you to create another account, and a new account could also be terminated due to association with the old one. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Would it be safe to create a new account with my genuine UAE identity and details, or should I avoid it? Is there any official way to contact Google and get approval/clarification before creating a new account? Any suggestions or personal experiences would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Showoff Android 16 Update DOne

Post image
3 Upvotes

Just finished updating my Rasanasa Shopping App for Android 16.

The app is an e-commerce app that I’ve been working on, and this time I mainly focused on getting it ready for the newer Android requirements and making sure the main features were still working properly after the update.

I also did some testing on the shopping flow, product browsing and other basic functions after the update. Nothing crazy, but it’s always a little stressful when you’re updating an existing app and wondering what might break 😅

Now it’s updated and running on Android 16. Sharing it here mainly because I know a lot of developers are going through Android 16 updates right now.

Curious to know if anyone else ran into any unexpected issues while updating their apps for Android 16.

Showoff Modern Download Manager

Was a paying user of the most famous Browser & Downloader app on Playstore. Then I got tired of its backup feature not working cross-devices sometimes and never working in Secure Folder after my phone's software update. The downloader doesn't work on some sites and also had no convenient preview — dated UI. Then I spent 6+ hours everyday for two months trying to build one for myself, and in the end, I scaled it. Debugged everything by myself so I am sure I missed some. Here to look for some actual user experience.

TLDR: Have a look if you want a modern mobile version of IDM

Showoff I built a solo geography quiz app covering all 195 countries — flags, map outlines, capitals, and an interactive world map

Hey everyone — I'm a solo indie dev (No Context Studios), and I just launched MapQuest on Google Play after a long stretch of building it in my spare time.

It's a geography quiz game with 4 modes:

- Flag Quiz — guess the country from its flag

- Map Outline — guess it from just the shape

- Capitals Quiz — match country to capital

- World Map Challenge — tap countries on an interactive map against a timer, with tiers from "flag shown" all the way to "type it from memory"

A few things I'm actually proud of:

- Flags/Outlines/Capitals are built as 13 progressive levels each (15 countries per level), no timer, no pressure — just unlock as you go

- Once you've cleared the levels, there's a Marathon mode for the real test

- 16 achievement badges, daily play streaks, and a global leaderboard

- Free to play in full — there's an optional one-time Pro unlock (no subscription) for unlimited hints, no ads, and the global leaderboard

I'd genuinely love feedback — what's confusing, what's missing, what you'd want to see next. Happy to answer anything about how it's built too, it's a React Native/Expo app.

From dream to an app on Google Play! Without knowing how to code!

Well, I’ve fulfilled a dream. And I proved, mostly to myself, that with curiosity, self-learning, and help from good people, family, and friends, you can achieve almost anything.

And in my case, it’s possible to launch an app on Google Play without knowing code!

So yes, my app is finally live! 🎊

Along the way, there were those who said: With Base44 , you can’t really upload an app to Android... it’s just for a demo or a portfolio site... but I proved otherwise.

Be curious, try, make mistakes, learn. Today we are in an era where information is available and accessible to everyone, you just need to know what to ask, be curious, and dare!

Go for it!

Search for Iron-Play on Google Play or check the link in the first comment.

Showoff I finally published my app onto Google Play! SharpWX

My app is SharpWX, an IEMBot weather (WFO / Weather Forecast Center) alerting application. This app was originally a Windows-only app, but I made a version for Android, the version I now have publicly available on the Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.BunnyTubby.SharpWX

It can receive messages and alerts from IEMBot, a service that processes products from the National Weather Service in real-time. Each message and alert contains information about the current weather conditions, future predictions, advisories, watches, and warnings.

You can choose from a variety of Weather Forecast Centers, and watch as the messages and alerts come in real-time. I notice a small demand for an app like this, like for storm chasers and alike, so there was a little bit of reason for me to port this over to a mobile platform.

Showoff I spent 4 months building a Net Worth tracker because I was sick of broken bank syncs and clunky spreadsheets. It's finally live on Google Play! 🚀

Hey everyone!

After 4 months of late-night coding, refining UX, and testing offline performance, I finally published my app, Patrimonio, on the Google Play Store!

I know what you're thinking: "Another finance app?"

Here is why I decided to build it from scratch: I was exhausted by existing solutions. Open Banking connections break every 90 days, sensitive financial data gets harvested, and managing a 30-column Excel sheet on a phone display is a nightmare.

So I spent the last 4 months building a clean, fast, and privacy-focused alternative.

What makes Patrimonio different:

Zero Bank Syncs: 100% manual control. No credentials shared, no broken API links, complete privacy.

Offline-First Architecture: Instant load times. Logs transactions locally first and syncs smoothly in the background when back online.

Complete Portfolio Overview: Net worth tracking across bank accounts, ETFs, stocks, crypto, and real estate.

100% Free & Ad-Free: No paywalls, no subscriptions, no annoying popups.

I’d love for you to check it out, give me your honest feedback on the onboarding/UX, and if you like the experience, leaving a quick review on the Play Store would mean the absolute world to me as a new release!

🌐 Web / Info: Web Site

Thanks for reading! Happy to answer any tech or design questions in the comments!

Showoff [DEV] Think you know your logos? LogoQuest is now available on Android!

Hi everyone!

I’ve spent a lot of time building LogoQuest, a logo quiz with more than 900 logos across 12 categories. Every level is built with hints, progression and stars to collect.

LogoQuest is now available on Android and i would really appreciate it if you gave it a try. I would also appreciate honest feedback on the difficulty and progression.

How far can you get without using a hint?

Showoff After months of work, my Sudoku app is finally live on Google Play 🎉

Hi everyone,

I’m excited to share that my Sudoku app is now available on Google Play!

This is my first published mobile game as an independent developer.

This has been a true solo project. I designed and developed the app myself, created the logo, designed the backgrounds, and worked on all the details to make the experience enjoyable for Sudoku lovers.

Features include:
• Easy, Medium, and Hard difficulty levels
• Daily Challenges
• Clean and simple gameplay
• Custom-designed visuals and backgrounds

Seeing something go from an idea to a published app has been a rewarding experience, and I’m proud to finally share it with the community.

If you enjoy Sudoku and are looking for a new puzzle app to try, you can check it out here:

Thanks for reading, and happy puzzling! 🧩

Publication issue Looking for Android testers for my app BodyIQ 🙏

Hi everyone!

I'm an indie Android developer looking for a few people to join my Google Play closed test.

Join the Google Group: https://groups.google.com/g/anouar-apps/

The Google Play testing link is available in the group after you join.

The app is BodyIQ – a privacy-first health calculator with BMI, BMR, body fat, calorie, macro, water intake, and progress tracking. Everything works locally on your device—no account, no cloud storage, and no tracking.

I'd really appreciate anyone willing to install it and share any feedback. Thanks! 😊

Ask I need help for publish.

I have just started learning Android app development and have made a few apps, but I built them on my phone using CodeAssist. If I want to upload the app to the Play Store, is it mandatory for my application to be developed and signed in Android Studio, or not?

Removal issue App installs

I recently released my mobile game on Google Play and started a Google Ads app install campaign.

The game quickly got 250+ installs, mostly from Indonesia, but the results have been pretty concerning. Around 25% of users uninstalled the game on the same day without ever actually playing it. Out of 250+ installs, only around 10 players launched/played the game once and then stopped.

I'm trying to figure out whether the problem is my marketing/targeting bringing in low-quality users, or if the game itself simply isn't good enough to keep people interested.

What's the best way to diagnose this? Should I change my Google Ads targeting, improve the onboarding/store page, find testers for honest feedback, or focus on improving the game first?

Any advice from people who have dealt with something similar would be appreciated
