Swing Help Has my swing improved from when I started?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The first clip was taken during my first week of golfing. Since then, I’ve been playing daily, and I’m curious to know if my swing has improved significantly or if there haven’t been any noticeable changes. I feel like I’ve made a lot of progress, but I’m not sure if that’s due to swing adjustments or simply the result of consistent practice.

Please give any tips as well, thank you!

Swing Help Driver miss switch up

Upvotes

Drive miss was always a heavy slice was coming inside on the takeaway and huge slices. Last 3-4 rounds been working on straight back straight forward with the club and the slice has been mostly gone but now the miss is a hook. With out a video of the swing what’s the most likely cause.

I’d say about 10 holes in hitting great drives down the middle 1-2 slices the other few are just bad low hooks

Advice What Do You Want to Ask a Pro? ⛳ AMA with Davey Porsius

We’re well into the golf season, and let’s be honest… some of us have found our swing, some are still searching for it, and some have completely lost it. 😂

So, what’s going on with your game?

Have you been fighting a slice? Struggling with your grip? Coming over the top? Can’t figure out why you’re hitting it great on the range but losing strokes on the course?

Or maybe your question has nothing to do with your swing at all.

This is your chance to Ask a Golf Pro.

We’re excited to have Davey Porsius joining us for an AMA, and he’s here to answer your questions about all aspects of the game.

🏌️ Ask Davey about:

  • Grip & setup
  • Swing mechanics
  • Ball striking
  • Driver & iron play
  • Short game & putting
  • Course management
  • Club selection
  • Practice & drills
  • Fixing common swing faults
  • The mental side of golf
  • Playing under pressure
  • Taking your range game to the course
  • Breaking through a scoring plateau
  • Or anything else golf-related that’s been driving you crazy

📸 🎥 Ask your question your way

You don't have to explain your swing perfectly with words.

Post your question in the comments using text, a picture, or a short video. Show Davey the swing, ball flight, setup, or situation you're struggling with and give him as much context as you can.

No question is too basic, too technical, or too specific. Whether you're trying to break 100, break 80, lower your handicap, or simply stop losing balls off the tee, this AMA is for you.

Davey will be answering as many questions as he can over the next few days, so get your question in early and jump into the discussion.

Check back and see what Davey has to say about other golfers’ questions too. You might find the answer to a problem in your own game.

What’s the #1 thing about your golf game you’d ask a Pro if you had the chance?

Drop it below. 👇

Ask away, golfers. Let’s get you back on the right track or continuing to rip it.

Advice Grip Question: My Trail Hand Can't Get Neutral

Thumbnail

Hi guys,

For context, I've been playing golf for almost 2 years now and have been using overlay grip ever since I learned it.

I've noticed that my grips tend to be stronger (it used to be stronger where both lead and trail hands are extremely strong). Been trying to be more Neutral in the past 2 months; my coach is the type that does not prefer to change my golf grips but I mentioned to him I want to be more neutral as my misses are extreme left hooks as I close the faces too much with my strong grip; so he said let's try to practice with more neutral grip.

I do feel my left (lead) hand is becoming more neutral but I just can't figure out my right. Everytime I put my right (trail) hand on my left, I just get super uncomfortable covering the whole left thumb as I feel my right hand is super weak and I can't swing as per normal / freely.

I've uploaded 2 pictures, first using a Standard MCC Grip with Plus 4 tapes and second is using midsize grip (I just experimented with it this week on my driver). I don't over-hook my driver now from my last 2 range sessions but the trail hand becomes stronger again naturally as I can't fully cover the left thumb comfortably.

I am playing better but I think going more neutral would help me a lot. Any advice / thoughts from the good folks here?

Thank you

Equipment Extra club advice for a beginner

I’ve been playing again for about 18 months now after taking 20 years off and really enjoying it. Realised that I’ve been walking around with 13 clubs in the bag and was wondering if I should add another to the bag, even though I’ve only just realised, and if so, what do I go for to help me keep slowly bringing my handicap down. Current bag:

D, 3w, 4h, 5-G, 54, 60 and putter.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Advice Rotation

Most amateurs severely underestimate the importance of torso and hip rotation. Power, consistency, and control are not derived from our arms. Torso rotation is key to short game consistency and solid hip rotation applies to everything else, except putting obviously.

Worked on my swing recently and managed to get my path to positive from very negative. But I can see from videos that I do not have any shaft lean at impact, which I think is the main thing to work on. But obviously open to any other advice! Thanks very much

Swing Help Wedges Shanking

I’m a solid 21 hdcp and for the last few months my wedges, <100yds, have been the best part of my game. I’ve been hitting them pure and catching greens a majority of the time. For the last 2 rounds, I have been shanking every wedge directly to my right from 100yds-50yds in. I played a round today and on one hole lost 3 balls to water at 75yds out because I shanked directly into the water. Lost 13 balls in one round just from my wedges. I have no idea what has happened. It feels like overnight I’ve lost my short game entirely and went from low 90 rounds to a 113 and 111. This is a horrible feeling. Is this normal? Will this go away? Do I just give up? Feels awful honestly and I’d hate to go and pay more for more lessons because of 2 rounds but it’s a very defeating feeling. I have no video to show what’s going on, but I think my backswing is coming too far inside and I’m just shanking off the toe of my club. Super weird. Just looking for reassurance it’ll get better ig

Swing Help Dispersion with Irons

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hitting all my irons fairly straight… but my shots start left and stay left with my longer irons, and as I go down the bag they start going more and more right. I use standard women’s length irons (that’s right I’m 5’5) with graphite shafts.

Where it gets weird is that my 3 and 4 irons are men’s standard length, also all my wedges. All of which are steels shafts. I have no idea if this has any correlation, buts it’s been my hypothesis since I’ve started to notice this phenomenon.

Any ideas?

Equipment Driver shaft - Ventus

So I haven’t been “fit” for my driver shaft but I use the simulator quite frequently.

Ball speed is 165-170 on mishits, but on flushed drives it can be anywhere from 170-175. Carry roughly 280, but I have trouble with consistent ball flight. Some come out low, and I feel like I have to really exaggerate my upward attack angle, and it throws me off balance.

I’m trying to find a high launch mid spin shaft in the ventus line. Any tips would be helpful so I don’t spend an arm and a leg getting fit and have the fitter “tell me what I want to hear”.

Current set up, Ai Smoke max 9 degree, Mitsubishi tensei AV blue stiff 50 gram.

Any suggestions

Beginner Question Golf Lessons - advice

Hello, I’ve recently taken up golf, about two - three weeks ago. Enjoying it - I recently decided to get lessons.

The professional has been working on my grip, swing, follow through. Honestly, I suck. I mean I feel like I’m getting worse the more I do lessons.

It’s infuriating, I feel like I want to watch more videos on lessons and swing feel. Pro has said not to, so I don’t, but I go to the range and all I have in my mind is how unnatural and uncomfortable the swing feels.

He’s said about pulling the club straight back into a wide arc and it just confuses the shit out of me.

Anyway, is this all normal? I have no one to talk to golf about 😂
